[LP] Civilization VI: Leader Pass - Discussion Thread

The only interesting thing I can think of that they could do with Rome (in Civ7) is cannibalize other civs' abilities, since that's pretty much what they did (and did well) in real life.
That could actually be pretty interesting. When you conquer all the Cities of a Foreign Civilization, gain the ability to buy/produce their Unique Unit and Infrastructure.

Make it so that it's not too overpowered(you have to take all the Cities instead of just the Capital), while still powerful.

I'm sure they could do new fresh things with Rome. I mean, they're Rome.
As Rome stands right now, all of their abilities are "bonus passive yields for something you would do anyway": bonus housing for aqueducts, bonus gold for trade routes, bonus CS for a swordsman, and some culture when settling. Unless there are some drastic overhauls, which I doubt, I don't think a new leader will shake up their gameplay.

I guess I know why people love Caesar, but Rome is boring as hell though as a civ though. If you look at the civ ability, UD and UU, it is quite a barebone, basic vanilla civ that most new players would start with. People complain about Sejong being pointless cuz of how boring Korea is, but I think Rome is probably an even worse civ in terms of this aspect.

Rome is pretty dull, I agree. Like you said, it's a beginner-friendly civ with passive abilities that require little input from the player. And yet it is popular despite that! I guess people like it as a matter of immersion? It is Rome.

I assume Rome is designed this way because it is one of the Civs that new players are likely to be motivated to try first, therefore making it beginner-friendly makes sense. Yet another reason to give us a leader to make it more complex :mischief:

For Windows PC, if you purchase Civilization VI Anthology (or purchase all of the content that's included in it separately at any time), you'll be eligible to receive the Leader Pass for no additional charge.
[...] to the Steam, Epic, Mac App Store, and iOS versions of Civilization VI.
Console players have, once more, been forgotten. Extremely disappointed by this news.
I guess the multiplayer component is never going to get fixed either.

I don't recall the weekly video updates routine. When Should I be expecting a new video, considering the pack releases Monday?
The Livestream will probably go live on Saturday, as it usually did in earlier times, and there's usually no more videos after the Livestream, so I'd have to say there will be a video every day, starting Wednesday, until the Livestream. Could be wrong, though, and they do something different.

Saturday? Are you sure? I don't recall any videos on weekends post GS.
---

Theory: Leader Pass is free for Anthology owners to encourage people to purchase it and get the player base ready for the epic delivery of LP2, where they make greater use of GS and NFP mechanics :please:

Why is it free? There's something fishy here. Why would they not charge the consumer base which is more likely to purchase this content, that is, those who have purchased the previous DLCs?

I'd say First Looks and a Livestream all on Thursday.

IMO, an olive branch. A lot of us are disenchanted from their lack of support post NFP. I have to admit, if they also fix the bugs, this'll go a long way to mending bridges and get me at least to come to the table about buying Civ7. Additionally, this will definitely revive interest from inactive players as they play with their new toys, ready for Civ7. I'm surprised it's free...but there is logic to it.

That's assuming that they will patch the bugs. Otherwise, it's a waste, in my opinion.

I can definitely see a second LP in the cards if this one does well. It’s a clever attempt to re-engage with fans of the game, by rewarding their top fans.

Ideas for LP2:
Julius Caesar (our missing Roman)
Isabella (our missing Spaniard)
Hannibal Barca
Napoleon Bonaparte
William of Orange
Ivan IV or Catherine II
Harun al-Rashid
Nebuchadnezzar II :D
Probably George Washington (not that we need him)

Has this already been posted? I don't recall reading it:

"Expand your roster of historical leaders with the Civilization VI: Leader Pass. The Leader Pass introduces 18 new leader selections via six DLC packs scheduled for release between November 2022 and March 2023. England's Elizabeth I, Egypt's Ramses, and the United States' Abraham Lincoln are among 12 all-new leaders entering the fray, along with six new takes on existing leaders with different abilities and agendas. Will you ally with Barbarians as China's Qin Shi Huang the Unifier? Wage war as Arabia's Sultan Saladin? Usher in a golden age of culture as Mali's Sundiata Keita? With the Leader Pass, there are more options and obstacles on your road to building a great empire than ever before."

The Features Thread has been updated, please let me know if I missed anything

...How did literally none of us notice this before?

Ok, let's dissect this paragraph one Leader at a time.

1. So, it seems that the new Qin Shi Huang will be more militarily-focused, with a special emphasis on being helped by Barbarians.

2. Saladin seems to be divided into both a warmonger with his new Leader Ability, related to the Third Crusade, and more Faith, Culture, and Science-driven Leader with his old Persona.

3. Seems like Sundiata has a Cultural bonus, probably related to Mali's first codified social and political constitutions under Keita's reign.

The biggest upside to LP seems to be that you can now finally found a religion as Kongo and get some sweet Reliquaries/Nkisi synergies :p

That would be bizarre. She was 99% Graeco-Macedonian herself (let's be honest: her family tree was 99% Ptolemy :mischief:), but she didn't have a shred of influence in Greece or so much as a strip of Greek land. Even in Egypt she cemented her role as Pharaoh by playing the Copts against her Hellenic family.

I meant it more as a dig to fans who complained about her being the staple Egypt leader, as a joke. Perhaps her leading the Romans as a bonus pack with a little Caesarion in the background would be a better one:lol:

I would actually kind of like it if they gave us some ALT history "What if X conquered Y" type leader/civ combinations with some new personas to play with as a mode

I'd say the reason why its free is because its the last major update to Civ6, a final gift to the players who supported the game by buying all of the DLC. Developing games cost money and I can't image them giving away this much content for free as a loss leader to another DLC, it doesn't make a lot of sense to do that. Giving it away to players who already spent a bunch of money on the game is a good way to build up some good will and make them more likely to get Civ7 though.
