Civ4 Beyond the Sword Patch v3.17 is out

newbie question: The 3.17 patch requires the previous patchs?

Example: To install the 3.17 patch, i would need the 3.13 patch?

thanks in advance:goodjob:

This may not be the fault of anyone in connection with the game or the patch, but if you try to patch without enought space, it still fills the space you have and thus requires ANOTHER 170 mb in order to work properly. I got so annoyed at this that I ended up deleting a 7 gb game because no matter how many small 300 mb programmes I deleted, it seemed like the patch filled the space. Just my bitter :gripe: after having used more than an hour of an evening to make this work. It might be Windows' fault though...

AFAIK the patch file that is downloaded is compressed. This means that space is needed for the downloaded patch file plus at least the same again plus a certain percentage for the uncompressed software. In the end I'm afraid it's a matter of checking that there is plenty of free space before downloading the patch.

For the text issues, follow the steps from r_rolo1 in this post. If that doesn't do it, I would rename your CustomAssets folder and reinstall BUG.

I did this, but still get TXT_KEY_PLAYER . . .
(Not a big deal I guess, it does not affect gameplay)

It is not needed. Go to my games costumassets folder and search for CIV4GameText_BTS.xml file ( it is in Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\CustomAssets\XML\Text ) and delete it.

Tried this also, but the file is not there to delete.

I'm using BAT MOD (Which does include the newest version of BUG). (.008)

Ahh, no. BAT hasn't been updated with the latest BUG yet. Look in "Mods/BAT Mod/Assets/XML/Text" and delete the "CIVGameText_BTS.xml" file if you want, but we should be updating BAT with the next release of BUG.

I installed the new xml file that you made, rolo; and in conjuction with deleting the file in the mods/bat mod/assets/xml/text, problem solved. Thanks guys. I think I'm going to head over and get BUG though, I just assumed BAT had the newest BUG. Anyway, Thanks Guys!

I've read through most of this thread and haven't seen a clear answer to the question of whether I should expect any problems if I install the patch overtop of Bhruic's unoffical 3.13 patch?

Thanks!

I downloaded the patch from fileshack, but couldn't extract from the zip because there was a problem reading the file? I don't know if it is just on my end or if there is a problem with the source file. Just thought I would mention it. I am trying from gamershell now.

As was noted already, the only game-play issue atm is Barrage for units that can't natively do Collateral damage (Armored, + other units in Next War). Solver's patch fixes the Barrage bug. His patch will be updated shortly to fix the display issue of showing you Worst Enemies of CIVS you haven't met (thats a spoiler, not a game breaker). Along with whatever else crops up. The issues haven't been that many for the most part.

Bear in mind some Mods aren't compatible (yet), 34CIV Map Mod needs to be recompiled etc.

To be clear, it would probably be unwise to patch over a Bhruic's patch. Just replace the files with the original 3.13 files before you patch to 3.13.

I get issues if I try to load games now from the Bhruic patch so I would assume there is no compatibility really.

I've been looking forward to this latest official patch, as I haven't ever used an unofficial patch update. Then I find out about the broken barrage on tanks! Looks like I'll be holding off using this latest patch until there is an official fix to this - tanks without barrage to me is a major problem. What I have against unofficial patches is that I'm paranoid of possible broken balance issues, and possible problems then with later official patches.

What I have against unofficial patches is . . . possible problems then with later official patches.

You can easily uninstall the unofficial patches released by Solver and Bhruic by removing their DLL and replacing it with the original official one. Just rename the original before applying the unofficial patch (copying a file).

I highly recommend Bhruic's patch for 3.13. The 50 :strength: spearman rocks! :spear:

I upgraded from 3.13 to 3.17 and had no problems starting and playing a new
game.

But when I tried to load our 3.13 PBEM game into 3.17, it said:

The save file you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in
your mod folder have not been changed

and

Load failed

Does anybody know how to upgrade an old game to be able to load it
into 3.17? It is a straight game, not based on a scenario or mod.

I would like to continue this PBEM game and still start a new 3.17 Pitboss
game, without having to run two installations of BTS.

Best regards,

You have to send it to a computer which has 3.13, resave it without the admin password, send it back, load it in 3.17, and resave with the admin password again.

Hmm I guess I can't take that chance. In my current game I'm playing as the roman. Isreal is surrounded by Suddam Hussein, Adolph Hitler and the Iranians.

Yep, about our (Jews') usual luck.

I got it working. Now, just for asking, does anyone know why the siege units have been denied access to the Combat promotion line? I know this is intended, but I can't really see why it is necessary?
