MARDUK80: What is the strength of the Medic, what improvement is used to connect Tar to the trade network, and what is the yield of Kangerlussuaq?

I see you gave 10 Strength for the Medic unit. I think thats appropriate. Hmm, the Tar Kiln idea comes from my Finnish Civ uniques concept, which had Tar Kiln as a UI. But here I presented it as building. Lumber Mill might fit, but perhaps it should just be called Kiln improvement.

Kangerlussuaq (good choice). Perhaps based on this information:

During the period from 1986 to early 1990s, mining companies have explored the Skærgården area in the Kangerlussuaq Fjord for gold, palladium, platinum and ilmenite (titanium dioxide). The mining companies drilled in total 27 holes of approximately 16,600 m. The drilling confirmed two mineralised layers, which covered about 15 km2. This area represented c. 60% of the so-called Skærgård intrusion. Based on the drilling results the estimated resource was c. 71 million tons grading approximately 2.5 g per tons.

By far the most important animals hunted are ringed seal, narwhal and polar bear. About 1000 to 2000 ringed seals, 20 to 30 narwhals and 25 to 35 polar bears are caught in a single season

I would give it +3 Production, +3 Food and perhaps slightly increased experience point bonus from unit battles. Kind of representing it's symbolic importance to the Inuits.

Explorer (unlocked at Compass, advanced Recon unit, which has Guerilla Promotion (has a chance to remain invisibly to all other units) and much stronger than Scout.

Pouakai, what did you think about the Explorer unit? Feel free to disagree. I just think there definitely should be another Recon unit in the game. Perhaps reckon air unit would be better for mid/late game exploration?

Bonus resources: crab (sea resource),

Crabs would be great and those marsh tile bonus resources. Crabs should mostly appear on where rivers fall into the sea and in inland lakes.

Amber
See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amber_Road

Yields: +2 Gold, After the discovery of Biology every Amber tile also gives +1 Science.

Improved by: Mine

Terrains Found On: Any terrain on Coastal tiles (only).

Historical Info: "Amber is fossilized tree resin (not sap), which has been appreciated for its color and natural beauty since Neolithic times. Amber is used as an ingredient in perfumes, as a healing agent in folk medicine, and as jewelry. There are five classes of amber, defined on the basis of their chemical constituents. Because it originates as a soft, sticky tree resin, amber sometimes contains animal and plant material as inclusions. Amber occurring in coal seams is also called resinite, and the term ambrite is applied to that found specifically within New Zealand coal seams.

Amber was an important medium of exchange in the Stone Age. In some Central European countries it is customary for children to buy a teething amber beads. Amber reduce the old legend of the teething pains. In 2007, the Harvard researcher Santiago Ramirez a team of researchers discovered the waters of the Dominican Republic amber, which was the remnants of 15-20 million years ago to orchids. Discovery gave the researchers a new understanding about orchid history.

New Bonus Resource:

Fresh Water

See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limnology, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_resources, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_crisis

Yields: +1 Food

Improved by: Well (New improvement, unlocked by Engineering)

Terrains Found On: Grassland, Hills, Plains, Tundra, Forest

Historical Info: "Fresh water is an important natural resource necessary for the survival of all ecosystems. The use of water by humans for activities such as irrigation and industrial applications can have adverse impacts on down-stream ecosystems. Chemical contamination of fresh water can also seriously damage eco-systems.

Pollution from human activity, including oil spills, also presents a problem for freshwater resources. The largest petroleum spill that has ever occurred in fresh water was caused by a Royal Dutch Shell tank ship in Magdalena, Argentina, on January 15, 1999, polluting the environment, drinkable water, plants and animals.

Fresh and unpolluted water accounts for 0.003% of total water available globally

Fresh water is a renewable and changeable, but limited natural resource. Fresh water can only be renewed through the process of the water cycle, where water from seas, lakes, rivers, and dams evaporates, forms clouds, and returns to water sources as precipitation. However, if more fresh water is consumed through human activities than is restored by nature, the result is that the quantity of fresh water available in lakes, rivers, dams and underground waters is reduced which can cause serious damage to the surrounding environment."

I just think there definitely should be another Recon unit in the game. Perhaps reckon air unit would be better for mid/late game exploration?

New Unit: Balloon -> ( Observation Balloon )

Prerequisite Techs: Physics

Combat Type: Recon Unit

Cost: 120
Combat: 0
Ranged Combat: 5 (can bombard land and sea targets and other Balloons)
Movement: 1

Abilities: Has a large sight radius (Caravel has huge). Can be used in any Terrain (incl. Mountain and Ice tiles) and enter other players territory even if Open Borders agreements has not been signed. There is a chance that Balloon will sometimes suddenly "drop" and vanish (random thing).

Historical Info: The hot air balloon is the oldest successful human-carrying flight technology. It is in a class of aircraft known as balloon aircraft. On November 21, 1783, in Paris, France, the first untethered manned flight was made by Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier and François Laurent d'Arlandes in a hot air balloon created on December 14, 1782 by the Montgolfier brothers.

A balloon travels by moving with the wind. It is distinct from an airship, which is a buoyant aircraft that can be propelled through the air in a controlled manner. The "basket" or capsule that is suspended by cables beneath a balloon and carries people, animals, or automatic equipment (including cameras and telescopes, and flight-control mechanisms) may also be called the gondola.

The first military use of a balloon was at the Battle of Fleurus in 1794, when L'Entreprenant was used by the French Aerostatic Corps to watch the movements of the enemy. On April 2, 1794, an aeronauts corps was created in the French army; however, given the logistical problems linked with the production of hydrogen on the battlefield (it required constructing ovens and pouring water on white-hot iron), the corps was disbanded in 1799.

Balloons were the first mechanisms used in air warfare. Their role was strictly recognized for reconnaissance purposes. They provided humans with the first available method of elevating themselves well over the battlefield to obtain the proverbial "birds-eye view." They were an early instrument of definitive intelligence collection, and were also particularly useful in the preparation of accurate battlefield maps, before which time this rudimentary craft had led to many a battle field failure.

Observation balloons are balloons that are employed as aerial platforms for intelligence gathering and artillery spotting. Their use began during the French Revolutionary Wars, reaching their zenith during World War I, and they continue in limited use today.

Awesome idea for the balloon, I've updated the OP. If I may offer a suggestion, what about a movement of 1, with a lesser chance of dropping?

OK, I changed the prerequisite tech from Compass to Physics (feels more appropriate), added ranged combat strength, decreased movement to 1, adjusted sight range from huge to large (Caravel has huge) and added more info about terrain ability.

Most of all this is a Recon unit for medieval/renaissance era even though it has very limited ranged bombardment ability. It is possible to shoot down enemy Balloons via ranged units.

Could you update the changes to the OP ? :)

Basically like a cheaper fort- becomes available with some WWI tech. You could build lines of them to form a defensive line on your city. Could be used by both you and enemy units.

I like the idea, and in a WWI scenario, I think they're essential. I'm not sure I'd put it in the game myself, though, just because this is pretty much what I imagined unit fortification to be in the first place.

Yeah, when I fortify a unit from the industrial era, I assume they are digging trenches and fox holes. Would be cool to see an animation for said fortifying though.

If Trenches were an improvement, I would like them to be, as you said, a lighter fort improvement. It can only be built by Melee units. They should increase a unit's defense against bombardment, but not increase its defense, while on the trench's tile and the cost to enter a trench is two movement points (armor ignores this rule). Lines of trenches would therefore defend your units against bombardment while also slowing down the enemy.
