[LP] Civilization VI: Leader Pass - Discussion Thread

I think you will be qualified even if you purchased NFP as separate packs. The persona pack of NFP was the bonus contents for purchasing NFP as a whole, I don't think it counts towards the qualification in this case.
Really hope so.

Anyway, I'm a bit annoyed we're getting a new Leader Pass and I still can't purchase Teddy or Catherine Personas. I get them being for free for NFP buyers, but why can't I just purchase it? Only way is to buy the Pass, but €15 for two personas is absurd.

Things I am excited about:
Pack 1: a version of Saladin that maybe isn't a religiously motivated aggressor
Pack 2: a version of Suleiman who maybe gets a little cultural
Pack 3: Yongle as a science/builder, hopefully
Pack 4: RAMSES
Pack 5: Ludwig, probably a cultural builder
Pack 6: What they do for Liz? Steampunk Vicky. What will Varangian Harald bring to the table?
I can't help but wonder, simply because this has been a year in production, if they brought in Harald's VA to record new lines (since he historically wouldn't be spouting off about Odin). But chances are, it's just a reskin like the others.

You're confused about people who like the game's base mechanics being excited about new content?

I'll be upset if there are no meaningful patches.
I dont like this addition as the base mechanics arent patched. If you, or others, like it, fine. No problem. But I was hoping for more.

They didn't record new lines when they did the Catherine and Teddy personas so there is no guarantee that they'll do new recordings for the new personas either.

Now that I think about it, I am not sure why they decided on making alt leaders and not new civs. I think in the pass, when new civs were announced, there was considerably more hype than alt leaders, and I think the devs know this. The reason is quite simple, new civ has 4 new abilities to play with, alt leader most likely only has 1. Considering the most difficult challenge in making a new civ is to animate the leaders, I'm not sure why they settle on leaders.
Because it's simply cheaper.

There's no point in denying that this pack/pass is probably done on an even lesser crew than NFP. (There's no point in denyign they aren't at the prototype stage of Civ 7 either).

Alt Leaders are cheaper to make than an entire Civ, for the Civ you have to have.

- A Leader, and its art, animation, and voice acting and blance of its ability.
- A unique unit, including art, animation, and balance.
- A unique infrastuructre, including art and balance.
- And art for the Civ itself (the icon), as well as the balance of its abiility.

For an Alt Leader, you really only need:
- A Leader, and its art, animation and voice acting (if a brand new alternate leadeR)
- A leader, and it's art, because animation and voice acting is recycled (for personas).

Not all leaders comes with a unique improvement (Kristina and Pachacuti are the only ones with a unique infrastructure), or a unit.

So it's considerably more cheaper to in terms of not just money, but also time, to make a new alt leader.

Sure, new Civs are always exciting, but they can also be huge misteps (Babylon being super OP).

Also, with the fact that this is primarily free for pre-existing users who have invested in all the DLCs, it probably means it didn't get a huge budget to begin with, so they have to be pick their battles wisely.

While I share the concerns of some to have Ludwig II ruling Germany, it's probably one of the rulers that hypes me the most.
I mean, sure, Ludwig II ruling Germany is quite odd, but remember, Firaxis said time and time again that, for leaders, they were heading toward big personalities. And the lunatic, homosexual, bankrupt, architect, gallivanting-in the-night-in-a-sleigh, dying-mysteriously-with-his-psychiatrist Ludwig II is definitely a big personality.

I mean, knowing that he bankrupted himself several times for his architectural projects, he could have an ability to spend money to quicken Wonders building. Would be an interesting choice, in the same vein as Qin Shi Huang First Emperor move.

I know I complained about Julius Caesar over the likes of Claudius, who I absolutely adore, or Cincinnatus who would be absolutely overpowered but who could only be played for 5 turns before you get locked out to Spectate Mode and forced to watch the rest of the game, but I would like an alternate Roman leader. The pack is free for me though so I don't really feel like complaining.

Anyway it's like 2 hours from the announcement, I'm surprised we haven't got figured out the whole Mbande Nznga's LUA from the single new Steam screenshot by now:

"Amenities from Starting Era" is a bonus having to do with the setup of the game, right? And there's a Holy Site left in sight for a reason :p

I'm a gay man, and I've never felt as well represented as just now with they way you described him...

the last dlc before this was almost two years ago. the devs have no excuses to not give us 12 freshly animated leaders.
I'm quite confident that the main team moved on to Civ7 years ago and the Leader Pass is being made by the same interns (or a fresh batch of interns) who gave us NFP so I am not hopeful, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

And there's a Holy Site left in sight for a reason :p
I don't think there was ever any reason to assume Nzinga would inherit Mvemba's inability to found a religion.

We don't know that for certain, though. Maybe not, maybe so, but who knows. Don't be too down yet, mate. :)

18 leaders, a lot more actually!

AND: The pass is FREE if you own all DLC or the Anthology pack!
This is insane! I was willing to pay for it, but them making this a gift for loyal fans is just incredible! Not often do you see such great business practice. They had no need to make it free, and yet they did

That is so cool and busted at the same time. I love it! Right now we already have an extremely busted Great Engineer with this ability and he can build 2 wonders back to back in 2 turns, if you have the Mausoleum.

Theory: Great Commanders was supposed to include Julius Caesar, but they're holding him to be the figurehead for a new Pass :please:

Rome is one of the most popular Civs. It's strange to skip it, especially if it were initially planned as in the leak.
I am now hoping for another Frontier Pass type DLC mixed with more leaders. Julius Caesar missing, as well as some other notable leaders like Napoleon, makes me think we will still receive some future content after all.

I guess I know why people love Caesar, but Rome is boring as hell though as a civ though. If you look at the civ ability, UD and UU, it is quite a barebone, basic vanilla civ that most new players would start with. People complain about Sejong being pointless cuz of how boring Korea is, but I think Rome is probably an even worse civ in terms of this aspect.

Not a single in-game screenshot? :(

Anyway, have to admit Nader Shah might get me playing again. Never thought we'd ever see a post-Achaemenid leader of Persia. Would have preferred a Sassanid myself, but I'll take it. Also unironically pleased that we're presumably getting Cleopatra in Greek clothes. If you're going to choose a Ptolemy for Egypt, live with your choice. :p Have to ask, though, did we really need a persona pack for Victoria?
Could they be bold and have her lead the Greeks as well? :egypt:

If this is the last bit of new content for Civ6, I wouldn't be shocked if Civ7 came out at the end of 2023 for the holiday season. The last release for the Leader Pass is in March, wait a couple of months to announce Civ7 in the summer and then preview it until its released in fall or winter.

I'm sure they could do new fresh things with Rome. I mean, they're Rome.

That would be bizarre. She was 99% Graeco-Macedonian herself (let's be honest: her family tree was 99% Ptolemy :mischief:), but she didn't have a shred of influence in Greece or so much as a strip of Greek land. Even in Egypt she cemented her role as Pharaoh by playing the Copts against her Hellenic family.

I'm sure they could do new fresh things with Rome. I mean, they're Rome.
The only interesting thing I can think of that they could do with Rome (in Civ7) is cannibalize other civs' abilities, since that's pretty much what they did (and did well) in real life.
