Disciples of Christ (and gay friendly churches in general)

I'm curious about something. You said that your church does not condone "some gay stuff". Yet you say that they don't view homosexuality as a sin.

How can that be reconciled?

Like I said, we have no double standards against homosexuals that do not apply to heterosexual couples. We frown upon premarital sex for example, but that's regardless of whether the couple is gay or straight (and yes, we are pro gay marriage).

So I could have said 'we condone some straight stuff' just as easily and to the same effect.

Elements of homosexual culture do tend to be hypersexualized, and I could understand why a church that wants to be inclusive of homosexuals may not wish to engage with those elements.

Which is to say I could understand why I church would want to be inclusive of Barney Frank and James Ready but not, say, John Waters (or at least not the sexualized persona of John Waters).

So basically the church does not view homosexual sex as a sin as long as it happens between two people who are married?

Well yes, essentially. They should not be having sex in public, it must not be rape (yes, married couples can rape each other), and they both must be of legal age. As long as those conditions are met, we approve regardless of whether they are straight, bisexual, homosexual or asexual.

See Mark 10:2-9

That's the emphatic statement about divorce being wrong, QED, any Christian who gets divorced is no longer a Christian, right? How many "Christians" are left in the world?

Counterpoint:
Mark 22:36-40
John 13:34-35
Love doesn't equal sex.
Isn't judging others a sin also? I thought that was something Jesus said once.

Didn't he? Let God do the judging, you mind your own business? Something like that?

Jesus was against hypocritical judgement. Jesus judged people for what they did many times. Why do you think the religious leaders had Jesus killed? He was extremely scathing of them right before he was hung on the cross. Read Matthew 22 to hear what he said about the religious leaders of the time, it is fun reading.

I for one think Jesus one would be extremely scathing of anyone who discriminates against people just because of their sexual orientation, and if Jesus were alive today such people would want him crucified on a cross. After all, Jesus was a liberal Jew and such people have always hated them.

Given that Jesus failed to follow God's command to go forth and multiply, he had little room for being judgmental of others.

So, CH, no idea on the amount of 'fake' Christians in the world?

Yeah, but Jesus is God, so it's okay for him to judge. Didn't he say regular non-God folks shouldn't judge?

Luke 6:37 "Don’t judge others, and God won’t judge you. Don’t be hard on others, and God won’t be hard on you. Forgive others, and God will forgive you."

I for one think someone that I won't mention living in the land down under will eventually go to a land down lower.

That would require Hell to exist, rather than simply being a fundamentalist scare-story.

I don't think you know what 'fundamentalist' means.

I may be using it a bit liberally, but I fully expect that everyone who has ever told someone to take Jesus into their hearts or suffer eternal damnation will be greatly disappointed when they die.

I don't believe Christianity is the only path to God, it's just the path I've personally chosen.

edit: Regardless, the person in question has 'accepted Jesus into their heart' and I'm saying he's the one that will suffer eternal damnation, so I honestly don't know your point.

Oh likewise. It's completely illogical to suppose that an omni-benevolent and omnipotent creator deity would sentence anyone to any amount of damnation, whether they were Christian or otherwise.

Despite appearances to the contrary, central Scotland is not Hell. :)
