Isn't the energy requirement to get out of Earth's gravity well pretty drastically increased by the presence of its atmosphere?

No, the atmosphere is a small portion of the total energy to get to orbit (it's less than 5% IIRC). The bigger problem the atmosphere raises is that you have to deal with how it affects your spacecraft - you will have aerodynamic, pressure and heat related issues when flying in an atmosphere that you won't have to deal with off planet.

Hmm is that a function of how deep into the crust that the plates go or how high the mountains/ground level goes above sea level?

nvm, the legend clearly shows it's the former

I kinda get why the evil line is denoted as it is and the true neutral one but I don't see why the other five are placed in the positions they are in

Only farmers have an honest profession

I feel like day laborers on farms would disagree

free farmers only :)

As we say in Dutch
Pulled out of the clay down to earth terp (~mound) and dike builders making their own free soil behind the bog and peat to keep the barons away that live on sand anyway.

As a philologist and a Director of Photography in training, I wholeheartedly agree with the placement of IPA and CIE.

Seems to be a an almost direct correlation to "bad weather".
What does Kosovo have to do with it? I honestly don't get it. Are they a big source of drugs in Europe?

Afaik the biggest drug and human trafficking base in Europe. Moreover, the local mafia seems to be taking over in other countries.

There's a general election here in Ireland on Saturday and the opinion polls are all over the place - the above is from yesterday.

Sinn Féin for the first time are ahead in the polls. How that will translate into seats remains to be seen.

They used the polls to get into a leaders debate last night that was supposed to be between the big two parties.

Only Fianna Fáil or Fine Gael (or its precursors) have ever led a government in this country since independence a century ago, but (probably for the better) this dominance seems to have broken down.

I haven't decided how I will vote yet, but it won't be for Sinn Féin.

The Green Party might make a comeback as their vote will probably be concentrated in urban areas.

Sinn Féin will probably be taking votes from the splintered far left protest parties and independents.

The outgoing government was very weak but wasn't pulled down to give focus to the Brexit negotiations. Once it was clear they would pass the need for an election was overwhelming. It took an age to form a government last time but who knows what will happen now.

At least one country knows how to do it then...

Wow with that SF vote, Ireland soon will be a republic

Isn't Ireland already a republic?
