Capto Iugulum: 1920 - 1939

Regarding Brittany

Intransigence (Does not mean 'annoying').

The operative word here is 'nearly'. We still do not believe that war is the correct solution, and as noted before this war comes so quickly as to prevent an investigation by a neutral third power. However, we understand how Britain has come to its decision, and it has in no small part been expedited by Brittany's attitude. Brittany could have, and maybe still could, back away from its blustering statements and bravado, to adopt a more cooperative tone. This alone may be enough to convince Britain to stay its hand.

Now, the British have blocked the true evidence from getting out to the world. We have explained the pictures, we have explained the doctored documents of the United Kingdom. We have sat here, as the United Kingdom, has flaunted their false evidence, and flaunt their lies around to the world. Britain's attitude is no better than ours.
Where we are willing to have the true evidence leak, the United Kingdom is afraid that it will, and so, they have set up an unlawful blockade on our country, yet the world supports them. We have told you of the true group behind this mess, and no one will believe us, or even look at the proof. We have human evidence and witnesses, where they do not.

The Confederation suggests that Brittany and Great Britain might do well to come to an agreement whereby Brittany pays reparations, and an independent multinational investigation takes place, and if the investigation demonstrates that Brittany is culpable, the reparations should continue, but if the investigation demonstrates that Brittany is not culpable, the reparations should cease and the monies paid to Great Britain should be repaid.

If Brittany and Great Britain agreed to that, then the issue of whether or not Brittany committed the alleged crimes could be solved without doubt, and neither disputant would stand to lose anything substantial.

We'd like an addendum that those responsible for the attack be held accountable for the destruction of our property and the injury and deaths of our citizens.

Certainly, provided that the report demonstrated that Brittany was culpable, the accountability of the culprits would also be necessary, although if not not.

Define 'holds the reparations'. Do you intend for us to hold the reparations for one year until further investigations are complete, and then return them to one party or another depending on the results of the investigation?

Yes, that way, the United Kingdom would not be able to use them if they decide it during the search. A neutral party holding the reparations is better.

In terms of policies and projects for Capto Iugulum, what would be one to foster economic development and the sort, without getting into a war immediately?

Thanks, will definitely look into these now.

Turkey suggests Britain not allow a neutral third party to hold the reparations. We have no stock in this conflict, but we cannot contain our belief that Britain is honorable and can be trusted to return the reparations should it be necessary.

OOC: I'm in a hospital waiting room with nothing but a phone. Please just put all spare EP into my project. Also, my conscripts are still in existence. Why?

Yes, it seems like a profound act of distrust in Britain to not expect them to honestly hold onto the funds themselves. Still, if Brittany's cooperation is contingent on this, then Vinland will take the money, and pay back an equal amount once the investigation is complete.

OOC: Britain cannot be trusted. The Arabian Empire was never payed the full reparations owed to it from the Great War. Convenient that Britain would declare war when it did since that essentially nullifies the need to pay what was left. ;)

OOC: We did? No one told me that. :p

In conjunction with our ally, the Roman Empire, the Empire of Russia is hereby imposing a 50% increase on the tariffs of all British goods entering our territory until such time that the British remove themselves from the Arabian peninsula. This will increase by 25% every year until all British forces evacuate the occupied regions. If they fail to do so, we shall maintain the tariffs in perpetuity. We encourage our allies and the other nations of the world to follow our example and use our economic strength to show the British that we will not allow them to continue to bully the nations of the world.

And Britain cannot be trusted. Why should they get the reparations, when they will only use our own money to oppress other countries, and make up excuses to declare war on others?

TO: Russia and the Romans
FROM: Brazil

Preventing war by raising tariffs is an honorable path and Brazil applauds the move. We cannot do the same, but we can offer to reopen Brazilian markets to Russians and Romans so that any issues brought about through this program can be negated on the your people.
