Capto Iugulum

To: Milan
From: Naples

We would like to invite your great King Giovanni II to come to Naples some time this year and enjoy what Naples has to offer. We wish to have discussions about the direction of both our nations and their interests for the future, as well as enjoy some leisure time events such as viewing our famous automobile races. Perhaps you may even wish to ride inside our reigning champions car for a few laps, during a practice run of course, to feel the joy and rush of what our great drivers feel.

To: Whom it may concern
From: United States of America

We're aware that earlier the United States of America declared its support for the Spanish Empire. This was very rash of our diplomatic corps. The high command of the United States of America, namely the Congress, Martial Governance Council, and the Presidency, were not consulted. A different opinion in those organizations had emerged. We have not forgotten our abandonment by the Spanish Imperial Senate. Whatsmore, we have seen that European interference in the Western Hemisphere is no longer desirable. The Cubans have been irking for their independence for decades, Atzlan no longer desires ties with Spain, and now the Empire of Spain has interfered in Colombian internal issues, which the United States itself decided was not worth interfering in.

Spain represents the last remnant of major European influence in the Western Hemisphere. Since the birth of this nation, we have resisted European influence in this hemisphere. The Spanish Empire's time has come, and we are terminating our support, and furthermore, declaring war upon the Empire of Spain, to liberate the people of the Spanish Empire and end the final remnant of European dominance in the Western Hemisphere.

OOC: This is my first betrayal in NESing ever. If it makes you feel any better... It does not feel good. Milarqui has every right to be upset... Once again, sorry.

From: Flanders
To: All current and future belligerents in the Atlantic War

It appears right now that the Atlantic will be the focal point of this war, so we urge all belligerent nations to respect the shipping of all neutral nations, allowing them free and safe passage across the ocean. And while we are aware that the Panama Canal is of great strategic value, we would appreciate if it did not meet the same fate as the Suez Canal. Please be as gentle as possible. If any ship flying under the Flemish flag is attacked, we will expect full reparations by the end of the war, and will use all diplomatic tools at our disposal to acquire it.

OOC: I think, especially if the other nations I expect to join do join on the sides I expect, that the 'Atlantic War' is an appropriate name, and certainly sounds cooler than World War I :p of course EQ can call it what he wants, though.

OOC: Your journey to the Dark Side is nearly complete.

From: Empire of Spain

It is sad that you have chosen this path. You have chosen to support those who, until just a few months ago, insulted you, derided you and were only a step away from calling you a criminal, while deciding to fight against those that helped you and befriended you in the most trying times, just because we decided to break our alliance with you. May God have mercy on your souls, because we certainly won't have that on your bodies.

CC: Whom it may concern
From: Naples

As our first act in moving towards a democratic style government we would like to announce the reopening of the Italian National Press. Our great King Ferdinand II will protect the voice of the Italian people who choose to use this printing press! We will not close this press as it was before in Genoa, we will not allow oppression of our people or the Italian people. Naples supports all Italians no matter what nation they are in, we encourage all Italians to voice their opinions and stand up for what is right!

We must also declare war on the Empire. We are saddened by the Spain's inability to redress perfectly legitimate grievances. Spain's ineffectual support of the Colombian rebels did nothing but prolong an entrenched conflict that cost thousands of Colombian lives unnecessarily. Analysis of the cost of just the government's forces lost in that final year is ~150 EP, so the proposed reparations are indeed appropriate, and also quite affordable to the Empire. Your interference with the free nations of the Americas will no longer be tolerated, see you on the Atlantic.

To: The World
From: Brittany
CC: Spain

Anyways, Brittany would also like to jump on the bandwagon and declare war on Spain. Don't worry, we're just joking. We will remain neutral. If a ship has our flag, do not sink it. We will expect full compensation for every sunken ship plus 1 or 2 EP per ship, determined by ship size.

And you think that all those losses were caused by the troops the liberals could have trained with the 10 EP we sent them? Please, get real.

OOC: No different than the amount of EP requested by Spain from Naples? It's called an interference tax. :p

OOC: No different than the amount of EP requested by Spain from Naples? It's called an interference tax. :p

OOC: The difference is that the quantity of money Naples sent the Sicilians was great enough to affect the course of the rebellion. Not to mention that the money Spain requested from Naples was not an "interference tax", but forcing them to pay for the damages directly caused by their funding the rebellion. Even you cannot deny that the damage the number of troops trained with 10 EP could be very little with what the liberals trained with their own money.

We do not think that the number of troops recruited with 10 EP did that damage. But 10 EP in logistics and supplies to already entrenched troops in the coastal provinces certainly prolonged the conflict unnecessarily. We would like to remind the Empire that the reparations demanded by them with regards to Naples were not based upon Naples' investment, but upon the amount of troops Spain lost. Spain could have easily not saved their 10 EP by not intervening, their actions only cost lives needlessly.

@SamSniped; welcome aboard! There is some awaiting diplomacy above on the thread from Naples, but other than that, PM me if you have any questions. I'm more than happy to answer.

We demand that you recant your previous statement and shut down the new Italian press reopened! We will not permit Italian nationalism to destroy all we have accomplished as rulers over the past fifty years. Recant your support for their cause immediately, or face the consequences.

I am willing to visit your nation shortly, I just need to get a few things organized first. I also accept the offer of one of these automobile rides. It sounds very exciting, and I will arrive in Naples shortly.
