Capto Iugulum

@Lord Iggy

You should probably send out people to find the refugees, not the other way around. Many have run out of money, how are they supposed to send representatives to the Riksdag? You have a bureaucracy, use it!

How do you think I got this message to them? I would imagine this came primarily through posters and the like. If transport is a serious difficulty for them, and I have just completed colossal infrastructure projects throughout the country that should make travel quite cheap and straightforward, then we can certainly provide some money for representatives to travel. Alternatively, it would likely be more straightforward to go to them (and we do know where they are, we don't need to 'find' them ;)) and ask their thoughts, so your suggestion has been taken into account.

Brazilian agricultural output will be focused towards aiding your nations in feeding the vast number of refugees currently crossing into your borders. We request free docking in your harbors to unload food stuffs for them.

We will ensure that there is free and open docking space for you in our ports along the Gulf of Birgitta.

OOC: On second thought I think I got in a bit deep here, it seems survival will be far more challenging than I believed... I'll just take Peru, it looks nice and quiet and if I ever get into trouble I'll owe it to the nation to get her out of it.
I have redacted my earlier posts and notified the few peope who were well disposed towards supporting ASA/CRA.

Time to look for the lost treasures of Machu Picchu!

To Occitania
From the Confederation

It is our opinion that the best way to resolve the arms smuggling problem is in accordance with fixed principles; that is to say that it should be a legal, rather than a political, decision, based on an extradition treaty.

We therefore propose that a fair and two-sided extradition treaty be brought about, whereby not only these smugglers will be deported to Occitania, but any similar defendants will be deported from either country to the other, and whereby there are clear safeguards to oblige the courts, in such cases, to try the case fairly and even-handedly, and to sentence the defendants, if convicted, in a fashion that is in accordance with the established penalties in the country where they committed the crime (that is to say, in this case, in the Confederation).

Please indicate your acceptance or otherwise of this proposal. It seems to us the most reliable way of ending any sort of issue over the deportation of smugglers.

After further reflection, the Emperor has decided that Japan will compensate Jacksonia for both the lives and ships lost. It has been decided that the offer will be 115 EP (OCC: Cost of ships plus a little extra for the lives lost) to be paid between 1915 and 1920 and an apology be issued to the both the government and the families of those who died in the conflict. If you desire something else, we can negotiate. While some have construed Japan as being a callous nation, Japan prides itself on having an honorable conduct with neighbors who bear no ill will towards the Imperial Court. Thus, we extend, as you in the West might say, 'an olive branch of peace.' We hope that this incident bears no lasting scars on the relationship between Jacksonia and Japan.

To My Dear Cousin Harald,

It has been far too long since our last correspondence. We have both seen great turmoil within our nations, and I would greatly desire to hear more news of your health and wellbeing, and of the state of things in the Kongo.

The nation of Vinland has changed a great deal over the past half-decade. The Purging of Prussia and the Polish expulsions have seen many refugees from Eastern Europe flooding into our cities, and the recent collapse of the United States of America has seen an even greater mass of humanity pour forth into the Kingdom. It can be disconcerting to see so many foreigners in one's own nation, but they are industrious people grateful for a second chance at life, and have proven to be a valuable addition to our nation. Their food is a fine addition to the national palate, several of their own traditional festivals have begun to be celebrated, and they all seem to be making an earnest attempt at learning Vinlandic Swedish- although as the old joke goes, it's difficult for even a Swede to tell what a Vinlander is saying.

Governments rise and fall in the Riksdag. The Social Proletarists have taken charge with a majority, as of the last election, and they have behaved themselves quite well. You and I have both always been champions of the rights of the Common Man, and it is reassuring to see that, at least in Vinland's case, power can rest in the hands of the populist left without leading the nation to ruin and violence.

Ah, but for the times that this is not true. I continue to be mystified at how Scandinavia fell to militant proletarists. It has been a source of profound sadness for me that the nation that we once both could think of as our homeland is now some alien brother who recognizes us not. At any rate, I do hope that Scandinavia's iconoclasm comes to an end soon, so that our disparate peoples are living in close friendship once more.

How go the affairs of the Kongo Society? After the agreement in Brazzaville, I have heard little of the reunification of Scandinavia, and would greatly like to hear from you what is taking place. Difficult times, no doubt, but in difficulty can be found opportunity. That, if nothing else, is the lesson that I have learned from my reign thusfar.

In more personal matters, my family and I are doing well enough. A picture of our family is appended within this envelope. Markus is 12 now, and has been off at boarding school for several years now... he looks to be more of a man every time I see him. Margareta is 18, and has taken to accompanying myself on many affairs of state. Hendrika is 16, and seems to have developed her father's interest in humanitarian issues- I'll be bringing her in a short amount of time to meet with the American refugees in the west.

Ah yes... the refugees. This latest wave has settled heavily, especially in the Vastermark, and though I welcome them, I cannot help but feel some apprehension. No doubt the vast majority of this group seeks what all immigrants to Vinland seek- new beginnings, an escape from war, a better life- but I fear that the more unscrupulous amongst them may take advantage of their situation, or someday demand the independence of the region. This, I could not stand for.

It is for that reason that Hendrika and I are setting out to tour the West. We'll test the waters with the refugees, and see what sort of long-term solution they are looking for. Perhaps some will wish to be transported to more peaceful areas of America, and perhaps some will desire to become full citizens of Vinland. Exactly what we will do with such a large influx of anglophones remains to be seen, but it is my firm belief that with straightforward conversation humane generosity, good ends will ensue.

Yours,

-Ingvar

My weekend got a little hectic, and the deadline for orders is being pushed back to Friday. Diplomatic and PM responses will be sent tomorrow.

Can I join as Austria or the Swiss or someone?

If you want to play, you have to look on the stats on the front page and the map in the most recent update and find a nation that hasn't got a player.

Yeah, because Austria doesn't exist anymore as a separate entity, and the Swiss have a player (I think). Africa or the Far East could use some independent thought, if you're up to it, and North America is interesting.

I made a list of all the nations not taken:
Bosnia, Cechy-Morava, Corsica, Croatia, Denmark (I thought someone was Denmark, but I might be mistaken), Hungary (Royalist), Occitania, Portugal, Afghanistan, Angola, Azerbaijan, Kongo (same as the case with Denmark), Oman, Oranjien, Persia, Pontic Republic, Turkey, Yemen, Guangxi, Hawaii, Kalinga, New Zealand, Tibet, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Great Lakes Republic, Honduras, Jamaica, Mayan Republic, Mississippi Proletarist Republic, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, United States of America, Uruguay, Venezuela.
There's also more, but I believe they were already claimed.

Ah god... I am a 5 year veteran of some epic IH's at totalwar.org and even put together some Real life books on them (they on Amazon :D).... but I'm confused with the rules! HELP MEEEEEEEE! :D

What books? I'm almost done with the one I am reading now, and I will need a new one soon :)

Also, I suggest sending a message to the GM. I can help, but I won't be the best to explain everything.

I put together two books on 2 Interactive Histories over at totalwar.org. Ever relevant post and all the chapters. 370 pages just in my newest one (not online just yet). The other one I got on Amazon is almost 300 pages I think :). What the link to the one?

We will accept your offer, and your apology. We, too, hope that such a confrontation does not occur again, and that we can continue to build a lasting friendship as nations.
