Because the first people who got religions created annoying ones like Celto-Catholicism which are tailored towards a specific cultural sphere and thus don't do much for the rest of us, or Catharism which comes with its own set of promptings.

That said, Im hopeful that the Russian Orthodox Church and the Oriental Catholic Church can see past national pride and self-aggrandisement and enter into full communion with the Orthodox Catholic Church, as sui-iuris Churches, and of course Orthodox Catholicism has a good following now, which would be increased if certain germanic states converted to the true religion.

Speaking of Trade, may we please have a explanation of that mechanic; I can't spot anything in detail in the first post. May we trade any distance, through any number of unclaimed lands or seas? Or do we need a border connection or safe passage through neighbouring lands etc.

What is the state of ocean travel? Can nations sail across oceans freely with armies? Can we pick specific destinations on unknown continents? Is a specific level of naval tech required to explore oceans? Can Pearl River trade with England or Spain now? Or do I have to have X naval tack and somehow find England or be found by them?

Trade is automatic. Trade modifiers are granted through trade agreements, events, etc. Ocean travel is possible but long-distance jobs such as China to Spain, going around the Cape of Africa, technology, and other factors affect the chance of strangeness happening, such as getting knocked off course or ships sinking.
