[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

That would be in keeping with the general level of effort that has gone into NFP leader designs. :(

I know I am beginning to beat a dead horse here, but previous NFP leaders don't really have a problem of messing up their most important features such as hairstyle and headwear. Menelik II even had his hat exactly reconstructed.

I mean, Ambiorix is shirtless, covered in woad, and wearing a weird quasi-Suebian knot so... :p

Gauls were not around anymore, while Mongols are still an existing ethnic group who largely dressing the same way as Kublai.

And even Marco Polo (that TV show) didn't get Kublai's hairstyle and shape of the face wrong.

Not sure that's relevant. Bottom line is that Kublai is no more grotesquely ahistoric than Ambiorix--and plenty more leaders join the roster if we move beyond NFP. There are still Nahuatlacah, and Monty's costume is downright absurd. I'm not disagreeing with you that Kublai's design isn't great, but he's hardly the first. Maybe the first where they chose to go with a more bland design rather than a more fantastic design, but...

Don't forget Fred Red Beard the German, wearing fully articulated plate armor almost exactly 300 years too early IRL. . . .

Count your blessings. It could have been Boudicca. :p
With a shirt though. :shifty:

Not to mention that according to Firaxis redheads have fire engine red hair. :p (I get it, natural-looking red hair is hard...but seriously they could try a little harder. :p )

I don't know: shirtless Boudicca could be seen as a logical progression from her Civ5 appearance. :shifty:

I suspect that part of the problem with Ambiorix and Fred the Red's portrayals is that, realistically, they should both be wearing link mail armor, and link mail, being intricate and metallic, would be a very tricky piece of graphic animation. Somebody with more graphic animation experience might be able to confirm or correct this assumption.

If they individually modeled each link, yes, but there are simple enough ways to convincingly fake it using displacement and/or normal maps and alpha channels.

and observatory ... I find that to be better than Korean counterpart Sewon and normal campus... heck whole UD was done better in NFP than before. Especially since they look VERY different than their normal counterparts.
Well I find the campus buildings not fitting in with the Observatory so I'll have to disagree with that. The Seowon might look similar to a normal campus but at least the colors don't clash.
I do like the way that the actual Observatory looks though.

Of course the UD that looks the most similar to a regular counterpart is the Royal Navy Dockyard once you reach the late game, at least compared to the Cothon in my opinion.

I don't see how they don't fit.

that is the thing I like obervatory the most. It isn't just plain blue like other campus and Seowon.
The problem is the buildings aren't the same color schemes as the rest of the Observatory so they don't match, which is a little off-putting.

I'm still miffed that Babylon didn't get an Observatory UB or UD. Then again, irrigation is the most Mesopotamian thing about Civ6's Babylon design so maybe I shouldn't complain... :shifty:

Yeah, cinnabar and royal blue are a very unpleasant color combination.

The fertile crescent, home to the Assyrians, Babylonians, Akkadians, Elam, etc. Truly, a cradle of civilization.

The turtle points to either An Duong Vuong or Le Loi as the Vietnamese leader. RIP Tran Nhan Tong I guess. Also RIP Sean Bean who may have to pronounce these names, considering that they keep all the Vietnamese diacritics in game instead of anglicizing them (Tran Nhan Tong is a million times easier to pronounce than Le Loi, An Duong Vuong and a billion times easier than Trung Trac).

I'm pretty sure he's dead already... He was filled with arrows-wait, didn't he die to execution-nevermind. He's died so many times I can't remember which one I'm referencing.

The Vietnamese Capital's name points directly at an 11th century leader. That would invalidate your suggestions.

That would invalidate An Duong Vuong who is ancient, but not Le Loi. Thang Long (modern Ha Noi) was the capital until the Nguyen Dynasty (the last Vietnamese dynasty) with only 7 years interruption of a shortlived Ho Dynasty from 1400 to 1407. It clearly doesn't invalidate Le Loi.

Yes, it would. The Ly Dynasty was settled in Thang Long (modern-day Hanoi). When Le Loi came around two centuries later, the city's name had already changed to Dong Kihn.

I mean, you could be right. But then it would be an oversight on Firaxis' behalf.
