Was it the skittles?
It's always something.

But you're right. This is sub-skittle offensive. Skittles would have brought the door crashing in for a nighttime impromptu execution session.

Run away far enough that they have to chase and they'll get salty and kill the wife and kids first. Still never apologized for that one and they never will. Which fits. It's not like they're sorry any of it happens.

But we're supposed to be? Sure. Let's get right on it?

"something" is doing a lot of work there.

Indeed.

Who is "they"?

Who is "we"?

All of us shifting around, if you want the royal picture. But if we want a specific they they, one that fits an instance of the specific example, the US Federal Marshals can stand in. Followed up with the same specific people at Waco, TX, the next year too. Everything according to the royal plan.

But I'll take it as sufficient to use in one-on-one conversational.

Here is a recent poll of 1000 registered voters.

Young adults raised some eyebrows once again.

41% of voters aged 18-29 find the killer’s actions acceptable (24% somewhat acceptable and 17% completely acceptable), while 40% find them unacceptable

Prosecutors need to weed out young jury members for this case during jury selection.

A Manhattan grand jury on Tuesday indicted Luigi Mangione for murder as an act of terrorism in the death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, according to newly released court documents.

Mangione faces 11 counts, including one of murder in the first-degree and two of murder in the second-degree in Thompson’s killing on December 4 in New York, along with other weapon and forgery charges, the indictment says.

Prosecutors accuse the 26-year-old of killing Thompson “in furtherance of an act of terrorism,” which is legally defined by an intent to intimidate or coerce the civilian population or a government unit.

I thought they had to pick and choose between first or second degree.
Shows what I know.
3 murder chargers. :hmm:

Well ...that's also a reason why military service is geared towards the younger. Not only because they're fitter. But also because they're more responsive to groupthink and collectively violent decision-making.
I can't imagine a world run by the young. It would be nightmarish.

Well, can't exactly say the older generations are doing a bang up job either.

Basis of comparison?

The young may pull the trigger but it isn't the young telling them to do it. Who do you think military decisions and sweeping legislations are made by? It's not the 26-year-old.

I think Odysseus also said it to Achilles in the movie Troy...

edit: for the other Albertan: how do you not know ACW == Americal Civil War?
(this being a Civ game site I mean) of course, could just be standard BrainFart(tm) striking.
:D

"The other Albertan" has a name, thankyouverymuch. If you're going to address me, I prefer 'Valka' as that's what people call me here. Or tag my username, if you prefer.

If you could take a look at my posting history, my Civ-related posts are mostly in the Civ II forum, and most of those are to do with Civ II: Test of Time. So if you're going to use Civ as a reason why I should know that particular item of alphabet soup, you're mistaken. Most of my post-original Civ games have either been the Fantasy/Midgard scenario or the Lalande scenario. You won't find the Americans or any of the other mainstream factions in either of those. Even in the Original Extended scenario I always played the Alpha Centauri faction.

I am into history, but American history is too recent for my preferences, and in any case not much of it was taught in the school systems I was in. Most of what I know has come from independent reading, documentaries, casual online conversations, and news articles. I still find their electoral process baffling, as it sounds so chaotic. Give me ancient, Classical, or medieval/Renaissance, and I'm happy.

Acronyms are sometimes amusing, though. Remember when Harper hijacked the old Progressive Conservative party, mashed it together with the Canadian Alliance, tried to hijack the Progressive Conservative name along with it, and wasn't allowed to do so? I nearly fell off my chair laughing when I read that at one of their meetings to pick a new party name, someone came up with "Conservative Reform Alliance Party" - and they nearly adopted it, until someone said, "Waitaminute, do you realize what that spells?"

Pity that person noticed. It would have been hilarious. And it describes the current party perfectly.

Do you always have to add a derogatory term to MAGA?
As Birdjaguar said, MAGA adds nothing of value - and I'll extend that to the far right here in Canada, Alberta in particular, who are such enthusiastic cheerleaders for it. My view is that Alberta was already great, until Kenney got his mitts on it and Smith and her buddies have exacerbated things beyond all reason. Now I'm constantly having to point out to Alberta-bashers that we didn't all vote for the <mess> that this province has become.

I rather suspect we're on opposite sides of the political spectrum.

Keeping a pile of evidences on yourself for days on end is hardly "a small detail", though.

This is something I've been wondering. Why on earth would anyone keep the murder weapon around, knowing that it's the main piece of evidence that would get them convicted if they were caught.

I guess this guy never watched Columbo.

MAGA in the US has nothing to do with what the words mean. We have lived with those folks for 9+ years and understand their cult leader and goals pretty well. They do not offer anything of value to the country and are the most divisive force in US politics in recent years.

How do you imagine such a "uncivil war" unfolding if not with large groups of armed people trying to take over the country by force? Red states leaving the union? Red states invading blue states? Militias taking over state governments and rounding up democrats? Bombing the offices of the NYT, WaPo and MSNBC?

It's almost as if some of the sides have decided to take The Handmaid's Tale not as a warning, but as a how-to manual for oppression (it's an unpopular opinion on the review channels to point out that there were a lot of ordinary men who also suffered from the actions of the Sons of Jacob when they destroyed the U.S. government and established the Republic of Gilead).

Well ...that's also a reason why military service is geared towards the younger. Not only because they're fitter. But also because they're more responsive to groupthink and collectively violent decision-making.

Are you familiar with Logan's Run? The novel, not the movie. The reason why that society was set up that way was due to overpopulation, not nuclear war. Last Day was at age 21, and most people lived lives pursuing pleasure, whether from sex, drugs, or other idle pursuits. The nightmare part of it was how everyone was brainwashed from infancy to accept this, that it was indecent and immoral to want to live even one day past their 21st birthday, and that the Sandmen who pursued and killed the Runners were heroes. The young people gave control of their lives over to a master computer called The Thinker.

AI is already being given too much control over people's lives, as is the case with this health insurance company's denial of critical services to people who subsequently died.

Okay so name one

Correct me if I am wrong, but AI doesn't exist in the form, where it can control lives. Chatbots can enhance lives or make them worse, but they function at the pleasure of their users (and it seems less and less people are using chatbot toy to solve serious problems). Furthermore, insurance has no need for AI, being, in essence, a bunch of rather simple mathematical formulas designed to pay for the expenses of some using proceeds gathered from many, while retaining profits for the one performing the motions. These formulas are known for hundreds of years, general concepts are known for thousands of years. Barely anything new is needed there.

Okay so name one
Name one what? I asked a question about a book, pertaining to the idea that a society run by the young would be nightmarish and violent. The society in the book is run by a computer that was programmed to think and brainwash the people it controls to accept that it's okay to kill healthy people who turn 21 years old.

I have no idea what you expect me to "name."

Correct me if I am wrong, but AI doesn't exist in the form, where it can control lives.
Did I hallucinate reading that the CEO guy who was killed recently was in charge of a company that used AI to routinely deny critical health care coverage to people who subsequently died because they didn't get the surgeries and other care they needed to live?
