Civ4 Beyond the Sword Patch v3.17 is out

I got it working. Now, just for asking, does anyone know why the siege units have been denied access to the Combat promotion line? I know this is intended, but I can't really see why it is necessary?

They must have thought siege units were unbalanced for weakening armies in the field. I think so too, although now I'll just give my field siege units barrage instead.
 
To be clear, it would probably be unwise to patch over a Bhruic's patch. Just replace the files with the original 3.13 files before you patch to 3.13.

I get issues if I try to load games now from the Bhruic patch so I would assume there is no compatibility really.

I'm not worried really about previous games not working. I'm just wondering if it will create problems going forward. Should I uninstall and reinstall with a fresh patch?
 
Ok auto-update does not show a progress screen and does not seem to do anything except tell me that i'm not allowed to go anywhere until patching is complete. (waited for over 40 minutes).

I downloaded from the links in the first post of this thread (15 min until complete), but then the patch tells me it cannot detect a previous version of civ4 BTS ???

I have the steam version is there a seperate patch for that?
 
Same as offworld, but didn't try outside of advanced/check for updates. There a reason for this?

Well unless you are using his supplementary patch files as well, his patch is only one file - the CvGameCoreDLL file. When you patch this will be overwritten anywa, if I understand correctly. However if you have the unofficial patch in your CustomAssets folder I'd imagine you'd get problems when running the game.

It doesn't take one minute to remove Bhruic's patch and 3.17 includes most of his fixes anyway, so I'm not sure why it's even an issue.
 
Very good!

  • Gunships can Flank Attack Cannons, Artillery, Mobile Artillery
  • Horse archers no longer receive attack bonus against Trebuchets
  • Machine Gun and Anti-Tank get 20% air interception chance
  • Bunkers also protect against collateral damage from air units
  • Players get an announcement when a Defensive Pact is signed
  • Added popup for when spaceship mission fails

I hope 3.17 includes the changes made to inflation as v3.13 did (sry if any of this was explained earlier)

Inflation no longer increases after the game time limit has been reached
Adjusted corporation maintenance for inflation
Corporation Headquarters give 4 gold per corporation city to balance corporation immunity to inflation

I can't imagine why you'd think it wouldn't.
 
Another bug (May be it happened to someone else?):
When clicking "Event log" button or pressing "Ctrl+Tab" or "Ctrl+Shift" the game just crashes. And only thing, that could be done, is to terminate it from Task Manager. Event log worked fine in 3.13. And I have no mod or unofficial patches installed.
By the way, I also have old-style roads in industrial era.
 
The save file you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not been changed

That sounds more like you turned on "Lock Modified Assets" when starting your game, and the game is detecting that the assets have changed (DLL and a couple Python files).

If the problem isn't the admin password as Wodan suggested, I don't see any other solution but to run two installations.
 
Is anyone else seeing some clunky worker animations with this patch? For instance, when the camera pans to a worker who just finished a mine, he'll get stuck in his digging animation until I give him another order, rather than stopping and standing idle. There was even a time when I gave him a move order and the animation partially froze; his pick was locked in mid-swing, even while he ran to his destination.

It does this with pretty much every action, too. The mining thing is just one example.
 
I don´t like the stealth destroyer changes. Actually I think they should have designed it as an advanced destroyer from the beginning (higher cost, harder to detect, and actually slightly better anti-air and anti-submarine values compared to an older destroyer because that would better reflect how destroyers of stealth design work). Since modern smaller warships (corvettes, frigattes and destroyes only have one medium canon, bombardment values should be lower (even though they have high rates of fire and advanced ammunition). Bombardments today are mostly done with airstrikes and cruise missiles from subs and larger ships.

The "no inteception" for stealth destroyers is crap.

The other changes are pretty good I think. I like to use espionage but lot of people think it´s annoying so that´s cool.

And on a sidenote: I´m still waiting for boomers and SSGN´s (modern nuclear/cruise missile-carrying submarines).

Agreed. Now stealth destroyers are less useful than the early model. Primitive anti-infantry machine guns can shoot down planes but advanced destroyers can't? Who actually cares about the "stealth" ability for a destroyer, I'd much rather have a visible destroyer with enhanced anti-sub and anti-air capabilities. Tomorrow Never Dies wasn't even a good movie.

I will, thank you kindly. But it would be nice if naval anti-aircraft capabilities improved with technology, as per the new SAM unit. The fact that aircraft can't sink ships mildly defuses the issue though.

steam updates automagically in its own time - you don't even get a choice. neither the ingame autoupdater nor the downloadable patches will work for steam.

True. I think the stealth destroyer should just be an advanced version of a destroyer. The technology and is different than the older destroyers but in navies they are used for the same pupose - ecort, patrols, sub-hunts and limited anti-air. It was the same when siege guns replaced trebuchets. They both launch projectiles but the technologies behind are different. And then the siege-gun became a canon and finally the sp-art of today. The technology is new but the purpose is the same.

Like I wrote earlier, an improved destroyer thats harder to detect. If you can´t afford the expensive upgrade, don´t have the tech or simply don´t give a flying **** about naval warfare keep the old ones.



Come to think of it I miss stealth fighters in Civ 4.
