Capto Iugulum

To: Franco-Burgundy
From: Peru

As you've requested for us to restate in public, while we now recognize both factions (given the elections and friendliness of the Republicans even towards those funding the Monarchists) we find it a great boon to Europe and the LCN that someone in Western Europe has a backbone.

May Franco-Burgundy bring peace to Spain. (By this we do not mean that we hope the Monarchists will lose or that the Republicans will win with Franco-Burgundy's forces, but that we find it a commendable general principle to shed one's own blood to ensure a quick return to peace (and avoiding a Proletarist surge) over sending money.)
We ourselves planned to send our fleet to help the Monarchists, before witnessing the tolerant nature of the Liberal Republicans over the last year.

Secondly, our conditions for turning over Aquitaine provisioned that all Spaniards living there be fully recompensed for the change in government. We demanded that Occitania either make laws to protect the Spanish populace, or pay to move them back to Spain, where we can then relocate them correctly.

From Occitania
To Republican Spain
CC World

We confirm with our Republican ally that we will in fact do both. We fully respect the Spanish people's rights in Aquitaine.

The Confederation explicitly recognises the Republican government as the sole legitimate government of Spain.

We furthermore declare our intention to support our longstanding ally, Spain, in the suppression of the unjustified and illegal military coup that has usurped control of a large portion of Spain and its colonies, in cooperation with Occitania, by means of sending a significant force from both countries comprised of ground forces and aircraft squadrons.

We would also like to announce the cession of Spanish Aquitaine from Spain to Occitania.

On behalf of the Rhine-Rhone Pact, we also invite Spain, Sardinia, and, subject to Sardinia's acceptance, Corsica, to join our alliance. If Sardinia and Corsica wish to accept later rather than now, the invitation will remain open for the present.

We would like to add that we have no interest in the sort of ridiculous democratic crusading that Brazil seems to engage in: we stand for constitutionalism and the rule of law, and military rule is the most abhorrent of all governments to us. This intervention is a point of conscience for us, and we do not, as widely supposed, as you may now see, have any sympathy with this ridiculous notion that a military coup in a nation allied to us does not warrant our full-blooded intervention. We are their ally and their neighbour; this is nothing short of our duty. Saying this conflict is one for the Spanish to sort out is calculated to bring about the slowest possible conclusion, and merely means that Spain's armies will both be swelled by the money and materiel provided by the allies of each side. What could be more selfish or more ruinous? As long as this is held to be right and proper, true, only Spanish soldiers will die, but they will die in triple the numbers on each side, and for many times as many years.

We also would like to announce that the Spain does not intend to contest Italy's ownership of Tripolitania, and would like to assure Italy that we have no intention of infringing their coastal controls. No action will be undertaken by the Rhine-Rhone pact other than those actions directly necessary to reassert rightful Spanish control over rightfully Spanish territories, but if Germany sees fit to declare war on an alliance whose military resources now far outstrip their own, for the sake of a disillusioned and tyrannical dictator, which we highly doubt, then our forces are already on high alert to receive them.

We would also like to ask the Spanish Republicans to confirm all the above details.

The Kingdom of Occitania also confirms the above statements. We recognize Republican Spain as the legitimate government of Spain, and welcome them into the Rhine-Rhone Pact.

To The Confederation, Occitania
From Russia

We are most displeased by these developments. This blatant and uncalled for aggression will only exacerbate the situation in Spain and potentially result in a direct intervention on our part to protect our Spanish ally

From the Confederation

We shall not argue with you on the matter. We consider you are entitled to your opinion, and we do not begrudge you your sovereign right to send your forces wherever you choose.

The Confederation best think twice before sending a single French soldier into Spain.

The Confederation is sending soldiers into Spain, and thinks very little of any veiled threats that Germany might come out with on the subject. If Germany intends to invade the Confederation, then we would obviously appreciate a declaration of war; if not, then we shall not try to impede any other German actions that it chooses to undertake with regard to the Spanish Civil War.

We have stated before that we intend to protect the Spanish Monarchy through whatever means necessary. Any attacks on them, is to be treated as an attack on Germany proper. We are not issuing declarations of war based off of planned belligerent actions. But know that we will not stand by, while this 'Great Rape of Spain' occurs. Any hostilities that break out will be purely based off of French actions. Not German.

If any hostilities that break out are going to result entirely from Confederate actions, then we may assure you that there will be no hostilities either between German and Confederate shipping or along our mutual border.

Argentina is puzzled by Germany's claims that a 'Great Rape of Spain' is about to occur. We had thought that Germany's claims of protection would extend to the nation and electorate of Spain, and not just the Emperor and his military lackies personally. I thought Germany had an elected body, as do it's component states. Should the King of Brandenburg desire to acquire autonomy with the help of his military, would the German Emperor and legislature stand idly by? The Spanish Emperor was a member of the Republican government; this has nothing to do with proletarism, just a foolish autocrat's belief that he shouldn't have to work within a constitution his father worked so hard to build.

Diplomacy to Denver, Washington, Vinland and Brittany (open)
Spoiler :
Peru hereby officially recognizes the independence, legitimacy and territory of the Washington government in the New England region, as they are clearly the government of choice there.
Similarly while we already fully recognize the independence and legitimacy of the USA we hereby officially recognize their territory to be that of all the territories that freely joined them, as they are clearly the government of choice there (no revolts anywhere yet).
As for the territories of the now extinct Federal remnants and Great Lakes Republic, we believe neither should be recognized as both joined under duress. We ask that representatives from both areas be allowed to come forth to a neutral meeting place, we suggest Brittany if they are willing to hold such a meeting, to announce what type of geographical polity and government they'd like to belong to, whether Denver, Washington, their original polities or a third option.
Also, we hope the Washington government will stop using chemical weapons.

To: Denver and Washington
From: Peru
We encourage both the Washington and Denver governments to seek out negotiations with the other party to hold plebiscites in the areas held by both governments, allowing your adult male populations to vote on whether to belong to either government or any natural third options (such as for example the Great Lakes Republic, and perhaps a hypothetical Deep South Republic (which may be popular with the past supporters of the now extinct federal government)), and what sort of political system they would prefer. If this suggestion is received favorably we suggest a preliminary vote be held to query the various populations what sort of options they believe should be available in the plebiscite such as to eliminate options with marginal support and avoiding a dispersed result when later voting where to belong.

We are gladdened by your recognition of the Washington Government. If General Wallace is willing to stand down and allow for free, fully-enfranchised and foreign-supervised democratic elections to take place in his territory, then we may yet achieve peace without the need for exercising force of arms.

Of course, should Wallace prove to be unwilling to accept these demands, Vinland may find itself forced to military action. In the event that the General's continued intransigence should prevent a peace, Vinland strongly hopes that Peru and the rest of the Pacific Concord will refrain from aiding a man who would have, through his actions, clearly defined himself as a militaristic despot.

The Confederation explicitly recognises the Republican government as the sole legitimate government of Spain.

To: Franco-Burgundian Confederation
From: Vinland

Vinland applauds the Franco-Burgundian Confederation, and adds its voice to the many others who recognize the Republic as the legitimate continuation of the pre-war government of Spain, denouncing the Emperor of Spain for his taking part in a military coup against the civilian government.

Spain will not hold elections during the current war, however, as soon as the war is over we promise that we will hold elections to determine the will of the people, though the participating parties will be adjusted to ensure that traitors cannot poison the minds of our people.
'The Will of the People', carefully 'adjusted' so that the segments of the population who disagree with you are unable to express their democratic will. You are just as much like General Wallace of the Allied Territories of America as he had led us to believe, and our decision to cease recognition of your government is reinforced.

Hear hear!

OOC: Brazil, seated two tables over from the European dinner party, continues to claim that any action taken at all by anyone at the European table will result in fisticuffs with Brazil. Meanwhile, at it's own table, Peru and Columbia have knocked Ecuador unconscious, Chile is talking with Japan at the table past theirs whilst glaring at Brazil, Argentina continues to attempt get everyone's attention and Venezuela is picking its nose.

OOC: While Peru and Vinland are politely debating whether the Allied Territories of America gets to sit at the adults table, or whether it has to go home with the Second Union.

em, Russians, what about our offer?

OOC: meanwhile, at the european table, Spain is arguing with himself, the confederation is moving to stop him. Germany is trying to stop the confederation from messing with Spain.
The Swiss, who were between the confederation and germany, is hideing under the table, having noticed Russian getting up from his own private table and stomping towards the stabling group.
