Boycotts!

There are far better reasons to boycott The Netherlands. Their preferred use celsius over fahrenheit probably tops the list.

First of all, it should be called Linnaeus instead of Celsius since Carl Linnaeus was the one that came up with the idea of a centigrade system of temperature.

Second of all, how is a temperature system based on the freezing and boiling points of the very substance we need to survive any worse than a temperature system based on salt water and the body temperature of Mr Fahrenheit's wife's armpit who, might I add, didn't even have a normal body temperature and which is why we use 96.29381523870t4303451894571924587298452ºF as our standard body temp?!

Because I like where 0 and 100 are on the fahrenheit scale. 0 degrees should feel bloody cold when you walk outside into it, and 100 should feel damned hot but not cook you. With celcius you have a 0 degree that's "oh, guess I need a jacket maybe if the sun gets hidden behind the clouds and a wind pops up" and a 100 that would burn you to death. Fahrenheit, on the other hand, gets the 0 to 100 just right.

0 is actually quite cold. You will need a jacket no matter what..

0 Celcius of course. 0 Fahrenheit, not really if the sun is out and there isn't a breeze.

Someone told me that when it's cold the Brits tend to talk in C and when it's hot in F. Just to get respectively smaller and bigger numbers so it'll sound more impressive.

Not sure if that was about just the Brits though.

The freezing point of water is 32ºF. You're either a freak or Russian if you don't need a jacket at 0ºF

Then they should use kelvin in that case. "It was almost 300ºK yesterday!"

As a Minnesotan I can safely say that if it is 0 outside the only acceptable times to not wear a jacket is if you are running to grab the paper/mail.
Every other time that involves you going outside, you need to wear a jacket, if only for safety precautions.

He says as he lives in Hammerfell!

I try not to buy anything with palm oil, mostly labeled as "vegitabilsk olje", not sure what the English translation is.

(Technically it should not be ºK but simply K.)

Wouldn't it be better to use Rankine, and say "It was over 540ºR yesterday!"

You just mixed them up:p

Unless you're really, really tolerant to the cold, 0 farenheit is really, really freaking cold. No matter what.

0 Celsius is 32 farenheit. With sun and no wind, that isn't too bad, although I'd probably prefer closer to 40 farenheit.

0 Celsisus is the freezing point of water, not 0 F.

I would, of course, question the assumption that 100 F doesn't cook you. Especially in a humid climate like Florida...:p

Now, as for the debate between the two, chemisty class has really weirded this out for me to the point where I think of everyday temperatures (Say, 20-90F) in Farenheit, while thinking of more extreme temperatures in terms of Celsius. While I like farenheit due to being used to it, if you're starting from scratch Celsius is easier, if less specific.

Did a quick search and didn't find a general boycott thread in the Tavern like El Mac's old one in the off topic of yore. So... starting one! Who are you boycotting, and why?

As of today, I am initiating a 1 year boycott on McDonald's. Actually, I am making it through the end of February 2013 just to make it easy to remember when it ends.

Why? I'll tell you! The damned automated greeting in the drive-thru. It tells me to order when I am ready, so I start ordering and then get cut off by a live person asking me to wait a moment, pretty please. Now, I do not blame the live person for this, but rather the automated greeting they now use instead of a live greeting from someone.

I finally had enough today when it happened again and so just said "nevermind", parked my car and went inside to complain about this to the manager. Her reaction was, "I am sorry, they are not supposed to ask you to wait. I'll have a talk with them." I immediately got royally pissed off and yelled at her that it wasn't the girl's fault in the drive-thru but the fault of the automated system and that she'd better not punish the drive-thru girl for crappy McDonald's policy.

So anyway, 1 year hiatus from McDonald's. SHARE YOUR BOYCOTT STORIES!!

I stand corrected... I will join you in your boycott of Macca's drive throughs, for one year,

Please note that I had a typo in my original post and obviously meant 2014 instead of 2013, as 2013 was when I began the boycott.

Anyhoo, in less than 28 hours, my year long boycott is over!!! Praise the Lord and pass the heart attack in a sack! I fully intend to be in that drive-thru at 12:01am Saturday morning.

I come to my dear friends here in CFC for help, though. What should I order to break my McDonald's fast? Should I stick with the traditional and get a Big Mac/Fries/Coke or go with those new Mighty Wings I am seeing advertised? Oh, and it looks like they have shamrock shakes right now as well, though with my luck I would hear, "I am sorry, our shake machine is already shut down for the evening" if I tried to order that.

I return from researching settlement boycotts and see this at the top of my feed.

:scared:

It is the universe's way of telling you to go have a McChicken and a coke and a smile. Now tell me what you think I should order!

Oh yeah, Future Shop's joined Dell as another company on my crap list for wasting 4 hours of my life waiting in line for an offer a few months back.
