DaNES I: At the Precipice

OOC: Wow man dont be so generous

TO: Spanish Empire
FROM: Kingdom of Belgium
CC: Entente Members and Triple Alliance

After much negotiation with our allies in the United States of America. The Kingdom of Belgium recognizes a state of war between the Emperor of Spain and the Government of Belgium. This declaration of war is however not aimed at the Entente, French Empire and United Kingdom of Great Britain mainly, but one of aid to our allies who have been attacked. We see this declaration as one of fighting terrorism. The false claims of innocence by the Spanish crown are unacceptable and dishonorable. Terrorizing the waters of a sovereign nation or any waters which may be freely traveled by ships of any nations is a crime. The Spanish Emperor is no more than a low-down-scum criminal. We will see it through that he is brought to justice.

The requests of the United States of America are backed up by the Kingdom of Belgium.

The New Day is a Marxist inspired magazine focused on intellectual and urban issues, such as governmental policy. The following is a sample editorial that appeared shortly after yet another factory strike was broken up by the Chinese military.

Editorial:
When Strength is Not Enough to Be Strong

I was at a funeral the other day. It was the funeral of one of the heroes of the people, Li Wei, who died when a soldier hit him with the butt of his rifle as Li Wei was participating in a worker’s strike. I happened to be standing near the family, so that when I bowed my head as the coffin was about to be lowered to the ground, I could hear Li Wei’s little girl, who couldn’t have been more than three. “Mommy,” I could hear her insistently asking, “Why are they putting Daddy in the ground? He won’t be able to play with me if he’s in the ground.”

Tell me, Most Honored Prime Minister, is this your vision of strength? A vision where little girls grow up without their fathers, a vision where widows are forced to sell their bodies to buy food for their family? Tell me, Most Wise Prime Minister, is it for this reason that you built up your fine little army? Did you turn the bravest and best of our countries sons into soldiers so that they could brutally kill a peace-loving father?

“But,” I hear the government snivel, “but isn’t this what you wanted? Did you not want a strong army, a strong China?” Is it for this reason we sought strength? Did we call for the emergence of a new, stronger China so that the corrupt government can more easily oppress the people? For what reason did we beg for a strong army, to create a strong shield to defend our people or to create a strong whip to oppress them?

For I say to you now, this China is not strong! For its so-called strength is the strength of the oppressors. It is the strength only to kill, not heal, it is the strength to destroy, not build, it is the strength to oppress, not liberate. But to be truly strong, one must have the strength of the people!

Then what is this strength of the people that China so desperately needs if she is to be truly strong? It is the strength of the factory worker who defies the corrupt factory owner who seeks only to exploit him. It is the strength of the farmer who defies the corrupt land owner who lounges about because of his hard work. It is the strength of the soldier who defends the cause of equality against those who would seek to use them to enforce inequality. In short, it is the strength of the oppressed when they throw off the chains that have held them down. It is the strength that comes when they have broken out of the prison that the oppressors keep them in and burn it to the ground so that no more will people be oppressed, but all will be equally comrades. It is the strength that allows the strong to bend down and the weak to rise up, so that such distinctions as strong and weak are done away with, and there remains only China, united and equal!

To Spanish Empire, United States
From Republic of Brazil
CC: World

We will not tolerate Spanish submarines attacking the ships of our allies just outside of our coastal waters, nor will we tolerate the Spanish puppets in Columbia wantonly massacring their citizens.

The Republic of Brazil formally issues a deceleration of war against the Spanish Empire and their puppets the oppressive Columbian government.

OOC: If this wasn't an NES based around global war, I'd advise you to take Thayli's offer.

However, as the whole purpose we're playing is to represent the failure of peaceful negotiations...

[Lurker]That's odd, I could have sworn you stealth-edited there...[/Lurker]

Battlefields in Belgium? Why so?

To: Brazil, Belgium, and USA
From: The Mighty Empire of Spain

We thought America would desire reason over foolishness. You throw the lives of your sons to their deaths. We declare war on you as you are all blind to a misunderstanding and will not see reason. Fight us if you wish. America we shall overcome you.

Yeah, ~Darkening~, don't prey on nubs. It's not very nice to destabilize the British government.

Bah! I offered him very generous terms! Hmm....turns out I'm going to have fun no matter what I'm doing ;).

To the United States of America, Republic of Brazil, Kingdom of Belgium, and the German Empire; To the Spanish Empire, and to the United Kingdom.
From Napoleon V.

What does it state about the world we live in that the tides of war come so quick? That in the place of patientence and good will to one another, men to greedily cling to their clubs and guns like barbarians; poised to strike at each other with a vengence benefiting of none. I have heard many of you- in your fits of self-righteous anger- cast the good Emperor Carlos in a bad light. A warmonger, you call him; a fool, you assume him, a tyrant you declare. Yet I see the same flaws in him in all of you. A blind man may have predicted the coming of the times of war; yet a wise man can produce the hope for a prevailing peace.

My dear President Coolige, a wolf in sheeps clothing, you will not force Spain from France's side. If anything, your foolish demand that Spain remove herself from the Entente is nothing more that a direct provocation aimed at expanding this war- something that your 'allies' must know. While demanding the tyrant Carlos abadon the majority of his empire, you seek to establish your own- who are YOU to demand that an entire empire be turned to you for nothing? Since when did America leave her high horse of ideals- ignoring freedom to ensure her Southern Empire, ignoring the value of peace to expand your own gains, and ignoring the calls of the world for peace- not war. Forgive my understanding of American history, but did the Monroe doctrine not prohibit the interfering of European nations with independent American nations- not colonies- much less colonies where the majority enjoy their protection of their homeland from their northern tyrants. Take heed my friend- remove your petty threats and let us discuss possible outcomes. Anything less will result in France's- and undoubtly the entire Entene- aiding their ally against the tyranny and hypocracy of fools.

Good Albert- you swine! You dare such a forward standing? Let this be known this second- any actions of war by Belgium will result in immediate declaractions of war by both France and the United Kingdom. Your flat-faced betrayal of the British shows how low you have sunk in these days. Do not think for a second that either France or the United Kingdom have not seen your betrayal. I do not care if you parade yourself as a member of the Triple Alliance or not- you should know your place as a neutral nation, not a wishful warmonger. The day Belgium backs anything up will be the day she sees Brussels burn- this, my friend, is a threat.

Let it be known that there is still a chance for peace! Let the arrogance of the New World be washed away and let the tides of peace continue! France is willing to discuss the establishment of minor states within the regions of Mexico and , through they shall not come close to area in what the United States wishes nor will they be paid. Rather, France would support the estabilishment of domestic-independent minor states (no larger than Belgium in area), those who wish so desperetly for freedom in that region may move to these states and be so justly free.

Either that or Spain complies with the the United State's suggestions and the United States recognizes the rights of the southern states to secede. Fair is only fair.

France will fight to defend her good friend- no matter against who.

OOC: What a murkey incident, apart from not making sense. (A submarine having destroyed a target continues to remain in the area to kill people, yet the spainish have the best submarines and by association submarine doctrine.) Now of course we don't actualy know about the mutiny, but that marxist captain was an idiot.

But anyway the incident is a nice cause for war. It just depends if everyone in the world is up to it

PLEASE! Kal you should know better than anyone than believed a word the becomes associated with Thlayli ;). I mean, out of nowhere, Wubba just decides to blow peace to the wind and attack American shipping? The second anyone read that section they should have known that it was mostdefinitly not a Spanish command. After all, a few ships are attacked, and all of a sudden two powers are declaring their demand for the destruction of a power sided against them- a power with a large region bordering them? I'd be shocked if Thy wasn't the one behind the Mexican/Columbian revolts in addition (either that or Silver).

And yeah, I'm around 97% sure that Wubba had nothing to do with that attack. So, go ahead and fight for your little pretenses. I just hope everyone else is paying attention to how low they're willing to sink in order to get what they want.

And yeah, I'm around 97% sure that Wubba had nothing to do with that attack.
Decloak: Or, since Spain is in fact missing a submarine, and that implies Thayli somehow managed to commandeer it, replace the crew with loyals, and then promptly blew those skillful commando personnel up (along with the high-tech Spanish submarine, one of the best in the world), one can employ Occam's Razor, which in turn points to Murphy's Law, and that, in turn leads us to Hanlon's Razor:

Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

Or, as the British would say it,

Cock-up before conspiracy.

It'd have been much easier to just ape Poncho Villa and massacre a few American border towns if he wanted to rile up attention, among several other things. So, you may conclude that Thlayli is an idiot-savant master conspiracist, somehow pulling off a ridiculously overcomplicated plot to pin the blame on Spain, or Spanish commanders (and Spanish Marxist revolutionaries) are just idiots.

One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't fit...

OOC: Good job on making my people have a reason for war dark. I was waiting for French aggression.

Frankly, as a neutral, I think that the Triple Alliance is very much in the wrong here. Vive la France! Good luck Spain! May peace be brought about before war needs start!

~Darkening~: immensely annoying when he's on the opposite side, very right and a jolly good fellow when he's on our side. ;)

If we ignore the fact that it's obviously Thlayli, a Spanish Marxist captain (if we assume that he isn't just a big fan of the book, but rather is a professional or at least amateur revolutionary) would typically want to cause as much international strife as possible. True, the incident was stupid and he could've done much more if he tried, but thanks to Thlayli the "crisis of the imperialist system" is going to begin very early indeed if we don't nip it in the bud. Which we probably won't.

Greece declares war on Canada, citing their annoying neutrality. Our massive invasion force will reach Newfoundland in three weeks.

dark, I never suggested Thy/wubba did it. I specifically put the blame towards the marxist captain that we don't actually know about. If anything point your finger towards Dachs.

On the actual situation, I suppose the common way to resolve it is generally paying an indemity and making an apology. Unless you want a war, in which case you make the sweeping demands suggested by Thy :p
