Capto Iugulum

ooc: And meanwhile the Russians ignore Pontus.

From Pontus
To Russia:

Pontus would like to offer a Defense Pact between our two nations.

We would have to confer with our Roman allies before agreeing to any such arrangement

From Pontus
To Russia:

Ok.

The Confederation earnestly and gladly thanks Vinland, Peru, Brazil, and Argentina for their various statements of support.

The Confederation also recognises Free Swiss neutrality in any conflict with Germany that may result from the present crisis, so long as the Swiss Free State maintains its neutrality.

Brace yourselves, people of the world, for the first draft of a framework for lasting peace on North America... the Treaty of Detroit!

The Treaty of Detroit
Directly from the Pen of the President of the United States of America
A Document in Good Faith to the Government in Denver
On Reconciliation within this restored Second Union

Article 1. General Wallace agrees to step down from his leadership role in the Allied Territories of America upon the completion of elections to be held in 1918.

Article 2. The entire male population of the Allied Territories of America will be emancipated.

Article 3. A plebiscite will be held before the 31st of March, 1918, amongst the emancipated population, allowing the Allied Territories to determine whether they would wish to join the Second Union, or to remain independent. This plebiscite will be overseen by foreign observers, to ensure that the election is legitimate and that fraudulent tactics of voter fraud and voter suppression do not take place.

Article 4. The Second Union and Allied Territories will agree to recognize the decision made by the electorate

Article 5. Section 1. Should the plurality of ballots cast indicate support for joining the Second Union:

Section 2. All current bans on parties will be lifted, allowing for multiple-candidate elections representing a broad range of viewpoints.

Section 3. Elections will be held prior to December 31st, 1918, to provide representatives to serve in Washington on behalf of the population previously under the control of the Allied Territories.

Article 6. Section 1. Should the plurality of ballots cast indicate support for the continued independence of the Allied Territories of America:

Section 2. All current bans on parties will be lifted, allowing for multiple-candidate elections representing a broad range of viewpoints.

Section 3. Elections will be held prior to December 31st, 1918, to provide representatives to serve in a new Senate and Congress to be established in Denver.

Signed, President Zachary Jacobs of the USA
Awaiting the Signature of General Wallace of the Denver Government

Well that's all...interesting. Anyways, a quick statement by me, the humble moderator. I'm going to be out of town and busy over the next few days, and while I might be able to respond to PMs or diplomacy, I can't promise that. I will be back as of late Saturday night, and will respond to any questions Sunday morning. This does not cancel the update on Monday, and be warned, do not hold out waiting for my input, or you could well miss the deadline.

ooc: And meanwhile the Russians ignore Pontus.

OOC: Join the club, and add in rome to that list for me. Seriously, Rome, i need a response to IC diplo, and TLJ or Bestshot, could you re-send me that treaty via PM?

Interesting Tidbits at first glance: The UK has regained 2nd place, with the Netherlands closing in on the Confederation. Japan, Italy, Florida, the Netherlands and Turkey's navies are growing at a noticeable rate. Kurdistan appears to have sold or scrapped its modern fleet.
Still OOC: Apparently you havent noticed that Turkey stole my whole navy and DoW'd me :twitch:

To: Denver, Washington, Vinland
From: Peru

The treaty of Detroit looks great... except that it ignores the other end of the balance.
What about elections in Washington-held territories? We have yet to see the people outside New England express their desire to be under the Washington government.
Peru (and we believe Japan and other Concord members) will stand fully by any refusal by Denver to sign this treaty unless elections are also held in Washington's territories.

Also, Denver must be given time if it feels it needs it to transport the negro population if it does not wish to keep them in its territory.

OOC: Oh I read the war closely, and noticed they sank half of it the first year, but I didn't know they stole the other half at the same time.

I am bewildered by the strange actions of Peru. I also continue to maintain that I have no intention of starting another conflict, and I am willing to sign a treaty formally ending the war, but only if my administration is given a seat at the table that it is written at, and under the accepted condition that merely by negotiating a treaty we are not signing it, and if Vinland attempts to force her will, we will not sign and will defend ourselves.

edit: In other news, I am officially changing my name to Muammar Gaddafi, and shall from now on dress in the most flamboyant method imaginable.

OOC: Brazil, seated two tables over from the European dinner party, continues to claim that any action taken at all by anyone at the European table will result in fisticuffs with Brazil. Meanwhile, at it's own table, Peru and Columbia have knocked Ecuador unconscious, Chile is talking with Japan at the table past theirs whilst glaring at Brazil, Argentina continues to attempt get everyone's attention and Venezuela is picking its nose.

OOC: Our table is sorted, bro, it's your table that had to order that extra ten courses, causing Brazil's share of the bill to skyrocket. :p

To: The Confederation
From: Sardinia

Sardinia accepts the invitation to the Rhine-Rhone Pact, and commends the Confederation on its support for the legitimate government of Spain. Should Corsica wish to join the alliance, we would of course have no qualms.

I'll catch up on what's happening in a bit, but Christos: I played the Pontic Republic briefly (3 turns IIRC) and they hate Russia. It seems a bit of a heel face turn to try and sign a defense pact with them.

Vinland interprets the recent elections in the Second Union to be indicative of support of the present state of the Second Union, given that no candidates from openly separatist parties were elected in what we consider to be quite fair and open elections. Breaking up the reconstituted portions of the nation once again does not seem to be a good recipe for continuing peace, as it leaves each area with irredentist claims, and threatens to leave several small independent regions economically weak and militarily vulnerable, prone to foreign domination and annexation on what may be far less equitable terms.

It's Christos.. what do you expect. :crazyeye:
Christos shall roleplay the various succession of crazy dictators who pop up in small countries the world over, leading their territories to ruin. ;)

I would like to formally announce that I have entered into negotiations with the Second Union to end this war. I still am not signing the Treaty of Detroit as it stands, as it ignores some grave realities that would actually harm the Union should it be signed.

Vinland eagerly awaits the results of the closed-door discussion between President Jacobs and General Wallace.

If Germany legitimately felt like a Brazilian was good at anything short of dancing, and harvesting exotic crops, we'd take that threat a bit more seriously.

Germany again restates that any nation that dares to attack the Spanish Monarchy, or send support to the Republican rabble, with the goal of harming the Spanish Monarchy, will find itself at odds with Germany. The German Navy has been given express orders to sink any ships sending military supplies to the Republican rift-raft, and the German army will respond to any land grabbing attempts made to Spanish lands.

This is not a restatement but rather a new decree, earlier you said you would attack should anyone send troops, now it is if they send funds? Why do you continue to support an old, oppressive and corrupt regime which clearly has no care for its very own citizens?
