Something Awful has freedom of expression but also of responsibilitie. The money thing is to ensure focus on topic talk, ensure a deterent to trolling and to keep creeps off. It a place of talk, not of stupidy.

Banning people or putting them on an ignore list never made any sense to me.

Censoring content from myself just never seemed appropriate.

I sometimes do it after post after post back and forth, where I try and try to get my point across only to have it turned into an more easily refuted point which is then addressed and then I'd have to drag my unwilling counterpart back to my real point, which usually doesn't work, so I see the hopelessness of it all, and rather than reading the nth burning of the ashes that once used to be the strawman of my point, I can decide to put a user on ignore to spare myself having to read any more self-congratulatory nonsense, since knowing that I'd probably shouldn't react to it, but knowing myself I'll probably will sometimes it makes as much sense to have an end to your sentence at regular frequent intervals as it does to spare yourself making an even bigger spectacle of yourself.

Good lord! I know I can mispell words and type ahead of myself at times but god damn this Xen(an old poster) level of mistakes. You better hope they don't start charging for misspelling words or you are going to owe them a ton.

I didn't realise tvtropes had any community, but it seems very left wing to me.

I don't particularly like "Ayran Ryne" types either, but if you don't allow them there then you don't have freedom of expression. It's like saying revleft of stormfront has freedom of expression.
