When I try to download it, a download window does not appear,and when I try to leave it says it can not exist while it is downloading. I left it for about an hour and the same message appeared when I tried to exit. So then I figured I would re-install the game, no luck there, because it is unable to uninstall. This is probably due to the modding I have done to the game. Any help?

Download the updater from the links in the first post of this thread rather than the in-game updater. It's the same thing but muck more reliable.

Hi. I need help. The BTS patch has COMPLETELY RUINED MY CIV GAME.
This is very frustrating. Patches should not do this.
I can load BTS. When I attempt to load the HOF 3.17 patch, the game cuts out to an error message.
Can ANYONE provide me any help on this?
I can't re-install vanilla civ4. I lost the first disc. I have warlords and BTS CD's
I have uninstalled bTS and reinstalled. twice. I install 3.17 from the CFC links provided, not from in game
BTS HOF 3.16 worked fine

what is the error message? just checking: BtS without the mod runs fine, right?
Well, there's your problem. If you've messed up your game files, you're screwed because you can't reinstall. You need to buy Civ4 again. (Or hope you can sort things out this time, and pray you don't mess them up again.)
I downloaded the updater from one of the links and I can't get it to install. A single 168MB file was downloaded, but it is not an executable. How do I install the update once it is downloaded?

If it's not an executable, what is it? ZIP? 7Z? What's the full name of the file? What does double-clicking it do?
When I click on it I get a message that says:
"Choose a program that you want to use to open this file"
Then a list of programs appears below it including Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, all of the MS Office programs, etc.
edit: It's not an archive like zip or rar either because winrar did not recognize it.

Can you right-click it, select Properties, and then copy and paste the full name with the extension here?

I have tried to download the patch from all 6 sites but my record is 19%! It keeps freezing...as I have a problematic broadband connection in Thailand. I believe none of these mirrors have the resume function. Could someone explain the best way to safely download the patch with resume function? Please provide a website and a program I should install if necessary. Also please don't abbreviate terms in your reply as I won't have any idea what you are talking about.

I've tried to download by just clicking the 'check for updates' and I left that for like 5 hours but it didn't work. I also tried downloading it from a couple of the sites but they never worked either...am I just being impatiant or is it not working? What should I do?

1. Now I am still playing the very first civilization 4 version. All I have to to is to download BTS, install it and it will be upgraded? It is some kind of adding new features to old civ4?
2. If I will download and install BTS 3.17 patch is it necessary to install all the older pathes as well? Or 3.17 will have all the features of older patches as well (like 3.13 in firaxis.com)
3. Where is it possible to download that 3.17 patch?

ou, and one more question. Is BTS, Warlord and Gold is kind 3 choices I can make or they all have different features and you can update you civ4 with all of them? Am kinda new at this and I've never updated my games before. Thank you very much for getting me into this a bit
