pre-release info Civilization VII - Content Spreadsheet Thread - Civ overview!

pre-release info
I actually expect Ottomans and Byzantium in Right to Rule potentially--I think Crossroads of the World will have the civs with wonders already in the game (Goths, Assyria, Silla, and...I'm sure I'm forgetting someone--probably not Teotihuacan, Temple of the Sun notwithstanding).
Ottomans and Byzantines are usually big anchors for expansions. I kind of doubt they will be post-launch DLC material. Otherwise, I agree that Crossroads is likely to be made up of civs for which we have already seen wonders.

Wasn't Teotihuacan located at the crossroad of trade routes?

Tonga, right. And they also make sense as an Antiquity origin for Hawai'i (who, I guess, now are coming from...Khmer? Maya?).
From Mississippi in the absence of Shawnee :crazyeye: As much as FXS treat Shawnee as the launch roster, make no mistake: they are not part of the base game and will not be available to anyone by default.

My guess, in relation to the chart in OP, is Ottomans in place of Germany in Base Game and no Russia in Base Game. Instead the DLCs to bring Holy Roman Empire, Germany, Byzantium and Russia.

If Khmer is also going into Majapahit, I guess it fits loosely because Majapahit and Hawaii are both Austronesian.

Though that kind of feels similar to justifying a transition from Spain into Mughals. :p

The justification they are aiming for is that the awkwardness of base game transitions justifies spending $50+ on assorted DLCs.

Challenged accepted. Spain eventually had a personal union with Portugal for centuries. Portugal established the state of Portuguese India with Goa as the capital. :p

I mostly meant in the similar distance in relationship between Spanish and Hindi and Old Javanese and Hawai'ian, but well played.

I know it's better not to argue, or try to explain about language, or linguistics, with you.

What evidence besides that crested helmed warrior unit is there for Hawaii? Also is there any evidence for Majapahit besides that flag in the Switch video for Himiko? Just wondering. I feel like one of those might not be in the base game and there’ll be a surprise exploration civ. Probably not. Just a thought though. The transitions to modern from exploration seem so messy.

I believe we've also seen a Majapahit wonder; we've also seen Polynesian-style architecture that points to Hawai'i.

We've seen what looks to be Borodudur. Technically it wasn't built during the Majapahit Empire but it seems logical it would be the associated wonder.

The problem is that we haven't seen anything that hints at the Ottomans so far. We haven't seen architecture, a possible associated wonder, simply nothing. I think, at this point, if they were included, we would have seen something by now. Which is a shame, because they are a very fitting transition from the Abbasids, who, without them, will likely have to go to the Mughals.

They are the best match for civ switching purposes. Where will Songhai go without them if Buganda is taken? To Germany? Of course not.

So I stay by my predictions. We didn't see much modern footage so it's not that surprising that we have no empirical evidence for them up to this point.

You could see some leiomano-wielding infantry scrapping against some Mongol cavalry at the end of the Xerxes vid.

I think questions like "Where will Songhai go without them if Buganda is taken?" are not in top-10 questions to determine civ roster. Still, Ottomans are quite likely to be modern civ in Crossroads of the World DLC as they fit thematically really well.

If Buganda is taken and Songhai hasn’t unlocked anything else, then They become Buganda. You just get a duplicate (just like AI Rome if the Normans and Spain are taken)

Each civ Must unlock at least one other civ, 2 is preferable but not mandatory.

I expect you to be proven wrong in this regard. Care for a bet for told-you-so bragging rights?

Each civ Must unlock at least one other civ, 2 is preferable but not mandatory.

We now have all Antiquity civs announced and each and every of them have at least 2 clear options. Likewise, for every Exploration civs we can easily trace at least two predecessors and at least two successors. And for every Modern that we are confident to be in the game, we can trace at least two predecessors. So I'm pretty confident that it's indeed the rule and that the game is designed so that it was always possible not to have duplicates.

I'd go as far as to claim that every civ has exactly two options, but naturally, I'm less confident in this claim.
