I really don't get it. Do you want us to return to the stone age ?

Erik Mesoy said:The whole "let's cripple humanity so that it will be harmless" argument offends me.
tomsnowman123 said:I never said "let's cripple humanity." I just think we need to consider where we are as a species and implement some vast changes.

Bozo Erectus said:I know you arent a dummy, but you dont seem to understand how complex life is. You believe that because you were able to accomplish something, that means that everyone, everywhere, regardless of the infinite number of ways their situation differs from yours, should be able to accomplish the same things. What everyone with this view fails to realize is that the same question can be turned on them. Bill Gates worked hard, and today he's worth $50 billion. Compared to Bill Gates, Nano, are you lazy? Do you lack determination? Is Bill Gates a better human being than you are?
You can call me every name in the book, but do me a favor, dont call this kid stupid, you dont know him, and he isnt here to defend himself, and this 'stupid' kid, is now on his way to Iraq. I dont know all the details of his personal economic situation, but I know that his isnt an isolated situation. Unlike alot of the people here, I actually know members of the growing 'working poor' class.
I'd like to know who is defined as being "rich" and who is "poor." I think I'd much rather be a person with a low income today than I would in the 1970s.tomsnowman123 said:The fact is that the gap between the rich and the poor in the US is increasing rapidly. I find it hard to believe that everybody that is poor has a fair opportunity, or else this gap would not be increasing at the rate that it is currently.

I also resent your implying that people with lower incomes need assistance to survive. I don't want your pity or your condescending attitude towards lower income Americans.
Cheezy the Wiz said:This is why we need a flat tax, based on percentage of income. Imagine what that could do for us
tomsnowman123 said:The gap is increasing. I do not have a condescending view towards the poor, I just have a view that many of them are put into tough situations. We can help them out. Wealth tax and inheritance tax are just some of the things that could help.
Cheezy the Wiz said:its fair too, thats what's so great ( other than being a simplified tax system). I mean, lets say taxes are a simple number like 33% of your income. If I make 100K a year, thats 33,333 dollars i pay out. If I make 15k a year, that 5K i pay out, not really that bad.
You know what, Tom, you and I ought to run for President. Co-President kinda thing. I'll take care of the foreign plicy mostly, and you mostly do the domestic policy, with some overlapping of course. And don't worry, I'm not as bad as you think at the warmongering. I'd at least wait to be attacked or being asked to help before absolutely crushing our enemies.
Whatya say?
blackheart said:It's true that the rich are getting richer whilst the poor are getting poorer, but exactly how is an inheritance even fair, how does it help out the poor? And what's a wealth tax?
Cheezy the Wiz said:yea i saw it. Thats the thing though, if we agreed all the time, where would we get? Conflicting opinions are absolutely necisarry(sp?) to the functioning of government. That's why cronyism is so bad, you just get yesmen, and no one to stand there and say "this is a bad idea" or " why dont we do this?"
SO you and I diagreeing is what makes us better leaders.
I want your persmission before I post our campaign thread in OT
tomsnowman123 said:These taxe would help create a living wage, and we need to gurantee everybody the right to a job. My idea of wealth tax would be to enact a steeply progressive tax on net wealth over $2.5 million (about the top 5% of households or so).
