Even in terms of arable land per capita we have the lowest population density in the world.

Water issues are more economic than physical - farming is water intensive and geared for export. Including dry cattle land nearly half the country is under productive agricultural use, with a further 15% being forest.

There is probably no reason why double or triple the coastal urban population should make an appreciable dent on total water demand, because it needn't carry through to more farming. At a stretch, it raises water market prices, diverts more water from irrigation, and pushes towards more recycling and desalination.

Should have another circle next to it showing the size of US debt to itself for comparison purposes. One huge misunderstanding that is perpetuated by neat graphs like this is that foreigners don't hold all the debt - I don't even know if they hold a majority of it.
