Cybrxkhan's Leaderhead Thread

Fine fine fine fine fine! :p

I'll learn shaders on the LH right after the one I'm doing right now, okay (I'm attempting a slightly more complicated set-up, so I'm trying to get it to work right)? :)

I've decided to post another preview of the progress I'm making with Merkurios. He's actually almost done, but I just need to play around with the animations and that kind of stuff. After him, I'll go make my first shadered LH. :D

You know, I just want to say that a really nice touch would be to put a head on the Cheetah/Leopard cape thing. Looks good though.

EDIT: He'd actually be a great addition to my Nubian module for my new mod, if you'd like I could help you out with him a bit, maybe on the texturing, for example it looks like you've used the helmet of a unit. I could help you make it a bit less like it is from a unit.

ALRIGHT! Merkurios is done (he was actually easier than Dhu Nuwas, despite the slightly more complex structure). He's a bit rough (thanks to the different animation, but it works okay in my opinion), but I like him, and, he'll (hopefully) be my last non-shadered LH. I'll be using him for my Makuria Civ of the Week, replacing the old Merkurios LH (which was a blatant reskin of Ekmek's excellent Marcus Antonius LH (it was Ekmek, right?))

DOWNLOAD MERKURIOS HERE, and happy holidays!

The real Merkurios probably wasn't that mentally unstable looking, so far as we know. :D

Hey, didn't notice this before. Anyhow, I did nick the helmet off a unit (Bakuel's Medieval Nubian Heavy Cavalry to be exact), and yeah, I mean the texture for it works pretty fine as it is, but some work on it wouldn't hurt.

Although I haven't actually done any advanced-level texturing, I don't think I would have a problem playing around with textures; problem is, this helmet comes from a unit, so the scale is a lot more... inconvenient to work with, if that makes any sense. I mean if you can help me that'd be great, since I really do like how this guy turned out. :)

Also, glad to hear you're thinking of using him! (although Merkurios is technically Medieval Nubian, not the Ancient Nubia everybody would be thinking of, not that it matters, he's Nubian anyways)

You can change the size of the texture file BTW so long as it has the same demensions. I assume it is a 128. You could make it 256 or 512 and then use a different texture on it. Also if you want better folds in the cape you could take the original file (from whatever LH you got it from, I assume this is from Ragnar) remove the saturation, mess with the brightness or whatever, then turn the white to alpha, which will leave you with the black shadowing and folds, copy that, and then paste it over your texture which will make it look more realistic.

^Alright; thanks for the tips; I'm starting to notice there's some slightly bigger problems with this guy (the sides of the helmet, for example, don't connect up too nicely with the rest of the helmet, so I may opt to just remove the sides), so, yeah. I don't really feel like coming back to fix him at the moment, but I will, probably when I make a shadered version of him long down the road...

nice one!

Here's tips to improve it (down the road)

of course add shaders ;)

but you can click on the helmet in nifskope and add a stencil property so it doesnt have invisible parts

on the sharp edges of the helmet if you highlight them then choose subdivide in edit mode (in blender) then use the smooth function it will look more rounded

and it was pencilgod that did mark antony

Alright, just wanted to give a quick preview of my next LH; he isn't anything as impressive as my previous LHs, in my opinion, but I think he's okay. Basically I want a simpler Leaderhead when I play around with the shaders. I'll probably finish him up tomorrow, shouldn't be too hard.

(and don't worry, he'll be shadered by then, I (hopefully) promise)

I'll be using him as Bilge Khan in my upcoming Gokturk Civ of the Week civ.

I rather like him to be honest, though I think that he could use some shoulder pieces of some sort. Even some based on Alexander's might look cool.

I think you should make his head look more round by trying to change the shape of the hair.

^I'll probably do either that or give him some kind of hat thing.

He's gonna have a hat now. :D I'll post a preview later - actually, no, I'm actually almost done with him so I'll release him by tonight anyways and his Civ as my holiday "gift"/"work"/"whatever".

I can't believe it's not Bilge.

For Christmas, I proudly present my first shadered leaderheaad (well, partially shadered, some of the parts I couldn't get shadered since I guess I used nonshadered nifs or whatever, but still, partially shadered is still shadered, right?).

He's kind of simple, I admit, but I like him. And I had fun with the animations. Anyhow...

DOWNLOAD HIM HERE, AND HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

Marital arts, I guess?

There guys, I made a shadered LH. Happy? :)

There guys, I made a shadered LH. Happy? :)

The question is: are you happy? Do you see it wasn't hard and scary at all? Now, that you learned how to add shaders your LHs will look a lot better. It is one thing to build a good LH, but it is a totally different thing to make it look good. Shaders help you turn a great idea to a great LH. You've done your first step- this LH looks great!:goodjob:

^Personally myself shaders don't make much a difference to me, i.e. I don't really mind it with or without; however, I guess that's also since my laptop is pretty old, so it sometimes can't handle, er, "better" graphics.

However, having shiny LHs is fun in its own way.

Shaders do TEND to make an LH look better, but they certainly aren't necessary. Look at cfkane's. He doesn't shader his (well most of them anyway) and they look phenomenal. So, while it does help in many situations, sometimes it isn't necessary depending on the LH and the environment you are setting it in that is.
