[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

Hmm . . .
As far as I can tell, there's not a word said about improvement in basic gameplay.
This looks to me like they're adding lots (and lots) of bells and whistles and not doing very much under the hood.
I really wish it were otherwise. Previous editions of Civ saw the AI's behavior slowly improve over time. This one - not so much.

I'd speculate that pandemics/epidemics is going to be one of the features. Just given the current situation and how historically diseases have ravaged civilizations -- just makes sense. It could integrate into the WC nicely too as civilizations try to band together to slow/stop the spread via a project or some temporary 30-turn measure intended to help mitigate the disease.

Looks like a unique district maybe? But it also looks more Mayan than Ethiopian.

It's not clear whether the new district coming with Ethiopia is unique or whether it's shared across all Civs. I'd hope the latter. Not that unique districts aren't cool.

Looks kind of like a Mayan observatory with the dome like top. Similar to El Caracol in Chichen Itza

Looks fine to me. We are still missing Austria, Byzantium, Portugal, and Venice. All of these nations had a huge impact on the world.

Byzantium and Portugal are quite likely, not quite sure about Venice and Austria, though.

I think the best bet would be Monte Albán, a Zapotec city.
So far all the city-state replacements have been from the same continent, so I expect it to stay the same.
Jakarta-Bandar Brunei
Seoul-Babylon
Amsterdam-Antioch
Carthage-Nngazargamu
Stockholm-Bologna
Toronto-Mexico City

It'd be a bit odd to have Monte Alban as a scientific CS...but I guess that's the closest. Makes me wonder If we'll finally get more mesoamerican CS, It's a crime Teotihuacan isn't featured yet.

If the Paradox model is any indication as to the direction they want to take the civ model, I imagine the free patch features/fixes are best left announced in diaries/videos when the release is close.

So much to catch up on, but nice to see some new content coming out. Seems like to me this is essentially a full expansion spaced out over a year, and instead of having more new big features like governors, loyalty, etc... instead they're doing it a little more like plug and play game modes to let you choose which systems. So apocalypse mode basically takes the natural disasters system up to 11. The second one secret societies probably is a whole revamp of the spy system, I'm guessing the new district/infrastructure would be like the jail/courthouse type of system that would play into that.

Certainly will be interesting overall to see which of the game modes I'll like or not. Apocalypse mode doesn't really sound too fun to me, but I'm sure some people will like it.

Perhaps so. But that would require first that they acknowledge that basic parts of the gameplay aren't very good. Even Paradox does that - sometimes!

I think meteors will be in the normal game also, apocalypse is I would guess just „disaster level 12“

You're probably right. They said that they'll be taking a bit of creative license with some of the systems. I'm not aware of any city that has suffered a significant meteor impact, but it's just a matter of time until someone, somewhere gets a direct hit by something that is more dangerous than just shattering some windows. It's terrible to imagine something like the Tunguska meteor happening in the middle of a city. It'd be like a modern-day nuke minus the radioactivity.

Oh, and since meteors are definitely going to be in the game, perhaps some sort of asteroid impact avoidance project or WC project?

Yeah, we're not going to get quite as many new European Civs as that, I don't think. Portugal is a lock and probably Byzantium too. As for Austria and Venice, I don't think we'll get both (though I would prefer Italy to either...)

Any particular reason it seems odd? As far as I know they did develop similar writing glyphs and a calendar as well. I think they would be a perfect replacement.

I have just noticed Kveten in Czech is may and in polish kwiecień is April... it's like "listopad" which is in Croatian October, and in Polish it's November :D:D:D

Yeah ya'll should've moved to the latin ones for clarity. Major pain in the Holy Site when I studied in Czechia and one casually understands everything but then someone says in what month something happens and one is like "So can I at least get a number"?

If I were you, I would be cautiously hopeful that it will come in the six free updates that will be released the months in between DLC releases.

I am skeptical. The game has been out how long? And little has been done so far.

EDIT: And by the way, although I am a newbie on this forum and have lurked here forever, I have played every edition of Civ since the original. So I do know something about this franchise.

Portugal and Byzantium are expected (that or we riot). Italy or a renaissance Italian state, and even tho I'm not a fan of Austria, they probably are in as well. I'd love to see Kievan Rus with Olga of Kiev as leader, but I would be happy with an alternate leader for Russia, and while we are at it, one for Germany as well.

They do mention 'free updates for all players' but have left it comfortably vague. I wouldn't expect drastic improvements in AI capability at this point but hopefully they can make some changes.

Anyone got any ideas of which rise and fall civ is getting a new leader.
Realistic guess: Kublai Khan for Mongolia

Wildcard guess: William of Orange for the Netherlands

So-crazy-it-might-be-true guess: Mary Queen of Scots for Scotland
