The real Elizabeth was such a fascinating personality. I hope they can actually capture her charisma, moodiness, and temper for once, and Civ6 seems like a great medium to do it--if they're not reusing animations again. I'd also low-key love to see an older, moodier Elizabeth, perhaps based on the Rainbow Portrait.
Do you think Firaxis could get Cate Blanchett in a studio for 15 minutes to do a few lines? I mean, maybe Sean Bean could give her a call to ask…?
St Cate saying “would you be interested in a trade agreement with England” would be the most punk thing since being able to pat the Scout’s dog.
Why is it free? There's something fishy here.
Leader pass is to drive engagement, which is a key metric as it helps push sales velocity.
I assume FXS have done the maths and concluded that it’s unlikely more paid content will achieve sufficient ROI versus other projects to be worth doing. But keeping fans engaged is worth a little bit of capex, to drive sales of Anthology and keep the IP front of mind. Everyone that buys Anthology is not just one more person buying Civ 6, they’re also more likely to be a buyer of an eventual Civ 7 and also other Firaxis products like Midnight Suns and X-Com.
Put another way, the leader pack helps drive a few more sales at the end of the Civ 6’s life but more importantly helps maximise and prime the fanbase for sales of future products. That’s likely much more valuable that trying to actually sell more Civ 6 content to existing players with all the increased expectations and additional indirect costs that would likely involve (eg marketing, patches).
I think the FXS guys are good guys and genuinely passionate about Civ and the fans. But there is also business thinking that goes into their decisions too.
I am now hoping for another Frontier Pass type DLC mixed with more leaders. Julius Caesar missing, as well as some other notable leaders like Napoleon, makes me think we will still receive some future content after all.
Yes, that must be right. But I suspect they’re likely only held back for a similar low cost bit of “bonus” leader content. I really would love FXS to develop the game a bit more, the back half still feels quite underdeveloped to me, but I just can’t see it happening unfortunately.
It’s a pity FXS clearly aren’t going to further develop Civ 6. It’s a great game as is - I still
play a lot - but for all the amazing early to mid game gameplay and really great content some stuff like Governors and T4 Governments still feel underdeveloped and the end game still feels pretty empty notwithstanding GDRs etc. I feel like development had real momentum up to and through Gathering Storm. NFP was pretty good, and added lots of great little touches, but didn’t really carry that momentum forward beyond maybe a couple of “always on” game modes like Secret Societies and Corporations.
Sad. But it is what it is. Still a great game bursting with content. If I want deeper gameplay, I’ve got EUIV etc, or even Civ V or IV. I’m still also really thrilled to get some more leaders and personas, and very excited about Lizzie in particular and a gaggle of China leaders.
And glad to have had a reason to be back on these forums again, even if it’s just for a minute.
