Civ VII Weekly Reveal Guessing Thread

I believe Assyria, Tonga and Goths are pretty sure bets. I think the fourth one will be a civ for Notre Dame.
It will be two of Assyria/Tonga/Goths, the Oxford University Civ (Britain/England) and I think the Pyramid of the Sun Civ (Aztecs)

At least that would be my guess. Two Frances is perfectly viable, but in a game that already has Normans and a fairly small roster for now, I doubt the kingdom of France is high on the list of priorities.

Ben Franklin unlocking France instead (surprise!!!)
Considering he was the US ambassador to France for a short time, it would not be a bad alternative Modern Civ for him to pick in games where Tubman is also present.

In the livestream they mentioned that playing as Harriet Tubman unlocked America, but what about Ben Franklin? Maybe their only civ lock is Hawaii, for the base game, and then the other way is through the two leaders?

Because that would make more sense than Germany/Prussia having no civ pathway.
I’m pretty sure both Tubman and Franklin unlock America. I was strictly referring to hypothetical civ unlocks in my comment.

Pyramid of the Sun isn't an Aztec wonder though. Burma also has a wonder in the Exploration Age.

They’ve already set a precedent with Borobudur, which is not actually a Majapahit wonder, but that of their predecessors. So it’s not completely out of question.

Isn't Pyramid of the Sun in Antiquity? It can't be the Aztec wonder.

I'm not aware of any wonders that the Majapahit did build, and Borobudur is the most wonderous structure found in Indonesia. As far as the Aztecs go they were released last game in the DLC with the Huey Teocalli, so no reason that can't return.
Plus, the Pyramid of the Sun is an Antiquity wonder, and presumably the Aztecs would be in Exploration anyways. :)

Derp, I just assumed it was in Exploration :crazyeye:

I've noticed this as well. Burma would be a weird, left-field pick to include this early into the game, but it would be a welcome choice.

Personally, I think the appeal for a Burma is more its leaders (Bayinnaung and Anawrahta to name two), and its Civilization. But I wouldn't mind an Exploration alternative to Majapahit in South East Asia.

I'm not betting on Burma now, because the historical path of Southeast Asia is already quite complete.

I'd rather they focus now on giving an Andean predecessor to the Incas and better tying together the African historical paths.

I don't think we can be certain that every civ needs to be unlocked by another. It's possible that gameplay and leader unlocks are sufficient. Especially if gameplay unlocks are fairly easy to attain. With Frederick, Catherine and Charlemagne, Germany/Prussia could have as many as three leader unlocks, so there could be plenty of ways to get to them even without the Normans.
The free unlocks also seems an indication for the AI to take to that civ, so some only having a leader unlock may result in them being around way too rarely... Albeit I guess with America having two leaders specific for it, more than any other, that could be enough for them to appear as often as other moderns civ on the base game, considering I'm guessing the two will always pick America if available.

It's possible. My impression is that the AI tends to favour the civs labeled "Historical Choice!" and marked with a portrait icon, which don't always align with civ unlocks. Augustus, for instance, gets them for Rome, Spain, Abbasids and probably Greece, despite Rome not unlocking the Abbasids (though Greece may do). Hatshepsut gets them for Egypt, Aksum and probably Songhay and Abbasids. If other leaders also get around two of those per Age, then they should usually have at least one option open to them, and it would explain Ashoka's seemingly equal preference between Maurya, Khmer, Chola and Siam, and maybe Mughals and Majapahit. Civ unlocks may play a secondary role.
I BTW don't think we know that the AI is bound by the same unlock requirements as players, but as long as the leader unlocks are there, it should be fine either way.

I see what you did there.

And horses. And horses provide Catherine’s cities with extra happiness. 😏
Horses provide the Palace with extra happiness…but perhaps horses “distract” the leader from the stupid oppressive things they otherwise do…happiness for everyone.
