Chris Christie is in Trouble

Heather Locklear is a Republican. So is Buffy the vampire slayer. I could vote for a heather / buffy ticket.

Yeah, realized it right after I hit the post button.

Time to throw my weight around and have these threads forcibly merged into one lane.

EDIT: Sad I'm going to lose the tags.

Moderator Action: Threads and Tags merged.

Christie is just another hack, as was said here.

Not even one of the hacks who can mind covering up what they are, either.

Politicians being "enraged" when people bring up their sending their kids to private schools while ruining public school for the other children? Yeah, he has it sooo tough. Politicians are supposed to be public servants, not kings.
Not burger kings either.

It. doesn't. matter. Kids are off limits. Besides, I can't think of a single politician at or above a gubernatorial position that sends their children to public schools. I imagine some exist. I can't imagine why they would.

And reporters typically ask if they're in public or private schools. He could have calmly told her his kids are "off limits", but he reacted like a bully.

After reading the actual article, it's not "he or his cronies". It's "maybe his cronies" or "maybe sordid humor".

See how this garbage gets spun? FFS

Aint no maybe about it, some of his cronies are gone and he's in trouble

Plainly a case of too much power in too few people. This kind of disruption shouldn't be enabled by aides.

It seems to me that noone is having a go at the kids, but this guys decision to not send them to the schools he "runs". This comes up a few times in the UK, never has any lasting effect though.

If he had the confidence to say something like "I do the best I can with the resources available but I want my kids to have better" then I would have some sympathy. When he just gets stropy when asked why his job is not good enough for his kids then it is hard to feel sorry for the guy.

edit: ah, I looked at the other thread. NYT. Why am I not surprised.

NYT pay David Brooks & Thomas Friedman (a hack if ever there was one) millions of dollars. What makes you think they care about Chris Christie's political career?

It. doesn't. matter. Kids are off limits.

That's very convenient, especially when politicians are so quick to use them as speech fodder.

As far as the actual issue...I am tired as hell of Maddow talking about this incessantly. Literally almost every single day, when they are dozens of things she could be using her journalistic skills towards. Or hell, she could try standing up for the people in her own company trying to unionize and being treated like dirt by her employers. She has remained conspicuously silent on that.

Maybe there is some smoke here, but for now it comes off as an extremely transparent character assassination of Christie to improve Hillary's chances. Outside of a few hosts, MSNBC really is just an extension of the Democratic Party now.

If kids are off-limit then why are they always hoisted on the stage or used in arguments like "I don't want my kids to have to pay for ...."

Mind, I completely agree with the sentiment, but don't be a hypocrite about it.

(Generally speaking. Don't know wether Christy trots out his kids for photo-ops)

Afterthought: the kids didn't send themselves to private school, nor did they cut funding. So this outrage is a load of bollocks.

I listened to all of the press conference live on WNYC (have I mentioned lately how much I love my public radio station?).

I thought Christie handled this perfectly, and I genuinely believe him. Perhaps I'm naive, but I think he's doing everything right here.

The thin veneer of pseudo-honesty from Chris Christie is finally wearing off? One should invariably be skeptical when any politician tries to claim the moral high ground so much, especially a Republican.

John Stewart was incredible tonight on this topic. Well, I think he's usually pretty funny anyway, but on this, he was especially funny. You can catch it again in about 1hr 45 min on comedy central.
Now that is a pleasant surprise. I certainly didn't take you for a Jon Stewart / Daily Show fan. :goodjob:

Chris Christie is quite literally a scumbag:

FORT LEE – Emergency responders were delayed in attending to four medical situations – including one in which a 91-year-old woman lay unconscious – due to traffic gridlock caused by unannounced closures of access lanes to the George Washington Bridge, according to the head of the borough’s EMS department.

The woman later died, borough records show.

In at least two of those instances, response time doubled, noted EMS coordinator Paul Favia, who documented those cases in a Sept. 10 letter to Mayor Mark Sokolich, which The Record obtained.

On Sept. 9, the first day of the traffic paralysis, EMS crews took seven to nine minutes to arrive at the scene of a vehicle accident where four people were injured, when the response time should have been less than four minutes, he wrote.

It also took EMS seven minutes to reach an unconscious 91-year-old woman who later died of cardiac arrest at a hospital. Although he did not say her death was directly caused by the delays, Favia noted that “paramedics were delayed due to heavy traffic on Fort Lee Road and had to meet the ambulance en-route to the hospital instead of on the scene.”

Emergency responders also were late in getting to a third medical emergency that first morning of the lane closures. It took Favia nearly an hour to arrive at a building where a person was experiencing chest pains “due to standstill traffic on Route 46 East. The Mutual Aid ambulance coming from Palisades Park and paramedics coming out of Leonia were also delayed due to the excessive traffic,” he wrote.

Delays in emergency response times continued the next morning when a call that should have taken three or four minutes to respond to took seven, Favia wrote. In that instance, a man was experiencing chest pains.

Doesn't matter, he's just going to be Hillary Fodder anyways.

I agree. Hillary is inevitable, just like when she won the nomination handily in 2008 and beat Rudy Giuliani who was inevitable and won the Republican primary

I'm frankly getting tired of people anointing her and refusing to in any way shape or form criticize. It'll be like that leftist cartoonist who got shut out for drawing Obama in a "racist" way(because characters in political cartoons normally aren't drawn cartoonishly?) said; "sexism will be the new racism". I've been called sexist for making jokes about Hillary when I've made them about John Edwards, Newt Ginrich, John Sununu, Barney Frank, etc. and no one cared although to be fair anyone who makes a pantsuit joke probably does deserve to get run over with a steamroller because those actually DO feel sexist.

protip: don't do it about Obama though, you'll end up getting put to bed without dessert like Maureen Dowd did when she joked about his ears. :(

Hillary has been a key part of an administration doing a lot of things that have driven liberals themselves nuts and yet they want us to believe she's not a typical politician? She's no more trustworthy or an "outsider" than Newt Gingrich. Do they not see the irony of complaining about drone strikes and all the bad Bush policies that Obama has continued/ramped up and yet spout #hillary2016 like she'll be completely different?

Frankly the field out there makes me want to cry, there's nobody I'd get excited about at all from a policy or leadership standpoint. The only good thing about them is how ridiculous they all look. Bernie Sanders looks like Doc from BTTF, Ted Cruz is a marginally less ugly Quentin Tarantino, Christie looks like Steve Schirripa or the Stay Pufft Marshmellow Man, and Hillary...any comment about her will get the rest of this post will be ignored and cause cries of sexism so you can just pretend this is a CYOA and put your own comment in there.

I have a bigger problem with (MS)NBC's dumbass producers who approve all this stuff. -Wanna talk about pooping in Sarah Palin's mouth? Go ahead, Martin.
-Make fun of the black adopted grandkid? Sure, why not?
-Want to hide a black person's face to pretend he's white so a bunch of privileged jackasses can talk about the crazed white people and their guns? Sounds great! -Doctor the Travon Martin 911 call to make it sound racist? Push the narrative!
-Accuse people of not wanting to help welfare recipients because of racism even though there are actually more white people on welfare than black? Keep stirring the pot!
-Want to ignore all the minority speakers at the RNC in order to instead have a panel of white people talk about how there's no minorities? Yeah we can sign off on that.
-Have a privileged white jackass(O'Donnell) play Torquemada and grill a black man (Herman Cain) about the civil rights movement and the Vietnam war which he didn't fight only because the Navy wanted to use him in another role? GO FOR IT

This is quality journalism here, folks, we could all learn a thing or two. I need to find the fantastic articles Kevin Williamson and Charles Cooke have written about that nuthouse.

I've given up trying to watch Maddow and Schulz(or hell, cable news period) to get the other side's story, especially Schulz. I think Maddow's perpetual smugness actually started to damage my television screen. I do appreciate that MSNBC exists, though, if only to prove that people who want to brag about how they're "open minded" are only such in the sense that there's a lot of wide open space.

^Hillary won't be president in 2016. Obama might (yeah, i know about that term issue, which is the point).

Not that i doubt that Hillary would be at least equally horrible. Obama=Bush=Hillary seems largely correct, with only a small margin for error.

What do you think?
