Quick update on our newest addition.
After a few cat kisses, mutual butt sniffing and cat napping curled together, I deem that they are friends enough that they won't kill each other.
Jubilation has erupted in our household.

I managed to accidentally teach my cats to spell. In an attempt to prevent them from following me around meowing when saying "treats," I've taken to asking my mother if she already gave them some t-r-e-a-t-s. Now they're following me around meowing whenever I spell it out.
