CivCon 09

Will the convention be a good place to meet women?

I'm sure some dudes will dress up as Boudica and Izzy, but I think that'll be about it. :)

I wonder what the demographic ratio of men to women are for CIV. Men on average spend more time on video games then women in general, I think The Sims is the only comercial game that has a higher percentage of female users then male (though women do play alot of the little internet boggle type games, I'm talking about games that you purchase). So already the demographics would be skewed. Still though, I think god type empire games like Civ would appeal more to men then women in general, so I'd wager the demographics are even more tilted for Civ, then for your typical side scroller or wii game for instance.

Unfortunately, I doubt Firaxis would share their polling data if they have done any on the subject. I'd be curious to see, though. Just stabbing at the dark, I'd wager around 8% of CIV players are female, but that number is completely pulled out of my ass. Still I'd wager that if over 100 people show up to CivCon there will be a couple women among them.

I will raise it with the Committee for a definitive answer (I'm only an adviser to them), but I have a strong feeling that they won't be discouraged. :D
In follow-up and further to my comment above on costumes, they are not discouraged. Just recognize that this isn't really the sort of conference that many people are likely to be wearing them.

quite interested and just a hop down I95.

Whoa, DanQ, you joined on Oct 24 2000? That's before Thunderfall.

If you notice, he is member #9. TF was using a test/admin account when he set up the board, and only after he was satisfied with the setup did he create his "Thunderfall" account. He then deleted that earlier test account (and reset the Thunderfall account to user #1).

Just as long as he isn't Client #9.

Sorry about being off topic.

But still, member #9, wow ... Dan please send me a PM telling me how small CivF was.

Allright, back on topic.

Well, is there a particlar time of year companies like to announce new games?

E3 but that has gone a bit lame in the last few years.

I would love to join you, but i live in Denmark, and it's not possible for me to go to Maryland.
But i will look foward to hearing a review from it, and if it is legal, people, take a cam with you XD

Hopefully this is when they show Civ5 Preview!
I doubt it, but I suppose anything is possible. :D

I can appreciate that. If this event were being held in Europe, it would be too cost prohibitive for me to be able to attend (short of some sort of sponsorship).

Yes, part of the plan is to have as much of the event filmed as possible as well as photographed and documented otherwise (i.e. text).
