Do you go to a gym/health club?

Do you go?

We have free exercise facilities at my workplace, and get one free hour per week on the clock to spend in there. (We can use it more than that, but off the clock.) The facilities are fairly decent and include a couple of barbells plus a squat rack, although I still maintain a membership in the commercial gym near my home for scheduling reasons and because the workplace gym doesn't have quite everything I need (for instance, no dumbbells heavier than 35 kg). I typically go 3 or 4 times per week and take about half my workouts in the basement at work. Thinking about maybe entering some low-level powerlifting competition in the intermediate future.

I work at a college gym, so I'd have to vote "yes", even though my work schedule allows me no time to work out.

[X] No, I'm a germophobe and find the prospect of sharing sweaty equipment with other people thoroughly nauseating.

I have my own stationary bike and weight bench that I use.

I like going to the gym. For some reason I find it easier to exercise when I go there, I tried running and working out at home a couple of times, couldn't be bothered. I think its because theres other people there doing the same activity, some kinda peer thing.

Whats the difference between a gym and a health club?

A lot of people find this to be so.

Another related point is that you may find other people that you can learn something from. Sure there's a lot of bozos in your typical gym but, for instance, the local powerlifting club also lives at the gym I go to and now I am one of them. (Only done one meet so far but it was fun as hell and I am now ranked #11 in the country in my weight class... out of 12 guys who have competed so far this year; it's not exactly a mass sport.)

The gym where I live is called a 'weights club', but I think that's because instead of any permenant staff there members are just given a key and they can go when they want. It's actually a great system.

On a very good week, I'm in the 5 times a week, and another outside running on the roads. On a bad week, 4 times in the gym! Though come September I'll start work and not have the time :(

I have my own weights in my room but I don't really use them much, but I do walk to school and back every day (that I'm at school) and that's a good 30 minutes each way so I suppose that'll be enough

A mixture of "I can't be bothered" and "I can't afford the cost". More the former.

Yeah, that.

I'm sure I could afford it if I really wanted to, and I really need the increased fitness, but if I can't motivate myself to do things I like doing, I have no chance of motivating myself here.

I've been very lucky, my gym membership has only cost me £15.99/month this year!

That still adds up though, and will still be a lot for someone who has no money to spare at all. However, it doesn't stop them from going outside and taking a quick walk every once in a while ;)
