[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

A little bit of Googling showed a result with conspiracy of Ark of the Covenant and Ethiopia. Another conspiracy of priory of scion and Ethiopia.
I'd be much more interested in a religion based secret society mode than any other and I hope that's the case.

I hope they come in multiple flavors.

Knights Templar: religious

Illuminati: economic

Free Masons: governance/diplomacy

Order of Assassins and/or ninja: military/espionage

It just occurred to me that if Secret Societies affect governors, Ethiopia could have Zara Yaqob with a unique female governor, since he only trusted he female family members late in his reign.

what about the devil worshippers? if we can’t desecrate churches, go insane and sacrifice babies, what’s the point

I have thought about this several times but I can't figure out a way that I'm satisfied with of how Secret Societies might work.

I’m sure it’s something really smart, we’ll find out soon. my guess is there’ll be different flavors of spies

One of the devs must play Assassin's Creed then.
I'll take this, especially a ninja unit. Am I the only one who's noticed that the Intelligence Agency building looks like a ninja dojo/school anyway?

Fun fact: I just googled Zara Yaqob and the first hit (and even the Wikipedia link) showed with his Civ4 leaderface. ^^"

I'm thinking it will be like a religion. You found a Secret Society, pick its bonuses, spread it to cities, domestic and foreign for certain bonuses or benefits

potential benefits:
easier time committing espionage
(if in another civ's capital) you become friendlier faster
better trade yields (if spread to both terminus cities)
attacks do more damage to walls (due to sabotage)
religion follower bonuses increased in that city

Different flavors of spies is a really interesting idea. It seems a lot of us think it's going to be based primarily around the espionage system.

This would mean it only really starts effecting the game from the mid-game onwards though, when spies start to be unlocked. I wonder if they have an impact during the early game

I think it will end up looking a bit closer to the espionage system, with invisible units and "projects" that pop up from time to time.

i’m glad to see at least one person got my ck2 joke regarding secret societies

In terms of the new district i am guessing it's going to be a one-per civilization espionage district with buildings that give bonuses to spies.

However this means that there probably isn't a need for the intelligence agency government plaza building anymore. Maybe they could replace with a 'Colonial Office' that gives a loyalty bonus to all cities that have a harbor.

This might be their way of reintroducing a "corporate" like extension to religion to the late game, in that maybe religions could get a secret agenda that comes with bonuses if you fullfill it...yeah Illuminati and the sort, but I mean we already got soothsayers on apocalypse mode so it might not be so crazy.

If you haven't tried Suk's Trisong Detsen (Tibet) you're missing out. Imo, as good as any FXS leader.
He also has Lopsong Gyato, if going non-military is your thing.

Highly recommend his mods as well as the CIVITAS Gajah Mada if you want leaders and civs which won’t be in the game, but are still high quality, animated, and voice acted. He even has a Zara Yakob to get to you to July.

I tried to see if there were some gameplay factors that would help predict the upcoming civs, but there's surprisingly little consistency between those on R&F and GS... R&F had a lot of warmongers and science civs, while GS had a ton of terrain-based civs but only one that was really focused on warmongering on the Ottomans. The only consistent pattern is that there was one naval civ on each (Netherlands / Phoenicia).

It could be a domestic intelligence agency that protects against espionage.
