-Build 1 Farming Equipment (Hydroponics) in Unity (500 Materials)

-Send 100 people with 50 Laser Weapons and 50 1-H Guns on a salvage expedition into the Olympia-Granby and Arthurtown areas southwest of Columbia proper. Priority targets for salvage are the Vulcan Materials Company, Consolidated Cargo Carriers, the Jim Hamilton-LB Owens Airport, and the Intertape Polymer Group. If salvage efforts are completed before winter and casualties remain low, the expedition is to begin securing and salvaging the ruins of the University of South Carolina, northwest of Unity. During the expedition, 25 people are to fan out ahead and to the flanks of the main group, providing reconnaissance for the main group. If possible, the expedition is to be equipped with portable radios.

-Send 50 people with 25 2-H Guns and 25 Laser Weapons on an expedition south to Lone Star, SC, following primarily along Highway 48. The focus of this expedition is to survey the area for lands suitable for farming and water production. The expedition is to avoid hostile forces by any means necessary. Salvaging is approved in areas empty of hostile forces.

-Both expeditions are to also act as emissaries for the Universal Brotherhood to any friendly settlements they encounter. If allowed to do so, the expeditions are authorized to spend 3-5 days encamped nearby the settlements, providing medical and technical assistance where needed, as well as information about the Brotherhood and its mission. Any who wish to join the Brotherhood may do so when the expeditions return to their assigned tasks.

Challenge
Spoiler :
Director’s Challenge: The wastes have a large number of people looking for a new home and family away from the hazards of the world. They would likely seek to join us if we gave them a chance. How do we treat potential new immigrants and should we allow them?

Solution: The Brotherhood is always willing to serve as a safe haven for travelers and migrants, whether on a permanent or temporary basis. Those who wish to join will be given an orientation to better understand our laws and purpose. Any who decide to move on to other settlements will be allowed to remain in Unity for a short time, and will be given directions to nearby friendly settlements and information about nearby hazards such as raiders and infestations.

@Ahigin: I know this is also late too, but the flag you made is really well done. I appreciate it.

Thanks, it was lots of fun to make.

EQ - I didn't have time to make my orders too neat and tidy, so I PMed them to you.

Scarlet_King - you're a god of statistics, sir.

Scarlet_King - you're a god of statistics, sir.

There is no statistics evidenced. If there was you'd see little asterisks or "p=XYZ" and probably bars over the data.

I just want to make it clear that it is 100% definite the update will be completed tomorrow. I know a few of you are straggling, and you need to get them in.

The First Diocletian Reform

Historically, in a world long forgotten by most and considered unimportant by the rest, there was a mighty Roman Empire that ruled over lands called 'Europe'. At a critical point in its history, this empire was ruled by an Emperor named 'Diocletian'. That Diocletian implemented many essential and far reaching reforms throughout the empire.

Today, we live in a world consumed by fallout and radiation, hundreds of years after The Last War. 'Fort Rome' as our people call ourselves, is but a city on a hill for hundreds of miles in any direction, staring out at the bleakness of the wasteland as a beacon shining in the darkness. Yet we must always evolve, and we must always succeed. And thus it is that I, Consul Diocletian the First of Fort Rome, begin a program of reforms by amending our previous slavery and immigration policies.

Manual labor is essential to the foundation of any civilization. While previously this role has been consumed by the slaves, made of people unwilling to join us voluntarily, it shall now be made up of Indentured Servants who shall work their way to becoming full citizens of Fort Rome. These Indentured Servants, whether bought through the slave trade or come to us through natural immigration means, shall work in the fields or in the scrapyards for 2 years (4 turns), at which point they are released into Roman society as full citizens with a meager allowance of caps to allow them to sustain themselves until they find their niche in society. Occasionally there will not be enough food or water to sustain a large increase in population, at which point Indentured Servants shall be kept on for a short time longer, and be given a larger allowance upon release.

The second path to citizenship for those who immigrate to Fort Rome is through full time military service with the Patrol Regiment. This regiment, newly created, shall patrol both lands under our control and those surrounding them, keeping our roads and travelers safe while also giving warning of any impending threats encroaching on our borders. This option is only for those who willingly come to Fort Rome to serve and not to those who were purchased through the slave trade.

Because of these changes, Fort Rome shall be releasing 300 former slaves into our population as proud citizens. These men and women shall do our people proud, and serve with distinction and honor just as we expect of each and every Roman.

Signed,
Diocletian I
Consul of Fort Rome

Who could refuse a deal like that~

In all fairness, I did accidentally delete the stats and have to rebuild them. Aiming for some time tomorrow now. Good news is that probably only three players are going to be out a faction.

Faction Name: Vault 56
Leader Name: Joseph Larson
Leader Trait: Fearsome
Starting Location: Blue Ridge, AL
Leader Background:
Regarded as the strongest leader the vault has yet had, Joseph came to become Overseer during a crisis. The previous Overseer had had inappropriate relations with some of his subjects, resulting in an inflamed riot of several important sects within the vault. During the chaos and uncertainty of the riot, Joseph managed to persuade Vault security to allow him to talk to the Overseer to negotiate peace. After several hours of “negotiations,” Joseph announced over Vault intercoms that the Overseer was stepping down, and had decided to leave the Vault forever.

When the great Vault doors had been opened for the first time in centuries, the previous Overseer nervously wandered out, albeit with a new limp and heavy breathing. Joseph was unanimously elected Overseer in his place, and initiated a new chapter for the Vault. He has become a symbol of the future, saying that “We are not going to toil no more in the confines of this manufactured world, we will strike out and forge a new future for ourselves. For Humanity.”

Origins: Vault Dwellers
Traits: Industrious
Capital Type: Vault
Background: N/A

That sounds... ominous.

If we are absolutely swimming in low tech melee, can we use the forge to melt them down into materials. And if so, at what ratio?

Faction Name: Finders Keeper's Trader Union
Leader Name: Johnathan "Finder Keeper" Hill
Leader Trait: Enigmatic
Starting Location: 33.377142, -80.127479, Between Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie, Crossroads (Where Cross, SC is)
Leader Background:
Johnathan was always an interesting man, heir to the Hill's Landing Motel he believes strongly in the power of trade. The way it spreads one's influence, and power, the way it can prevent war, and how it can start war. It is a soft power, one that has allowed Johnathan to slowly consolidate his influence over his small community in Crossroads, a smaller city that was mostly ignored during the war. Now with Crossroads and the surrounding region under his thumb, he seeks to expand his small trade empire across the wasteland.
Origins: Survivors
Traits: Expansionist
Capital Type: Pre-War Community
Background: Hill's Landing and the town of Crossroads specifically was a small community known as Cross prewar, too small and inconsequential they luckily avoided most of the fighting and the bombs. Thus leaving the majority of the small town intact, and safe, they survived mostly off of fishing, as well as trade and selling their wares, as they had done pre war.

All right, just spent an hour trying to figure out how to get things rolling again, and it appears that My Passport external drive has decided I'm no longer allowed to edit anything. I'm trying to fix this, but it's not looking promising. If anyone has ideas for a solution, I'm all ears, as this update isn't happening until this is fixed.

Is it a mac/PC thing? We have a terrabyte drive that was formatted on a PC and when we open it with our Mac we can't upload anything (but can download/read). The one we formatted on a mac works both ways.

EDIT: Google says something like this happens for Passport too... but not sure if this helps explain your problem. Still, if you have a PC you could try to open it on (assuming you work on a Mac) you might have some luck.

EDIT 2: Mac OS can only mount Microsoft NTFS volumes in readonly mode. In order to write to an NTFS partition, you need something like the following:

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/32571/ntfs-mounter

There was also a utility called "NTFS-3G for Mac OS X":
http://shadowofged.blogspot.com/2007/03/ntfs-3g-for-mac-os-x.html

Here's another solution:

Enable native NTFS read/write support (in Snow Leopard):

No, it's not a Mac/PC issue as every computer used has been a PC. I did do an automatic scan for errors and it seems to have fixed the issue. I suspect that part of the disk had been corrupted while working on it yesterday. Hopefully the problem will not reemerge, but I am carefully backing things up as I go and making sure it doesn't raise its ugly head again.
