The BBC is done terrestrially (sp?) it does two channels on the standard analouge transmission (that's all the channels in this poll) it has a news channel that everyone who has cable or sattelite gets, and it has it's own digital service which is rubbish, because apart from BBC News 24, the channels suck like breast-fed babies.

License?

Everyone who buys a television in Britain has to pay a tax (called the License fee), I think its about 100 pounds at the moment. You can opt out of paying this if you say you will not watch any BBC channels. However the BBC have vans that go round looking at what you watch to make sure and if you are caught watching the BBC then you get fined.

I know, who the hell watches BBC4? And I don't see any need for BBC3 because there are lots of digital channels for kids. Personally I think the BBC should limit itself to only broadcasting what would not be broadcast in a free market. Shows such as Eastenders are the mainstay of commerical channels. I don't see the point in the BBC showing it.

No, as long as you can recieve TV broadcasts you have to pay a TV licence fee in the UK. Someone once was able to claim that as his TV was only connected to a VCR he needn't pay for a licence and he won his court case, but if you can recieve any UK TV chanel then you have to pay the licence fee. If you only watch ITV (you moron ) you still have to pay the fee.

I believe he lost it, as the court ruled that the fee was for the operation of the actual equipment rather than reciving of broadcasts. I may be wrong, though. I stopped keeping up to date with the law a long time ago.

Anyway, I voted for Channel 4. It is probably the most intelligent terrestrial channel, with BBC 2 coming close behind.

He did win, he could prove that he had no ariel and could not recieve broadcasts, which is what the fee is legally for. I don't doubt that this strategy was tried again however by some shyster lawyer. I think BBC2 is the best channel. C4 has gone downhill in recent years. (still love Time Team & Scrapheap Challenge though. )
