The poll's choices are too low.

Why is that? What options are lacking? No $15 million USD option  ?

My definition of rich is of someone with investable assets of $10 million. Being able to afford penthouses in downtown in a few global cities (Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong for example), can easily afford Mercedes S-Class and Aston Martin. I am still working hard towards that level.

It is true, as some of you have said here. A rich life is a life full of love. A person full of love lives a happier life than a materially rich person but poor spiritually. IMHO, working towards materially rich life does not necessarily clashes with one's desire to have a spiritually rich life.

The purpose of this poll is to understand the CFC'ers perception of the rich.

Actually, I decided about a decade ago that $15 million was my mark for defining 'wealthy'.
The problem with only having $15 million is that you don't have enough capital to jumpstart various projects you'd like to see and live a life of guaranteed luxury.

Here's a good 'spiritual' question: What's the point of the penthouses and the Aston?

Glory and testament to the power of God (although it's very Calvinist and that's not something I like). I ask you, what was the point of ornate and beautiful European Cathedrals?

She probably meant if you are compelled to work because of financial survival.

Mercedes S-Class? *yawn*

That's exactly why I wrote earlier that rich is to own the means of production. If you can control capital make things, then you are rich. Until then, you are not actually rich, you are simply monied or well off.

Ability to have one's most basic needs met without having to worry about the financial means to do so. Basically a worry-free living. :dunno:

You can own a smaller means of production for far less than $1mill.

It's pretty geographically, demographically, and psychographically relative, this is true. But whereas if you have the country's only working blender you are smoothie rich, to own enough means of production that you can ride the wave of this economy and not be beholden to others requires many tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions or billions of dollars.

Not at all true. You don't need to own GM or Boeing to own a business that generates a nice income. Most businesses aren't worth more than $1mill.

Sure. And after that, sell off the property you acquired, give the proceeds to the poor and follow Jesus. Is that a deal? That's what the Bible says.

PS: At least cathedrals can claim to not be owned by private individuals.

I don't claim to get it, I just think that's how they reconcile it.

But at the time they were built they were vanity projects for the Bishop.
