Dogs are smarter than cats.

It's really hard to be impressed by traits hard-coded into genes. A human humming a tune is definitely more impressive than even the most melodic tunes of a songbird. It takes far more to create neural connections than just merely expressing mRNA transcripts.
Well I hope mockingbirds impress you, at the very least.

Better response: DOWN WITH NOBS

Not saying that it's not impressive. It's just that I think intelligence is based on learning instead of instinct.

Why would you get a pet just so you can look as your ******** cat looks for the right time to go through a doorway? I might as well buy a lava lamp. They're cool to look at too.

Servility =/= intelligence.
Precisely. Being a cat owner is not the same thing as being intelligent.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a dog person

NOOO! NO THEY'RE NOT!!! Rubbish!!! Dirty anti-cat propaganda!!! Burn those so called scientists! :aargh:

 :run:

Is it more of a delicacy or a regular consumable? Which breeds would you say are the tastiest?

Dogs might be smarter in a strict sense, but they still act like idiots most of the time while cats do not.

Oh and I would eat dog. Don't see the issue about it really.

Yeah.

People don't get cats cause they're smart, they get cats because they're easy, basically take care of themselves, aren't intolerably needy & are generally chill to have around.

I love dogs too but they're intelligence doesn't make up for how annoying they can be. Having a kid is enough work, I don't need a dog too, a kid gets smarter all the time whereas a dog, while able to learn new tricks, doesn't ever get that smart.

I saw a dog with a long stick in it's mouth (clean your dirty minds), and he was trying to walk between two trees. He kept getting stuck because of the stick, and tried to walk through about 4 times. He's not one of the smarter ones...

I long ago searched my feelings and felt that it was true---dogs are smarter, or at least more active.

Cats have some kind of weird perpetual dreaming brain, though don't they?

They can be trained to do that, whereas cats cannot, therefore dogs are smarter than cats. :smug:

Link to video.

I just wish I trained my cats to do that! It would be so much easier.

Parrots on the other had are amazingly smart. I really want an african grey. I have a sun conure but there's no comparison.

I think the list of most intelligent life on earth is: human, parrot, chimp, dolphin, octopus. Octopus are surprisingly intelligent.

Yeah, that's a good list of intelligent species. You can throw in 'similar species'. Ravens, bonobos, cuttlefish. But don't forget pigs & elephants!

I think that's true. Dogs are smarter and generally more active. This of course leads to the dog doing something stupid while the cat looks on. Cats aren't as active, so don't do as many dumb things. This is in general of course, some breeds of dog are extremely dumb (terriers come to mind).

Cat's sleep a lot and they often seem to sit in one spot staring for an hour or so. Maybe the perpetually dreaming brain is right. My cat will stare out the window for an hour and I draw the obvious conclusion, to me. I open the door. Cat looks, goes on staring out the window.

I have one of each. The ability to live together depends on the dog's nature. My dog is huge compared to the cat, but they get along.
