[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

he’s literally the guy that does the Vietnam announcement in Vietnamese lol
Which I have to say his pronunciation of all the tones and vowels is very impressive! I understood him perfectly without subtitles. Definitely a lot better than Jennifer Lawrence's Vietnamese in Xmen Days of Future Past. I watched her in theater and watched her again at home with English subtitles on and still couldn't work my way backward to see what the original Vietnamese sentences were.

What did he say? I can hear it clearly, but I don't understand it. I don't trust Google Translate on this, either...

I adore Amy Adams, but her Mandarin in Arrival (an otherwise phenomenal movie) left a lot to be desired as well. And I don't even speak Mandarin. :shifty:

I have a theory; we get introduced to the new district with this pack and get the rest of January, whole Febreaury and the first half of March to fall in love with it; then the final Civ is Haudenosaunee with an Unique Preserve replacement, the Longhouse (or it could replace one of the buildings inside of it)

They're not going to make a Civ with a unique preserve outside of this pack. The greatest problem with the NFP design is that all features are compartmentalized inside their own packs, and can't cross interact because somebody may not have that one particular pack installed.

I am fluent in Thai and Lao (and a dialect called Kammeuang - the language of Lanna, Northern Thailand), and am in my hours before work learning Burmese. None of these are related to Vietnamese (in fact, the Thai, Lao, and Meuang are all closely related Tai languages, so it's a little cheating to claim them as three), but they do give you an ear for what to look for re: tones and aspiration. It means a lot to me to hear that it sounded correct. It was definitely something I practiced.

That's cool to hear. :D It's nice when people pronounce foreign languages properly, especially for a game inspired by history.

I still think the Longhouse would make a good granary replacement. At least it's the one city center building I wouldn't mind getting an upgrade, if it was the Iroquois.
Of course instead of +2 Housing it should grant at least +5. :mischief:

I know it was a workshop replacement in Civ 5 but building a longhouse in the middle of an Industrial Zone doesn't make sense in this game. Plus we aren't getting a unique Preserve unless Kublai Khan gets it in the form of a "pleasure dome?" :shifty:

I'd be happy to send Firaxis my notes on Phoenician, gathered chiefly from Kramahlkov but also other grammars, if they'd like it to sound less like "Hebrew with an archaic accent" next time around. :shifty:

I am still keeping my wishful thinking up that March will be a Native American civ and for the last piece of free content on April, it will be Portugal to conclude the development of Civ6.
I remember I wrote a "plea" a few pages back to FXS Andrew that please don't let us go without both the NA civ and Portugal, a lot of people would like to see both so it is like easy money, and he liked my comment :) I know, haha, I'm reading too much into simple things but I guess that is what the forum is for most of the time anyway :)

My personal hope is that the March DLC is the Iroquois. After that, I hope for one final DLC with Portugal and Morocco (or Berbers).

I'm half hoping we get neither a NA Civ or Portugal in March. That's the only way I'd feel confident they're planning more content after NFP.

Perhaps just a handful of independent DLC, with mechanics requiring GS. They might want to test how well DLC-dependent DLC sells. Having a handful of DLC for that purpose would make sense.

It's also an opportunity to sell Alt Leaders in high demand. Since they don't require new music production etc, it wouldn't surprise me if they left a few alt leader packs for the end of cycle.
---

I'm also still not convinced they're moving onto Civ 7. A Sci-Fi or Fantasy focused interlude, where they can test new game mechanics before trying them on their main series, would make more sense to me.

I will happily take a NA civ, if Portugal had already been included in the game. Which they haven't been. Somehow.

:shake:

*Technically, they already have Lisbon in game*

Yeah, I did not have thought of this point of view. In my country, we see the world as 6 continents, not 7 as America is just one. Of course we do the difference between south and North America, but they are merely subcontinents (like India, It is located in the Indian subcontinent but it is in Asia). Therefore, all people that lived in the continent are "Natives americans", to the northern inuit to the southern mapuches and everything between them.

Writing this, I also notice that the meaning of America can be different too, as when I read "native American" for me the meaning is "american= Whole continent", but for other people it could mean "American= Person from the USA" (so natives tribes inside actual USA).

I find funny that different cultural points of view can change the perception of the actual state of the game!! For me they are 5 native americans civs in the game, but for others just 1! so of course some people will ask for more, as they are underrepresented!

PS: Just for sharing another curious difference, we also may use "Americas" in plural, but with 2 main meanings. To differentiate the latin American part of the anglosaxon one or, in history, when you called all the different kingdoms in the same geographical sphere of America.

Yeah, outside of Europe, Americas are split into:

North America
Mesoamerica
South America

I believe a North American civ will be in for March pack, and Portugal will be part of a post-NFP (whether separate DLC pack or part of expansion or another NFP) along with more alt leaders and few missing civs suggested in this thread.

Yes, that, I hope includes Italy and Morocco.

Maybe another half-year of DLC packs then wrap up with release of DLL?

Regardless of what the last Civ is, I think you can wrap a fluffy pink bow around Civilization 6 once this patch has fully unlocked. The devs consider it "finished" and I doubt they'll keep adding more content a la EU4 and AoE2.

I agree. I wouldn't discount another balance patch or so, but the conclusion of NFP will mark the conclusion of development for Civ6.

In that case we have our second Native Americans in North America with Cahokia too.

Italy and Portugal Pack
Berber/Morocco and Egypt Alt Leader Pack

These would make people happy. :D
Even if they did a Final Frontier Pass I wouldn't expect it to be as big as the current one but these could at least work.

Idk i kinda disagree with NFP been the last update for Civ 6, the game was given a fresh coat of paint just last year with Gathering Storm and New Frontiers has put the game in a really good place for both players and content creators.

Also in the same way we got Red Death at 2019 and the New Frontier pack expanded on it, the same could be done for both Secret Societies and Heroes and Legends, also both of those had been more popular than Red Death ever was and there a tons of things that could be done with them.
Civ wise, i do think the last civ of the pack would be Northamerican for the lack of civs there and Portugal would come of course.
