Capto Iugulum: 1920 - 1939

As in the past, any stragglers will have the next 24 hours to get new sets of orders in. I'm a generous sort, and there may be more time after that, but no promises.

Orders won't be in on time.

Been at a friend's house unexpectedly the past 36 hrs or so, not time whatsoever to access CivFanatics.

And so ends the peace in our time

Guangxi said:
His Highness King John II Aisin Gioro of Guangxi is willing to have peace, and General Ma will be able to retire quietly and in great comfort if he will abdicate and cede sovereignty over the territories held by the Ascendant Realm to His Highness.

The Unified Realm of China understands this to mean that Kwangsi desires war. We will accordingly take advantage to the opportunity to cause the "Unified" in "Unified Realm" to become more than a dream.
-Colonel Hsiao Yi, Lanchow
P.S. It's General Yehao.

Given the state of affairs, General Yehao has decided that he warrants a promotion. His title is now Marshal.

@Nintz, from this point you probably have another 12-24 hours or so, since I've actually got RL committments this afternoon which will take up a good deal of time.

Thanks. Composing orders now, expect them in the next hour or so.

Occitania would require one amendment before being able to sign this treaty. We believe that it is unfair to the French states that they be obliged into the defence of Germany if an isolated conflict far removed from us, such as in the Balkans (OOC: looking at Croatia-Hungary), were to oblige us into said war. Occitania affirms its cordial relations with Germany, and may join such a conflict if our parliament and monarchy felt so and Germany requested such assistance, but we insist we retain the right for future governments to determine their course of action in such a circumstance, and not be faced with breaking the treaty if they decline to participate.

Therefore, as Occitania does believe this treaty has value as a method of peace in western Europe, we believe Germany should be a special signatory, and act as a guarantor of the treaty, but not require French or Dutch-Flemish reciprocation. That is to say, they shall declare their willingness to protect with arms all the other signatories without said signatories being required to act the same towards Germany (they are free to assist Germany if they choose to though). We think this retains all that is valuable in the treaty per Dauphine and Orleans rightful request Germany be included, and perhaps also make Burgundy feel better with its terms.

Thus the treaty would reread as follows:

1. All participant states recognize the legitimacy and borders of all other participant states excepting areas where plebiscites apply under the treaties which ended the Rhine-Rhone War.

2. The signatory state of the Imperial German Union will act as a guarantor of the independence and peace of all its signatories, and will consider an attack on any of its signatories as an attack on itself. This does not apply to attacks on colonial holdings by other colonial powers or intervention in internal unrest.

3. All other participant states agree that an attack on one member state, excepting the Imperial German Union, is an attack on all. This does not apply to attacks on colonial holdings by other colonial powers or intervention in internal unrest.

4. Members are exempt from involvement if the other member state is the aggressor nation in the conflict.

Also, Germany 100% supports this version of the treaty.

The NPCs consent. I should mention that my updating was a little delayed with an unfortunate incident with some malware, but we're all set and underway now.

No more orders of any kind will be accepted beyond this point.

I should mention, guys, there are other kinds of literature and cineman than science fiction :p .

I should mention, guys, there are other kinds of literature and cineman than science fiction :p .

Hey, a lot of my fiction ideas were hardcore literature. :p

In all seriousness, an explosion of science fiction kind of makes sense at this point. You've got a boom in consumption and production, as the threats of wars across the world recedes and people in the developed world feel more secure (outside of Scandinavia and Denmark). Its a time for social, political, and technological progress and people are going to start thinking, "hey, how do we make our lives better?"

Science fiction is kind of the logical extension of that.

Indeed, which is why science fiction is the only type of genre that would be produced.

That, or NESers are all Big Nerds who only know about scifi stuff.

I only mentioned it because I've received a dozen various types of science fiction cultural contributions for this update. I've weeded about half of them out, especially the one inspired by that bastard Stirling.

Argentine Political Parties: 1931 Edition

Argentine Proletarist Union Party (Traditional Proletarist): The Argentine Proletarist Union Party currently holds and has never held seats in Congress; it's very existence is illegal in Argentina. The members of this clandestine organization have some support from the most angry and downtrodden of Argentina's poor, but their support pales in comparison to other parties, mostly due to the strength of the economy and the strength of Argentine democracy. Rumors insist that the party is part of a larger organization extending throughout every country of South America; these have not been confirmed. Their leader, El Zorro, has proclaimed in leaflets to create a better society for everyman and everywoman, on the highly successful models of Scandinavia and the United Proletarist Republics of America.

United Social Democratic Party (Social Proletarist): The United Social Democratic Party, led by Mr. Horatio M(anford). Tyler, is the second-largest minority party in the Argentine Congress, as a result of the defection of many from the old Democratic party after the 1929 election. The party has the largest share of its' support from the poor, both urban and rural, and refugee immigrants from Europe. The party supports many new social programs, projects, and strong unions for the working people of Argentina, as well as new subsidies and tariffs to protect the local economy from foreign manipulations. Favors neutrality of Argentina in foreign affairs.

Liberal Democratic Party (Liberal): The Liberal Democratic Party, led by Mr. Juan A(ugustine). James Jr., son of former President Juan A(ugustine). James, is the largest minority party, but has been much reduced due to its' lack of success in recent elections and the complete debacle of 1929. The Liberals support government-assisted development of local industries, higher tariffs, and a public pension program as modeled in Brazil and elsewhere, gaining most of their support from working and middle class voters. Favors greater intervention for protection of American democracies and republics from tyrants and dictators.

National Democratic Party (Moderate): The National Democratic Party, led by Mr. Robert Carlos Lafayette is the third-largest minority party, and attempts to find common ground between the Liberal Democratic and National Conservative positions. So far, the partisan nature of the division has led to lackluster support for the party, but prior to 1929, the party didn't even exist.

National Conservative Party (Conservative): The National Conservative Party, led by President Arthur M(erlin). Harkness, is the party of overwhelming majority in the Argentine Congress. Favoring open markets, low taxes, and proactive trade policy, the National Conservative Party has been the juggernaut of Argentine politics for many elections. The party retains the support of large swathes of the working- and middle-classes, and has the greatest support of the richest and best-connected Argentines. Takes a strong stance on protection of constitutionalism and democracy in the Americas, moderated by national interest and foreign sovereignty.

Moralist Party (Religious): The Moralist Party, led by Mr. Jaime P(ierre). Escalante, is the second-smallest party in Argentina, mostly due to a large defection of members and voters to the Christian Moralist party. Supports a combination of Papal and Brazilian Moralist ideologies for implementation in Argentina.

Christian Moralist Party (Religious): The Christian Moralist Party, led by Mr. George H(enry). Jacobs, is the third-smallest in Argentina, and owes its' very existence to defections after the 1929 elections. Uniting Christians of all stripes, it supports most of the policies of Moralism, that is, strengthening support for marriage, anti-abortion, anti-contraception, and prohibitions on liquor, tobacco, and smut, while remaining completely neutral to doctrinal policy. This approach has allowed many Catholics and Protestants to find common ground on policies which interest traditionalist Christians.

National Republican Tradition Party (Militarist): The National Republican Tradition Party, led by Mr. Alberto S(tanley). Werther, son of former President Alfred M(atthew). Werther, is the smallest in Argentina. The party advocates for a strong military, vigorous and proactive foreign policies, and intolerance of anti-liberal, anti-democratic, and anti-republican elements, both in Argentina and in the Americas, while maintaining strong Presidential leadership. The most vocal republican activists and warhawks find refuge here. Although the smallest party, it is also one of the fastest growing, drawing the most radical elements from most of the major parties.

OOC: Thanks to Grandkhan for the format.

1930 Great Eight

1. Russia: 769 EP
2. United Kingdom: 718 EP
3. Germany: 710 EP
4. Japan: 692 EP
5. Italy: 370 EP
6. Brazil: 336 EP
7: Scandinavia: 320 EP
8. Argentina: 278 EP

Stragglers

9. United States of America: 262 EP
10. Vinland: 228 EP

What you have here is a strange situation where the gap between the bottom half and the top half of the Great Eight Economies is over 300 EP. There is absolutely no comparison between these economies. Four super powers exists, then four second tier powers, followed by a bunch of nobodies.
