Weird how everyone and their mother hates the US...but everyone and their mother loves the AID!

In the same way that people hate pushy government officials, but typically like charities?

Charity is voluntary, government is compulsory. It may be to meet good social ends, but its mechanisms for enforcement are ultimately different and are so viewed differently by some people.

I would not abolish the state nor all of the social welfare, I’m just saying the crux of where people will find fault is how the two systems work.

The US constitutes about half of rich world GDP. If you think rich countries should be doing foreign aid, then necessarily that means a lot should be coming from the US.

They give less aid as a percentage of GDP than most other rich countries, but in volume terms the amount is still a big proportion of aid.

From an article I co-wrote today for the ABC

Australian football teams are rapidly getting older on average, a rise of a scale and speed last seen caused by world wars or the scrapping of the Coulter Law system of player payment caps, which was a big milestone in the full professionalisation of the league.

I was immediately about to assume it was improvements in injury recovery medicine but then I finished the sentence. Very interesting!

The US really is a wildly more unequal society, it's about as unequal as the entirety of Europe taken together. Huge hidden (for visitors) underclass with very little, untouchable super wealthy also largely hiding I suppose.

given that economic growth is driven by energy and is exonential, this linear graph going from what looks like exponential growth until 2005 to linear growth feels like maybe its optimistic.

So, more media people have died in Gaza in less than two years than died collectively in all wars of the 20th Century? Then either Israel is the militarily most incompetent state to have ever existed or they were deliberately targetting them...

Haven't you heard? almost all of those were Hamas members who took part in the October 7th attacks and personally burned 50 babies alive each. To say otherwise is Antisemitic blood libel.
