[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

They do mention 'free updates for all players' but have left it comfortably vague. I wouldn't expect drastic improvements in AI capability at this point but hopefully they can make some changes.
I don't want to sound like I am asking for unreasonable improvement. Everyone who plays computer games know that good AI is hard to do. So "some changes" would indeed be welcome.

I wonder if meteors will leave huge crater. Would be too unrealistic if it just removes the city same way as razing.

Damn... ended work a bit late and this is already 200+ posts long (237 when I started reading, 259 now...)!

And I'm working from home, so this has ben just stop working, see the tweet alert on the phone, check the video and browse for civFanatics... we indeed deserve the name...

I guess I cannot say anything that has not been said already, so Count me In. Maya, Colombia and Ethiopia are reason enough to consider the pack, and we'll see what is to come. Glad to support continuous development for the game, as long as you can control the activation of over-the-top features (Persona packs sound like a nice tweak, but may be as well to extreme-cheesy for a normal game).

I'm hoping secret societies affect diplomacy, religion, and economics

Interestingly, Catherine Persona Pack related to Luxuries releaseas around the time so fingers crossed for more economic gameplay with Luxuries and City-States.
Personally I hoped Influence over City-States was more task-based rather than one-quest-a-time. Something like +1 Envoy so long you have Trade Route to it, you may assing Luxury Resource to import it (wholly or 1 of its Amenities) to the CS for +1 Envoy etc etc.

I hope there is some kind of discount for cross platform purchases. I want this on Switch and PC. I'm sure there won't be any discount, though...

I like how meteorites can destroy city. So if its hit one of your best cities that's big impact. If they add more of these some kind of breaks to growing large and just winning game would be great. And from vibes right now I would say that most of things introduce in this (and probably future) DLC would be more leaning towards destroying your empire than to build it, and I love that --- currenty game isnt balanced enough. This apocalypse mode is first step into right direction.

I'm pretty sure the new "modes" are mechanics, or they would have just called them scenarios.
I really hope that’s the case because it would be smart of Firaxis to implement it this way. Being able to toggle these mechanics off and on would make both sides happy. The core fan base who wanted more complicated mechanics can toggle them on and the casual fan base who can toggle them off

These packages look like there are continent themed:
Maya & Gran Colombia - South America
Ethiopia - Africa

So now the other four how can they be divided?
My guess is this:

Babylon & Vietnam - Asia
NNA - North America
Italy with two leaders - Europe 1
Portugal - Europe 2

Another idea is to not have another native north american civ and instead have either byzantium or morocco.
But one thing is clear, someone is not returning or we won't have many new civs.

It’s tricky because I think when most of the fans be hear “new systems” they think expansion features like corporations, colonies, etc. These are what we are not getting.

What we are getting are optional additional twists to the game... a bit like a scenario but applicable to random maps and leaders.

How can you know this? You call it optional twists because it's optional. Make sure the checkbox is checked everytime you play and it's a new mechanic. We only had Apocalypse revealed to us. Nothing says future packs won't have this content. In fact Secret Societies name gives me Beyond Earth Espionage vibes and might introduce the very Corporations you mentoin.

Very unlikely. They didn't specify that the new civs for the first DLC would need Gathering Storm content.

It still possible that these Civs will get a minor extra ability if you play with the expansions, in the same way America in GS gets favors from wildcard slots, but everything else is identical to its R&F version

It also means that the mechanics won't tie together in any way that require two or more mechanics to be enabled at the same time.

Personally I think they have realized that a lot of people don't play scenarios, so they are now making some new "scenarios" that are merged into the main game, and will see how people respond to that.

I find it very unlikely we'll get a modern Italy. I'd be be more expecting to get something like Venice or Switzerland, if we want to be in that area.

I'm really curious what secret societies is going too add.

Apocalypse is kinda obvious. More natural disasters, crazy strong and powerful natural disasters, and some control over them with the soothsayer unit.

The only thing I can think of with secret societies is much stronger espionage. Maybe being able too outright steal cities?

It is worth nothing that because the pass is playable by people who only own the base game that they wont interact with the expansion mechanics.

Because of this I dont hold much hope for new world congress resolutions or effects on loyalty etc.

In terms of a personal fantastical and a-historical game mode wish, I would love something pirates of the Caribbean esq. Spawning islands in the ocean with special artifacts and booty too fight over and make mid game exploration more interesting

I'd love a renaissance Italy which worked with city-states in an interesting way. Failing that Venice again would be fine. But, man. One of the biggest gaps in the game in terms of cultural significance.

Corporations are hardly secret societies. The apocalypse stuff about meteor strikes is not something I would call a new "mechanic". I sure do hope we get something more than "try it once for the sake of novelty and then forget about it", but I do think that's gonna be it.
