Since AoA closed the WA and place name threads on demand of TF, I am taking this thread topic back to life. Over at GC it is one of the most frequented threads but here it died down almost 6 months ago. I don´t want to revive such an old thread, so I am starting over again. ;)
Here are the rules:
  • 1. This thread is ONLY for Geography questions and answers! NO SPAMMING!

    2. A person starts with one question and the first one to answer correctly (wait for confirmation from the questioner) will post the next question. And so on.

    3. If a question has NOT been answered correctly for 3 days, the questioner should either give some hints or post a new question.

    4. This is a quiz of knowledge. So all answers AND questions should be made from your own memory! Anyone is able to find them on the net or in a book.

    5. To verify and/or emphasize your answer, e.g. when you are sure you are right but the questioner says wrong, you can use additional sources.

Now I´ll start with a new (easy) question:
How many mountains are over 8000m in the whole world? How many of these are NOT located in Asia?

Easy enought to get this thread going!
:D

EDITed rules to include questions from memory!

Quite right!

Your turn!
:D

How about Kinshasa?

euh ainwood it is not your turn:rolleyes:

you are really eager to ask a question but its now luckys turn:crazyeye:

Indeed! READ THE RULES!!!

Similar rules apply to all quiz threads, btw!

Now, where was I....

How many cataracts does the Nile have?

emm sorry, could anyone tell me what a cataract is? in my dictionary it traslates it as Katarakt (eye sickness), which clearly can not be the case here, right?

Call for quiz modification:
Obviously, it's pointless if you look things up on the net, we all know that... . I also propose that if you are asking a question, you must ask it without looking in a reference book either. So you can't go rummaging in your old text books or Atlas for a stumper - the question must already be in your head.
Does that sound reasonable?

Cataract = waterfall

That would be good indeed. I also think that these question that you can't answer without the net or a book are pointless. But I have no idea how you could see if people obey to the rules.

Of course! This is what the rules are meant to imply, too.
But everybody who heard something about Egypt history in school schould have learned how many cataracts (waterfalls, obstacles) exist in the Nile (only main river, not counting those in the Blue or White Nile ;)).

So 6 is ... WRONG! :p
The number is larger, more tries!
:D

No and No! :p

Hint: Both are too large!
:D
