Capto Iugulum

to the Fraco-Burgundian Federation:
As our ally wishes.

to Brazil:
While we agree with you that Spain must pay up for the damage caused, your threats and embargo on our ally and his request leaves us no choice. We will lay an embargo on Brazil as long as the confederation does.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain backs the Brazilian ultimatum.

The Kingdom of Portugal does not support recent Brazilian actions and now supports Spain and the Confederation.

When the house burns the lapdogs will beg for scrap.

From: United States of America

The United States can no longer ignore the situation in its back yard that is quickly escalating into war. We make it clear that we find the Brazillian and British demands completely unreasonable, and the Spanish proposal to be much more sane. One might even suggest that the Brazilian and British demands are outright provocative and warmongering, and the ultimatum should make that clear to the world. With that said, we would be willing to join in the embargo. We are also, in the interest of peace, willing to contribute [10 EP] to the Spanish deal, not because we have any responsibility in the Colombian civil war but because we do not desire a war in our backyard.

But with that said, even though there is not a defensive pact between the Empire of Spain and the United States of America, we could not tolerate a war that would sorely disrupt the status quo in the Western Hemisphere, and we would come to the defense of the Empire of Spain.

To: All concerned parties

We agree with the statements made by the United States' ambassador. The ultimatum issued by Brazil, and endorsed by Britain is clearly a means to escalate tensions.

For this reason we join The Confederation's embargo against Brazil.

From: Flanders

As numerous crises threaten to engulf the world, Flanders will do its part to alleviate the pain by declaring itself open to refugees, provided that they can prove that they require refuge and are responsible citizens of their own country who are simply cursed with the misfortune of being caught in the middle of one of the world's many tragedies. Along with disaster and war refugees, Flanders will also accept political exiles as long as they do not threaten the stability of Flanders. This courtesy will only be extended for five years however, and after that time the refugee must either apply for citizenship or return to their home country, provided that the crisis has passed.

From: Brittany

Brittany, as Flanders is, is also accepting refugees. If they can prove that they are refugees from a country covered in war and oppression and are also not criminals, they will be entered into a refugee relocation program. People will be aided in starting a new life in Brittany with a steady flow of money for the first year. Refugees are allowed to leave whenever they feel like leaving, just like our citizens are. After 6 years of time however, the refugees will be given a choice. Either they would apply to become citizens which have good benefits including the right to vote for the leadership of Britanny, or to return to their home country.

From: Vinland

We note that the Vinland continues to accept immigrants and refugees of all stripes and origins. The broad prairies of the Vastermark, the verdant forests and stunning mountains of Haroldstad, and the thriving cities of Nya Sverige and Dammark present new opportunities for land and work, offering prosperity and liberty for all!

I believe it's probably a Kingdom of Seals, Sea Lions, and Penguins, if it's "ruled" by anybody.
OOC: And they shall fight to the death to defend it... or perhaps submit peacefully and infiltrate Brazil from within.

OOC: If someone asked me about my third favorite part of this nes, I'll say that it was Portugal and Persia reversing decade long policies on a whim

If someone asked me my favorite part of the nes, I'll say it was someone trying to create "Captain Persia" comics unironically

OOC: thanks. though I do point out I reversed those policies over the 50 year BT, and it was not on a whim.

@ Justo: Gentleman agreement that if you think your side is obviously going loses the war, you don't aim to drag it out to the bitter end?

@Milarqui: is there anyplace I can chat with to discuss plans for the war Vs. Arabia? It would be helpful to coordinate our actions.

I'll get diplos up later.

@Erez87, a quote from your orders: "-7 on looking for who is funding the nationalistic propaganda, and if he is found spend another 10 on getting rid of that influence and showing it out to the world." Shutting down the press is the only way to do the latter, that whole section was me doing exactly what you asked for. The nationalist stuff was funded and operated by the Italian National Press, therefore shutting it down was the only way to get rid of the influence.

@luckymoose: that island is owned by [Redacted] and they use it to monitor [Redacted] thanks to their [Redacted] and giant death [Redacted]. But for the time being, let's go with "Spain." In all seriousness, I do believe that it should have gone for them in the BT anyways after their colonization of St. Helena and the Falklands.

From: Colombia

We thank those of you who have supported our nation's proper government in its time of need. Elections will go forward as constitutionally mandated in 1906. For the time being, we agree with our allies that Spain must compensate our government for the prolonged conflict, particularly since the aid provided this year is the only aid publically acknowledged to have been given to the proletarist rebels by Spain. We are certain that their tampering went on since the beginning, and we will be expecting some form of compensation to emerge from negotiations between us, our allies, and the Spanish government.

To: Those Concerned
From: Uruguay and Paraguay

We hereby join in the united embargo against the Spanish and the Confederation alongside our friends in Britain and Brazil.

We are pleased that you are willing to do business. We will pay the full amount next year.

You are mistaken in your appreciation of the situation. Our help only numbered [10 EP], and it was only sent last year. Thus, we would appreciate if you corrected your previous statement.

I was obviously meaning find if any other country is financing them, and stop the financing. Obviously, a country that have been pushing freedom of speech, hard, won't stop a newspaper that's using that freedom of speech. But Ok. I'll build on that.

Is it really the only way to get rid of the influence? He could have surreptitiously bought them out and replaced their higher-level editing staff, or fabricated a story to discredit the newspaper in conjunction with a variety of other plans to silence that leading voice in pan-Italian nationalism. Ham-handed handling of the situation doesn't seem to be the only path, and certainly not the most prudent. Still, that's not to say that it's unfair- erez was vague, and the rough orders of a leader can be misinterpreted by those who implement them, and it does make for an interesting situation, as erez noted.

Denmark joins the Franco-Burgundian Confederation, the Netherlands, Genoa, the United States of America, Spain, and Portugal in embargoing Brazil. We hope that these actions will make the Brazilians see sense.
Stop playing such games of international brinkmanship, you will lose.

OOC: Great update EQ, hope your job interview went well :)

ooc: If EQ hasn't mentioned it yet, I'm going to be rejoining as Peru with the next update.

Glad to have you back Double A. They haven't really done much, they're still fairly friendly with everyone, though I believe I was still waiting on some diplomacy involving ship designs from Spain.

@Lord Iggy, yeah, you're right, could have been interpreted other ways, and I'll admit your way didn't occur to me.

Let that be a warning to all about the problem with vague orders. The clearer orders are, the more likely it'll be followed according to your specifications, for better or worse.

OOC: I don't even have major trade relations with most of them, and have no relations with the USA. However, a lack of my massive exports in coffee and sugar will surely effect your economies. :p
