This is a thread to discuss the very weird idea known as camp.

For those of you who don't know what camp is: Camp is basically the idea that something has allure because of its bad taste or ironic value.

For example, I would describe a movie like The Cannonball Run, or a show such as Mystery Science Theater 3000, as being campy.

So what do you think of this concept? Is it just weird, or is there some kind of sense to it all? What do you think draws us to the corny things in life?

*passing through* Camp -> Campness, Camping (it up).

The Cannonball Run was a great movie and you sir have offended me. I demand duels of pistols at 20 paces for your indiscretion.

*Bombay Saphire, my fave w/ a slice of lime and Schweps Tonic (no low cal foolishness and dont drown it in the ice)*

The moustache sir! Never as a streight man worn a gayer moustache! Its not even camp its just bumming! Defend the film if you must, but will you defend the moustache!

I didn't say I hated the movie, just that is was a bit, as Bombay Sapphire up there put it: "camping it up."

I still want duels.

I don't think it was campy. Movies like "Not another teen movie" and "Scary movie" are campy.

My first thought upon reading this thread was: "hi, could you leave your base now? We want to blow up your stuff."

The title of MST3K may fall under the label of 'camp', as would some of the movies they get forced to sit through, but the show as a whole is comedic gold!

If you survive Pistols with Skadistic, I challenge you to Camera Tripods at two-forty-six in the afternoon!

The city of Las Vegas.

Well, MST3K is based on the premise of camp, and making fun of it, but it's certainly not camp itself.

I thought the Rocky Horror Picture Show was the epitome of camp.

Two people I think of whenever I hear the word "camp"
