Capto Iugulum

to Brittany:
from Italy

Please, do not be so rush. With more diplomatic work we can eventually make the league an open forum for all continentals and open to outside observers. For now it failed for the world have gone out of a great war, and trust is in short commodity. But things will improve and we will pass such a motion successfully in the future.

This is the 24 hour warning to get those orders in.

Brittany would like to note that the League of Continental Nations is not dedicated to peace. Otherwise, why would they hide what they are doing? Brittany condemns the League of Continental Nations and formally resigns.

If Brittany regards its membership within the League so trivially, we have little faith they would have put it to any decent or beneficial use. We're playing very tiny violins for you here in Stockholm.

The following pronouncements are by King Leopold IV of Flanders, Chairman of the League of Continental Nations, on behalf of the League:

The League has selected Antwerp, Netherlands as its Headquarters, and as such all General Assembly meetings shall be held in Antwerp, and each member and observer nation will have their special representative to the League stationed there.

The League has passed Resolution 001, the Resolution for the Independence of Sardinia and Corsica, wherein:

the entirety of the League officially guarantees the independence of Sardinia and Corsica from the wider Italian Republic, until such time as Sardinia and Corsica's own population wish to join.

1) The League of Continental Nations agrees to guarantee Sardinia and Corsica's independence from the Republic of Italy and the Kingdom of Naples, and any united Italian state thereof.
2) No nation on the Italian peninsula is to take military action with the intention of unification or territorial gain against Sardinia and Corsica without a majority approval from the League.
3) Sardinia's colony in Tunisia is to remain Sardinian unless the Sardinian government chooses to give it away for whatever reason.
4) Sardinia and Corsica may join the Italian republic if and only if the majority of the nation's population votes to do so in a free and open plebiscite attended by Spanish, Italian and Sardinian or Corsican observers.

The League has passed Resolution 002, The Resolution of Non-Intervention, wherein:

with the Treaties of Madrid and Tuileries now in effect, members of the League vow to avoid any political, economic or military intervention in the Western Hemisphere so long as the nations of the Western Hemisphere likewise do not interfere in Europe.

When that happens, we will happilly come back the the league. Until then, we will not rejoin.

The Confederation notes that, in spite of Resolution 001 of the League, no Confederate observers would be sent to monitor any such plebiscite if any such plebiscite occurred and any relevant party objected. Observers should be acceptable to all parties and alternative observers could presumably be substituted if it became necessary to do so.

EDIT: The Confederation thanks the Chair for amending the resolution so willingly and quickly, and our delegates apologise to our fellow-delegates for our unobservance earlier.

TO: League
FROM Brazil

No decisions can be made on Sardinia while they remain in a state of war with Brazil without directly breaking the treaty that most of the founding members of the league signed.

From: Spain

Spain notes that if the aims of the Allies in Sardinia are truly what they have stated before, that is;

Thirdly, we do not care to annex, disband, disbar, disrupt, or in any other way infringe upon the territorial integrity of Sardinia proper. We seek reparations for their attack on Brazil and an assurance that it will never happen again.

Then Resolution 001 would still be completely applicable.

Unless of course your aims are not what you say you are.

The decision is only against Italian attempts to conquer Sardinia, not Brazilian.

Our goals are to get reparations and see that Sardinia pays the right price for their backhanded attack on Brazilian sailors. We will hear no further comment on this from any loser in the recent Great War. Resolution 001 cannot be followed as it backs the safety of Tunis, which may or may not change hands when peace with Sardinia is fully realized. Now return to your little League, cry some more about your defeat at the hands of democracy and follow the treaty you signed.

To Brazil
From the Confederation

If that happened, then that would come under term (3), viz. that Sardinia would have chosen, by signing your proposed peace treaty, to give away Tunis.

The following pronouncements are by King Leopold IV of Flanders, Chairman of the League of Continental Nations, on behalf of the League:

The League has passed Resolution 003, the Resolution for Delay on the Italian Question, wherein:

there should be a ceasefire in Italy between the Italian Republic and the Pope and between the Pope and Naples for the duration of this year, so that peace can be discussed at greater length next year.

From: Empire of Scandinavia
To: Concerned Parties

It is noted that the Empire of Scandinavia abides by "Resolution 002" to the exclusion of the Kingdom of Vinland, whereby it is agreed we are endowed with the rights to maintain the "special relationship" between Scandinavia and Vinland and provide whatever aid, succor, etc. that we may consider appropriate or Vinland may request or be interested in, as well as maintain all existing ties.

OOC: I'm not entirely certain it is wise, for purposes of avoiding spam, to post all and any declarations the League makes.

OOC: If you do not post them, we can't know, thus your organization is not about peace but about war.

to the Papal States and Naples:
As we wish to abide by our friends (and non-friends) in the league we wish to sign a ceasefire with both of you, as long as you sign one among yourselves. The ceasefire will last for one single year at the end of which we will return to the diplomatic table, and then decide if we will continue our ceasefire or move to more violent methods to free those who wish for the rule of the Republic.

to Brittany:
Please! Reconsider! Together we can build a peaceful continent, but only together. Do not run away when things get tough, please. Besides, as you can see, the motions passed are put on the front page of the world.

OOC: There's no point in resolving things if we don't post them. If we really want to pass a secret motion we can do so and include that in the terms of the motion, but as a routine matter I think League Resolutions are an excellent use of thread space.

At this time, we will refuse to join such league as there are members, and invitees, that we do not wish to work with.

To: The Papal States
From: Naples

If you do not agree to the Freidman Proposal then we will not agree to a ceasefire with you and continue our war to free the Italian people. Then when it is over you will not be allowed to have Rome and the Italian Republic and ourselves will work out a way to unite Italy. At this time there is still a WAR between the Papal States and Naples

To: The Italian Republic
From: Naples

We would like to come to a cease fire with your nation for the duration of a year as you proposed and then determine what will come next.
