Different names for chavs

So, what are chavs called in your neck of the woods. Here in Penrith, they go by the name of 'lads,' for some stupid reason.

Idiots generally. During the school holidays they formed into mass shambling possies of up to 60 of them in my area, until the police turned up and moved them on.

I'm not sure if it is related, but that same weekend someone was stabbed to death in a pub in the same area. This is in a place where violence is pretty much non existent usually.

Fom what I can gather, chavs are pretty much just a British thing. Sure, there are similiar breeds elsewhere, but they differ in various ways.

Trailer trash is close, it's poor, uneducated and usually directionless disaffected youth. It's not like such sub cultures are a new thing, they are just more endemic these days.

Trailer trash is close, but they are generally not as rural as I understand trailer trash being.

Well, maybe close, but i'd say chav was as much a mentality as it is being poor or uneducated. Probably more so actually, given that i've grown up in the same area and went to the same schools as pleanty of chavs, yet they are chav and I am not.

True, but it is usually related to poverty and educational level. It tends to be more prevalent in poor areas, but of course that's just a factor not an indicator of whether you will be infected with the chav mentality.

We have gang-bangers. Which are far worse than any "Chav".

If you want, we can send some of our gang members over and get rid of the Chavs.

Now I thought that gang banging was something entirely different. It's a fair offer though, and I'd accept it if I could.
They were called Barries when I was younger, and here in Oxford are usually simply townies.

Where I live they are mostly just called chavs although I think they call themselves lads/gangsters. Not all chavs are necessarilly bad people, I was actually quite suprised at the alright-nes of some chavs I was talking to a little while ago. You have to laugh though. Especially at the wanabe ones that even the chavs don't like.

Maybe so. In regards to education I think's often the choice of a chav not to actually learn, given that the same level of education is actually open to them as it is to everyone else. For allw e slate the Labour government, when it comes to something like education Britain does actually have a high standard which is free at the point of use.
