D'Artagnan01: Low-level Training Day

No, they do have Uranium; it's in the SE of their territory, about two cities from our border.
It's in St.Regis to be exact.

On a related note, I also noticed something during my turnset.
Two_Choices.JPG

We have a choice. Either have happiness throughout France and keep research like it is, or research one turn faster but shut down the lux slider. During my turns, I prefered to keep the happiness just because I didnt want to take a risk.

Yes, I was going to change that; this is very much a race, there's no time to stop and look at the scenery, let them be miserable.

What effects do they have on AI cities? Do they pollute the 9 tiles around the city and kill off all the units inside the city?

I suspect TGOM wouldn't sanction ROP rape.

@CommandoBob's Plan: I dont know if Bede will approve of a ROP-Rape Tactic...

You both got that right. Don't need it, don't want it, don't ever use it!

I was wondering when you guys were going to twig to the overgrown treasury and what to do with it. 29K will buy a lot of Modern Armor and Cruise Missiles and pay for a lot of spy missions. If Hiawatha is Fascist or Communist be prepared for war, if any other government less of a risk.
Just be aware that we have strategic resources at risk in any war with Hiawatha.

Only thing wrong with the use of nukes, everyone else in the world will declare on you unless you are in an alliance against the nuked nation. So plan carefully....and be ready for trouble.

One turn here or there on research is neither here nor there. Having WLTKD bustin' out all over gets more shields in the bin and that is really the limiting factor right now.

And Happy Holidays to the gang of four!

Ok team, we are - as far as I can judge - 22 turns away from launch, and I believe we have one last big tactical decision to make.

I am still pre-turn but I have managed to sucessfully plant a spy on Hiawatha.
His report makes for some interesting reading. As expected Hiawatha has begun building his ship, with one part completed and two in the pipieline.

His military has a very strange make-up, consisting of 90 Mech Infantry and very little else. No nukes, a handful of bombers, no a/a, and strangest of all no tanks.

We will probably win this in a straight race, and could handle any invasion attempt even if Hiawatha suddenly decides to build MA when he gets SF.
It is likely however, that he will have Satellites before long, and that allows ICBM's, which makes me a little uncomfortable.

There is no question in my mind that if you give me the green light I could deprive them of their sole source of Uranium in a couple of turns; their cities are so close I wouldn't even need combat settlers. And Egypt has the only spare source of Uranium, which they are far too backward to even see.

The decision each of us must consider is which direction to take; do we continue as we are towards likely victory or do we use this narrow window of opportunity to wrap up the game for certain.

I should add that all the major strategic resources (aluminium, both sources of oil, and both rubbers) are within reach of our bombers; they have one fighter, no a/a.

The victory is certain in any case. Starting a war will only prolong it. If it makes you feel more secure, cash rush half a dozen really big rockets, or even tactical nukes.

The big risk is that should a war start and any SS parts are destroyed that ends our space shot, as you don't ever get the option to rebuild.

The nuclear targeting for the AI aims at resources rather than cities, by the way, so if somebody should happen to drop Fat Boy it will be on uranium or aluminum or rubber.

Interesting that you are thinking like the AI :hmm:

I was referring to 'Bomber' aircraft, Bede; is bombing the enemy's resources not a tactic that you employ?

OK, that's one for the status quo; any further views?

Depends on the situation. Generally I want the resource and I prefer to force a regime change, so I will target cities and troops. If the opponent has already adopted Fascism and I don't plan to occupy the territory and the alternative means losing the war I will bomb them back to the Stone Age, concentrating on the road net first.

I don't think I have ever used nukes in C3C, though I have had them used upon me.

With respect, Bede, I disagree that it would prolong victory; the positioning of their Uranium is so close to the border that we would take it in the first one or two turns of the war. I would bet my house that they would be ready to talk in 6 turns, minus their ability to build SS parts or Nukes.

I should add though, that I'm not actually advocating war; I thought it was an option worthy of team discussion.

Pre-turn:

Plant spy on Hiawatha; he has an impressive tally of Mech Infantry (90) but surprisingly no tanks. Neither does he have nukes...hmm.

He has begun his SS - as expected - but has only completed 1 part, with 2 in the pipeline.

There are some very slack city builds going on: Courthouses, due to finish sometime next millenium; Offshore Platform in a city working one coastal tile; Stock Exchanges? On 100% science? Bede wrote a very long and illuminating piece on SE's a few pages back - somebody didn't read it. :nono:

Switch every city build bar two to military builds, spend lots of cash rushing them.

Move Arty from Little France to the mainland.

Wake Workers and use them to plant forest along our border with Hiawatha to act as a tank-trap. Just in case.

Upgrade 10 tanks to MA.

Up Science to 100%, Superconductors in 3.

Enter:

I'm afraid I lack CBob's panache and patience when it comes to turnlogs, and it seems a bit pointless listing what was built where at this stage of the game, so I'm going to log salient facts or screenies only.

It's pretty much all over now, just over one set should do us.
We need 2 more SS parts; I haven't begun any pre-builds yet. The next one is only 160 shields, the last one 320, so it's down to the next player.
We now have sufficient military to withstand any threat from Hiawatha.

I'm afraid I lack CBob's panache and patience when it comes to turnlogs...
When I started doing turn logs I didn't know what was important or not and I knew I was not wise enough to see the difference. So I just recorded everything.
