Atheism is not a religion.
Why not? To say that one thing is not a type of another thing generally requires a clear definition for both.

Religion is a reasonable connection of series of superstitions; atheism denies such a connection;communism reinstalls the connection;pagans and modern cults refuse the reason and become more superstitious.

I single out no single religion either, be it paganism, christianity, hinduism, islam, they all perpetuate the same.
...and it's just naive to claim atheism as a religion in any sense. If someone worships darwin, sure, cry religion, but then that's not atheism is it?

I love watching atheists get their panties in a bunch when people call atheism a religion. I'm an atheist and it doesn't bother me.
They're just doing it to get a reaction.
And frankly, I don't care if it's a religion or not. If it is, it's a pretty damn non-intrusive one since I don't have to do anything or believe anything.

I just don't get why some people want to define atheism as a religion so hard. Why? It just doesn't work, you can stop trying.
A religion is a belief system centered around a spiritual dogma that describes some way of living a better life. It usually involves the supernatural and a prophet who was enlightened enough to describe this dogma to the rest of us.

Best thing about the Atheist Religion is that it is the only one that hasn't caused its followers to murder/rape/plunder other people because of their different religions.

Religion is an attempt to answer questions one deems ascendant of reality, such as "Why are we here" and "Where do we go when we die". Typically, religions seek to answer these through faith-based, un-disproven assumptions. If an element of supernatural belief is not present, it should be considered an ideology.

Religion can be many things. It can be a mechanism set in place to clearly define certain rules for the good of society. It can also be the misuse of these rules to oppress certain groups in society, such as in Medieval England. Religion can be the belief in something because you need to believe, you need comfort and happiness, you need the unanswered questions explained, and the feeling that it's all going to be alright. Religion can also be used to make you feel superior to others, though, in my opinion, this is one step away from the misuse definition.

I'm more of an agnostic than an atheist and it doesn't really bother me.. it's just and ignorant statement that needs to be beaten out of people's heads, if they really believe it.. much like if somebody thought 2+2=6.
