Current (SVN) development discussion thread

Collapse is definitely too easy... I think I'm yet to see Spain survive the revolutions in Latin America. Admittedly, I don't play late game very often, but even the early game suffers: the ancient empires (Persia, Greece, Rome) collapse if they get even close to their real size, and taking one city from a neighbouring nation is all too often enough to collapse them. Or me, rather unfortunately. The stability system just seems too harsh. All that matters for the human anymore is expansion stability.
Persia: yeah, it was very stable. It disappeared because it was conquered, not because of interal issues.

Greece: Alexander died, instantly causing his empire to pretty much collapse. so it makes sense they barely hold tegether if near that size.

Rome:...yeah, they shoudlnt be collapsing at that size.

I don't know the reason but this bug happens with naval dominance too, I tried it with a 1700 ad dutch game and it was ok, but in a different game it wasn't working (3000 bc with moors)

New commit:
- it is now possible to use slaves under all civics except Egalitarianism
- Egalitarianism now causes extra unhappiness from slaves for all civs not running it

That! I really like it. Thanks.

New commit:
- the third Aztec UHV goal now counts all Old World units instead of only Europeans
- fixed the Phoenician UHV display
- fixed the Secularism exception for state religion requirements
- civs have to be dead for at least 20 turns until they can respawn

In the most recent SVN, when choosing a unit to build, sometimes you build that unit repeatedly. I believe that only happens if you choose from the prompt (the one that appears after you finish something in a city), as opposed to choosing it from the city screen.

Also, not really SVN related nor a bug, but sometimes when you make a trade (eg. Open Borders), sometimes your relations with the other civ decreases, making a, say, Cautious civ into an Annoyed civ.

Another question is this: when have you added a raze penalty? And it's too harsh IMO: in my last game I razed just three cities, and now I receive a -22 malus.

And the "outdated civics" penalty needs to be reformed. When you get a -10 point malus when running Autocracy, Totalitarianism, Capitalism, Free Market, and Standing Army, then there is something wrong. (Whether they are/should be incompatible is another story.

That depends on your BUG mod settings.

"Just".

Seems I made a mistake in the code.

What do you mean? If you mean "did you really raze only three cities?" then yes - I pretty sure I counted correctly. (Specifically Damascus, Ankara, and Karachi)

If you mean "a -7 malus per city seems appropriate", then city razing may as well not be in the game. And if this malus is permanent, then this seriously goes against the intent of the stability overhaul, which (as I'm sure as you know) is to get rid of permanent stability modifiers.

City razing is supposed to be severely punished- it prevents quite a few exploits. However, the modifier goes away after a few turns.

I have this too (all land units).

Weirdly, it worked for a while, but then when went back to play later the bonus had disappeared.
That's the information I needed. Aka I'm dumb.

Neither. I mean that three cities is already a lot. The mechanism is built to tolerate the occasional raze. Since it is not permanent, the modifier has to be high to be a deterrent at all. You can still comfortably raze a couple of cities by waiting for the decay first.

Conquering sprees with multiple razed cities on the other hand will ruin your stability and that is intentional.

Where can I find the cityname map? I can fix Polish map (names are in wrong places because of adding 1 row of terrain).

Assets/Python/CityNameManager.py.

Is there any way to "project" it onto a map/into an Excel-esque sheet? Pretty hard to see stuff in Notepad.

You can just copy paste it, into OpenOffice at least.

Here it is:

I polonized some of the names. Others I changed altogether for wrong placement or low historical value. Examples:
Pskov->Psków
Riga->Ryga
Praha->Praga
Kovno->Kowno
Lwow->Lwów
Medvegalis->Klajpeda (Medvegalis isn't even a city, it's a battle site)
Cluj-Napoca->Debreczyn
Vinnica->Braclaw
Nikolaev->Mikolajów
Brest' Litovsk->Brzesc Litewski (if it doesn't fit, just leave "Brzesc")
Gomel->Czernihów
Buda->Budapeszt

I could also add some Polish names for far-off conquered cities (like Nowy Jork for New York, Londyn for London, Kair for Cairo, Bagdad for Baghdad, Pekin for Beijing and so on - with Poland's hunger for Independents, it might prove useful :> ).

I can't do anything with that, please give me the whole Polish settler map in a text file.

Additional dynamic names are appreciated, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to add them to the map because Poland rarely settles them.

Has anyone played the Rhye's and Fall of Asia mod here ? They have a couple of cool changes for the Asian civs which can and should be incorporated.

Additionally, I think something should be done about the small Tamil core. Why not make Indian core territory "foreign" for them instead of "Foreign core" ?
