I'm posting a map in the hopes of seeing the different ways people like to play the early game. If you want to give it a go, see how fast you can get to some of these landmarks:
  • 3/4/5/6 cities (or how fast can you get any arbitrary number of cities up)
  • 100/200 beakers per turn (or any arbitrary number)
  • A certain key tech or wonder
  • Certain total population level
The goal is just to experiment, maybe a little competitively, to see how efficiently we can develop in the early game. Probably only the first 100-150 turns would be relevant for the challenge.

The map settings:
  • Immortal difficulty
  • Fractal
  • No huts, no events
  • Leader - Justinian

I encourage you to install it, young lady

OP please do mention mods if used

Here's me at Turn 100:

Spoiler :
9 cities...35 pop...122 beakers

You can see when cities settled in game. 4th city woulda been a few turns sooner but I had no protection for the settler up north.

Met HC and Willie, but no one has alpha.. Economy has not been a problem, but game slow with no tech trading so far.

Tried passively for GLH but did not expect to get and didn't. No wonders. I have Aesths and Maths and moving toward Music line. Settled marble city on Island in S. GLH would have been good here..really should have pushed for it.

Nope I failed to scout that one tile until afterwards..not sure if I would have done differently..maybe if I had two settlers ready

Here's where I got as of T116:
Spoiler :

6 cities, 33 pop, 165 beakers at 100% tech, 100 beakers at break-even 60% tech
After getting the essential worker and food techs, I beelined Monarchy and then Math-Calendar to grow some large cities on the southeast, using the fish and cottaging the floodplains.
Haven't done much scouting, but now after just trading Calendar for IW, am starting to expand quickly to settle the jungle and scale my economy up.
Overall, my expansion started slow, but the economy is accelerating now - in the first ~90 turns I averaged about a 1.3% beaker growth rate/turn to get to 30 BPT (at breakeven slider), then since turn 90, around when I got Monarchy, I have been averaging about a 4.2% beaker growth rate/turn to get to 100 BPT at breakeven slider, where I am now. Monarchy + Currency + Academy are huge boosts for this.

Here's my go, though I don't like how things have gone. 6 cities, econ is crappy. Monarchy coming, academy coming. Bleh.

edit: I use BUG but the save should work

T100

9 cities, 33 pop, 167:science: @100%, 91:science: and 3:gold: @50%. Not building wealth or science. I reloaded just to squeeze the Currency in instead of going for MC and Colossus. For some reason I have 50:science: in Meditation, never wanted to research it. :) My GPP should have been much better, but I went along the roleplaying for short term benefits here. First GS in 9 turns. Built 4 Axes, many barbs killed. Lost a galley. Now is the worker build cycle to connect all those calendar resources. And got a lucky religion spread after less than 5T of meeting the Inca and revealing the cities.
