The conservative columnist and author John Derbyshire has prompted outrage after penning an article in which he urges white and Asian parents to tell their children to avoid contact with black Americans they do not know.

...

Derbyshire added: "If accosted by a strange black in the street, smile and say something polite but keep moving." He also suggested not living in an area run by black politicians. "If you are white or Asian and have kids, you owe it to them to give them some version of the talk. It will save them a lot of time and trouble spent figuring things out for themselves. It may save their lives," he concluded.

Well.. maybe it's just a misunderstanding-

Derbyshire, who has written numerous books as well as regular columns for the National Review, has previously courted controversy with his theories that economic and educational disparities between races have a biological origin. In 2010 he gave a speech to a black student legal group at the University of Pennsylvania where he outlined his beliefs to his black audience. "Those differences are facts in the natural world, like the orbits of the planets. They can't be legislated out of existence; nor can they be "eliminated" by social or political action," the British-born writer said at the time.

Oh.

What a disgusting, racist piece of crap. What's even worse are those that enable these kind of people. The NR should have known better than to allow such a virulent racist a place to spew his bile.

Thankfully Derbyshire has been sacked, however I doubt it'll take that long untill he appears on Foxnews, crying that the "liberal agenda" has organised it's collective might in an attempt to destroy him.

accost: approach and address (someone) boldly or aggressively

But yeah, the article is disgusting

Although the National Review had no editorial responsibility for Derbyshire's article, it said he was so closely associated with the magazine that his "outlandish, nasty and indefensible" writing was in effect a letter of resignation.
John Derbyshire fired for article urging children to avoid African Americans

in before "the man has a right to spew his virulent, hateful crap, useless! or do you hate free speech?"

NRO is like WND, but just how nuts it is isn't *immediately* obvious.

It was a favorite source from some people at a forum that's now kaput. It took me awhile to catch on, but NRO is factually incorrect often enough you should feel OK ignoring it, presents bad arguments often enough you'll want to ignore it, and is just plain offensive often enough you can't completely avoid it.

I hate free speech when people start speaking this bullcrap, just like O'Reilly tide comes in tide goes out thing, i mean come on, and thats shown on TV or Glenn Beck ranting how Obama is a Socialist/Communist/Muslim/Nazi...I think those people should not be allowed to exercise free speech because they spread idiocy.

Libruls are always pointing out conservative racism. It's not fair :(

Sometimes stereotypes are true. It's like "compassionate conservatism" - really a phrase which means bollocks will follow.

In this case the stereotype is correct; the person in question is indeed a racist conservative bigot.

Do you dispute this?

I live in a very multicultural city and if I believed the media I probably should be concerned about Muslims , blacks etc etc .

Yet if my memory serves me correctly , any time I've been "accosted" or screwed over by a politician's decision , surprise surprise , it's been by a white guy.

The thread title implies this was in the National Review when it was not, and they have since fired him for this article.

Stupid people say stupid things. He has a right to say it, whoever published it has a right to do that, others have a right to call him out on it (and call for his firing, which I for one am glad they did). I really don't see what free speech has to do with this at all.

In other news, I talked with a black person today. He was rather nice. Like everyone I talk to.
