Civ4 Beyond the Sword Patch v3.17 is out

Nothing there.

Hey...

On my last attempt I found a file ThemeParseLog.txt with the following content:

So... that HUD file has two semicolons missing (both after a = .Default), but that was always there. The missing font definitions were, for reasons unknown, commented out, also not likely to be fatal.

Will correct and check nonetheless...

Alas, that makes no difference.

I patched the updater and I cannot drag units to designate moves. Now I have to click "go to" and click again at the destination. Is this a part of the changes or just some sort of bug?

AFAIK you have never been able to drag units to make moves. Instead, with the unit(s) you want to move selected, simply right-click the destination. This is equivalent to clicking "Go To" and left-clicking the destination.

How do I tell what revision I have installed please?
It's been a while (thanks to work) ad I have completely forgtten.

you only need 3.17

FAQ: Patching Sid Meier's Civilization 4: Beyond the Sword

Q: I logged into the Beyond the Sword lobby and received a message that I need to download a game patch before I can play online. Should I download the patch from within the lobby?

A: No. Although you have received this message because your game is not currently up-to-date, unfortunately the patch does not download properly in the Civilization 4 Lobby.

Q: Well, then how can I patch the game and play online again?

A: First, close your game by exiting the game or pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE and using the "END TASK" function to close Civilization 4. The particular patch that you now need to download depends on where you purchased the game.

Q: Where should I get the patch if I bought Beyond the Sword from a store?

A: Click here to download the Beyond the Sword 3.17 Patch.

Q: Where should I get the patch if I bought Beyond the Sword from Direct2Drive?

A: Click here to access Direct2Drive's patch directory. Search for the Beyond the Sword 3.17 Digital Distribution patch and download it.

Q: Where should I get the patch if I bought Beyond the Sword from Steam?

A: Steam should have automatically patched your game before it loaded. If you bought Beyond the Sword from Steam and cannot play multiplayer, contact them using their Support page. Most likely, you will need to fully reinstall Beyond the Sword to fix this (rare) problem.

Q: Where should I get the patch if I have an illegal copy of BTS?

A: Click here to download a compatible patch for illegal copies of Beyond the Sword.

thanks to JbAdams for these tips!

I thought this would be a good place to ask

I decided to get back into Civilization and installed my Civ 4 Gold and BTS and then got the official 3.17 patch from filefront

Now i have tried playing for more than 5 minutes without the game freezing/crashing sometimes it needs a restart sometimes it gives that windows error thingy asking if i want to send the report,

Nothing seems to trigger the crash, it just happens withing every 5 or 10 minutes of play start

I tried reinstalling and downloading patches again and hunting down every file on my pc and getting rid of them, these are problems I have never had before with Civilization 4, the first issues ever

The only thing thats peculiar is the first time i went to install Civ 4 Gold back on Saturday was that it said one of the asset packs was corrupted (number 6?) but I started over and in the 4 or so times i have reinstalled i havent had that problem again (so it was the first and last time i ever had an issue installing)

Are there issues with this official patch? Should i ditch it and get the unofficial one instead?

Have you tried a game without patching to see if it lasts longer than 5 or 10 minutes? You could try the 3.13 patch as well. First, isolate the cause, then fix.

The Unofficial Patch requires the official patch as well (it's a patch to the patch making it like 3.17.1 really). The UP fixes gameplay bugs, but no crashes AFAICT, and thus shouldn't affect your situation.
